Needed HD truck to haul travel trailer
I have about 1100 miles on an LTZ crew cab with the Duramax package. Bought it to pull my 6800# travel trailer. Tows wonderfully. Diesel is the right powertrain for towing. Can cruise at highway speed so I don't become a rolling road block. Around town the ride reminds you that this is a heavy duty truck but no complaints as it is very comfortable on highway and when towing. Having enough truck makes trips enjoyable not a 'white knuckle' experience. The LTZ interior is comfortable for my wife and I, both retirement age. This is the right truck for our intended purpose. Tows well, runs with traffic on the highway, and comfortable. Just what we needed. Mileage drops from 17 around town to 10.5 when towing. Wish DEF tank fill was easier to access and cheapy DEF refill spouts didn't leak. Hate spills/dribbles in new engine bay.

I test drove this truck when I was considering trading up from my 2015 which is currently working very well for me. It was basically the same truck except w/o nav. which I was told is no longer offered. You can use nav linked from your smart phone. Personally, I would rather have a dedicated unit in my truck. I decided to not trade as the numbers on a deal were to far apart.

Disappointed
Engine is fine lots of power and torque. Transmission is shifting hard sometimes between third and fourth gear. Has been to two different dealerships to be checked. Last one stated GM is aware of the problem but doesn’t have a fix yet! Very disappointed in the truck at the 21,000 mile mark. Disappointed in General Motors Customer Support, No Support. Traded the truck for the competitor's models in a 3/4 ton truck.

Pretty much a lemon
Is running well but has spent 30 days with its other friends getting repaired. 5 tires, 1 CV and a new rear axle to replace the one that was coming apart. New Seat belts and cooling system redone as well as random electrical items not starting when truck starts.

Injector issue
I would not buy or recommend the duramax, due to Chevy known injector problem and the dealer's handling of the problem. The dealer has had the truck for 2 weeks and there is no end in sight. The dealer doesn't even seem to have the information about this problem that is available on the internet. No loaner. This is a work truck and not working. I will replace this truck as soon as possible. Not reliable. 7000 miles.
Needs air vents in back!
We own a 2005 hd2500 diesel four door that truck has vents in the back for back seat passengers. The new 2018 2500hd diesel high country that we purchased doesn’t have the vents that’s my only complaint

Great family tow vehicle
6.6 liter Duramax, tows great up over passes, the exhaust brake is amazing. But only 3" of "tow mirror" extension is less than needed, previous trucks of both other American brands extended further. Chevy can't even see down the sides of my trailer, unless trailer camera system is installed. Update. The wireless charging system on the center console is out of date and no longer works on newer phones. There isn't an upgrade to be found yet.

Would Not Do it Again
NOTE: There was no option on the Edmunds website to specify the 6.6L diesel for review. Bought the 2018 Silverado 2500HD LTZ Z71 with the Duramax/Allison combo in November 2018. It sits in my garage while I drive my 2000 Nissan. The one thing I'll say positive about it is the low-end torque on this thing is unmatched. That is the only good side. Beyond that, in my own opinion, everything is over-engineered and way overly complicated. The designs are poorly thought out and remind me of my early engineering classes in which we were challenged to see just how far we could take a design idea. In engineering school you learn the old adage that "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". First example is Chevy's HVAC controls. Look...you don't need to make everything in the world automatic. The computer chips cant tell when so many different conditions exist so they seem to fight each other to figure out what needs to happen. So, when it's 70 degrees outside and I have the thermostat on 71, it doesn't need to blow 100-degree air on me for several minutes struggling to get the temp to 71. Take a tip from foreign manufacturers...red means hot...blue means cold...select a point and go with it...make minor changes to suit your comfort. Perhaps its a minor point for some, but for $60k - $70k, I don't feel like I should get blasted out of the cab and have to keep trying to overcompensate with the HVAC controls to prevent it. In addition, because Chevy decided not to put HVAC controls and/or vents in the back seat of the crew cab, they apparently compensated by making the lowest setting on the blower motor way too high. If you like a soft breeze coming from your AC you can forget that. Next we have the the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank fill. The 2500HD stands fairly tall, which looks cool. But, when you go to add DEF, the fill nozzle is all the way at the back of the engine compartment making it impossible to fill without spilling 36% urea all over the engine, which has to be rinsed off. I purchased a special funnel recommended by the manufacturer of Blue DEF, but it's still difficult to pour a 2.5 gallon jug of DEF into that little nozzle at that angle. Yes, I'll survive, but for this kind of money, one shouldn't have to deal with that kind of nonsense. The on/off button on the head unit isn't really a power button...it's a mute button. You have to go through several steps when your phone is connected via Bluetooth to prevent songs continuing to play in the background. Not a life or death situation, obviously, but why? What the heck? Just one more annoying little design flaw that makes you shake your head. "I spent $60k+ for THIS?" The most negative feature for me is OnStar. I was in a hurry when I bought the truck due to the death of my father. Long story...but I needed a truck that day. I didn't realize I had signed the OnStar agreement and somehow they got my email address through that process. About a month after the purchase I received an email with my "OnStar Smart Driver Report". After a moment of self-admiration of being in the top 10% of Oklahoma drivers (by whatever measure OnStar applies), I started to get that creepy feeling. They had how many hard stops I had performed, my acceleration performance, how many miles I had driven, etc. I really did not realize that I was providing this data to OnStar who was apparently all to happy to provide the data to insurance companies so that I could qualify for a discount. Yet one more Facebook-type invasion of my privacy. I had to spend hours on the phone to finally get the OnStar radio turned off. Not sure if it's really off or not. They stated on the phone that there was no further communication between my vehicle and OnStar, but I got the feeling that there is still some data that they're able to retrieve. I was told that the only way to ensure that no data is transmitted from a vehicle that I purchased was to have the actual OnStar equipment removed, and that had to be done by a dealer. Initial estimate: $1,500. I was also told that I can order a vehicle without Onstar included as standard equipment. Finally, and not quite as annoyingly, whoever I gave my email address to when I purchased this vehicle, shared it with EVERYBODY. I cant tell you how many survey emails I've received. "Tell us how you like your new Silverado!" Over and over again. Then, the amount of snail-mail in my mailbox is incredible. I could have saved $$ on the truck if they gave me the value of all of the mailings I've received from Chevy and from the dealership; and I'm not exaggerating. They've flooded my email box and my snail mail box. So there you have it. I'm not sure that Ford or Dodge will be much better. I'm waiting for Toyota to come out with a 3/4 ton diesel. So far, after owning Chevy and Dodge, and a couple of friends with Fords, the Toyota Tundra (2012 Crewmax) has been, by far, the best truck Ive ever owned or ridden in. I very much dislike this Chevy.

