Mileage lousy
I am incredibly disappointed at the lousy gas mileage this car gets. I bought it because it was the only car in its class that advertised 26 mpg and many of the reviews raved about the great gas mileage. I don't know where these people live, but I'm getting close to 20mph. I know I'm using the air, but still, I was better off with my larger more powerful Intrepid.
Surprised at Reliability Two Years Later
I bought my '07 Caliber two years ago, and it had 36,900 miles on it. It was a rental and the warranty expired at that point. I've never had a warranty on it, and I have put 60,000 miles on it, so it's up to about 97,000 miles, and I haven't put more than a fuel pump (which strangely went at 50,000 miles after a fuel system flush--I'm still skeptical about that although everyone says it couldn't be connected). That repair was $500ish. I am preventative and get everything flushed and checked regularly, and I haven't needed any major repairs done. I might have put $1,500 in repairs since I've owned it--tops. I always figure if I get 110,000 or 120,000 miles out of a car it did its job.
3 Years of Misery, Ready for trade in
Things wrong since 06/22/07 to 9/7/10. 1. Four sets of tires (awd is eating them) 2. Sunroof replaced (still having closing issues) 3. Rims replaced (clear coat peeled off, second set too) 4. Both front lower ball joints replaced. 5. Front speakers replaced. 6. Passenger side door doesn't unlock when cold 7. The emission light is on now, car bucks 8. My left headlight blew out. Replaced and it blew out again. The horn won't honk when you lock it anymore and the doors won't auto lock at 30 now either. I now have to take this car to the dealer and pay out my rear to fix this with my warranty now over. Fix it then get rid of it. I always kept up-to date tune ups too :( DON'T BUY THIS CAR!
Looks good, but loads of trouble
This little car has been trouble from the start. We have taken this to the dealer every year for the past 3 years in order to get it to pass emissions. Then just this past weekend the Transmission went out. The warranty is 3 yrs and 36 thou miles. This will cost us $4500 since the CVT transmission cannot be rebuilt. It may look good on the outside and have several good features, but is a load of crap. here are just a few of the things we've done to it, starting about a year after we bought it. Brakes (once a year), Tie rods (once), Emissions sensors (every year), lights (once). I would not buy one of these cars or any Dodge product ever again.
Problems with the speakers.
I have had problems with the speakers and radio in this car and had it in twice for the same problem. When the weather is below freezing, the speakers don't work, sometimes the radio won't work. By the time I was able to bring it in, radio was working so mechanics couldn't find a problem and fix it. Two separate times. Also check engine light on- needed a software upgrade. Other than these annoying problems, I like the car.
