bad steering
have lost steering stability three times. almost all front steering and suspension parts have been changed to no avail. seems liee dodge should spend a little more time on the devolipment of the steering for their diesel trucks
Fun at first..
The truck was great for the first 6 years. I had one minor air conditioning repair at around the 2nd year. Then everything started falling apart. The AC began spewing out stinky liquid so the heater core had to be replaced, then the car wouldn't shift out of 2nd without manipulating the gas pedal so the solenoids in the transmission had to be replaced. I pull a 8000lb horse trailer a dozen times a year and when the truck is behaving, she pulls great. I don't think she liked being a commute vehicle.. sitting in bay area traffic I'm sure contributed to the wear and tear. The next truck I get I'm buying will definitely be a 4x4!! I got her stuck more than once.

None Better
Bought the truck used with 54,000 miles on it. Use it to pull a 16,000 pound fifth wheel from Texas to California and back several times. Use it in my construction business. Previously owned a new 96, and 98 before buying this one and this is by far my favorite. If you buy a Dodge truck you will replace the front brake pads every 35,000 or less, but that is a small price to pay for this kind of quality. My V-10 has more power and torque than the cummins turbo diesel and the two speed torque converter in this truck always keeps you in the perfect power range. The automatic transmission went out on the trip back from DC while pulling a larger trencher dozer @ 155,000 miles. Great truck!
Avoid This Truck
Transmision has been rebuilt 6 times and replaced once. Still having transmision problems. Not getting any satisfaction with the dodge dealer representative.
2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab V10 Stick
I cannot beleive the smoothness and unlimited power this engine produces. It cannot be beat for pulling a fifth wheel (5500 LBS>). Empty on the highway at 72 MPH I can get 15.2 MPG. Pulling the trailer about 8.5.