Nice truck but had problems already !!!
I like the truck, the price is too high, had it for three weeks with 900 miles on it , had to take it to the Dealership service department and get the thing repaired because check Stabilization, Trailer, Parking sensor, and other problems popped up while I was driving. Not to happy. Had to spend a day at the dealership while they work on it. Lost confidence on the vehicle. Stay tuned for the results.

Trailer trash
The chain hook up is ridiculous. Engineers must drive Honda civics and have never towed anything but ignorance. Chains won't hook on. I am forcing my dealer to fix it and I don't care what they say about warranty violation. Stupid is as stupid does. Like everything about the truck. Had a ford for 2 months, what a piece of crap! Ergonomics are terrible. Fuel mileage was awful! The Cevy is sooo wet, very impressive.

Blown transmission in under 518 miles
I bought my truck for hauling a horse safely to get from point A to point B, And was sadly mistaken wish I had my old reliable truck back and then you can keep the 2018 heavy duty made for Trailer hauling...Plus roadside assistance was absolutely no help

Safety chains won’t attach to trailer receiver hit
Since about 2015 when the receiver on the Chevrolet/ GMC 2500 and 3500 HDs was changed basically all existing trailer safety chains will not attach to the hitch. Called Chevrolet Customer service and they state that they are aware of the issue but flat out refuse to help the customer with a solution. Their point is that the hitch “performs as designed”. You will have to come up with some kind of a hack to attach the chains and it you get stopped for an inspection will get cited for a non DOT chain attachment. Two years later and as I said in the first review Chevrolet will do absolutely nothing to rectify the safety chain problem and keep putting the on new models KNOWING they won’t accept safety chain hooks. So now after people asking for a gas engine with more power the come up with a 6.6 with just over 400 hp that is less that both Ford and Ram. They are also stopping production of the Impala and other cars. GM, in my opinion is on the way out. They aren’t keeping up with the competition and the Ford 3.5 V6 is eating their lunch and they have no answer for it. It has up to 375 HP and the 5.3 GM V8 only has 355. They spend all their efforts on the Corvette and Camaro. You can’t get a 6.2 unless you pay for a very expensive trim package putting the 6.2 out of a lot of people’s reach financially but the powers that be at GM are clueless. Ram sales passed Chevrolet this year.

Good all-around vehicle
Chevy 2500 HD exceeds expectations. Interior controls (Cruise control, A/C, Wipers, etc.) are easy to figure out. Comfortable rear seat (Crew Cab).

Test Drove the diesel but didn’t buy
The 2500 Crew cab is spacious. I like the parking sensor feature for the front and rear of the truck. Visibility was not great due to me being short and the big wide post between the windshield and driver door. When pulling out onto the main highway there was hesitation , no quick get up and go. I thought this would be a potential safety hazard for me in the future, and I was willing to settle if that is how all diesels performed. I’ve heard good things about the Ram 2500 and after test driving that, there was no decision to be made it was automatically selecting the Ram due to its responsiveness. Plus the options on it were more attractive and modern than the GM product.

Still Love this truck.
40,000 miles. 1 minor annoyance. Had a musty odor come from Hvac. Purchased a foam cleaner off of Amazon. Had to apply it a few times. Has been pretty good for about 9 months. 1 big annoyance. Tailgate dampener keeps breaking. Had it replace at least 3 times at dealer. Other than that. This is one great truck.

Great truck when bought used!
Bought a used 2018 Chevy Silverado LT Crew cab 4x4 with 60,000 miles on it. Paid $25,000 under the Original sticker and the previous owner was an older gentleman who took great care of it but put a lot of highway miles towing a light trailer. I have had it for about a year and I couldn’t be happier, my only complaints are the turning radius (but what do you expect from a HD truck) and the lack of air vents for the back seat (which they have now in newer models). I don’t think I would ever buy one new...$50,000 to 60,000 plus! Currently have close to 100,000 miles and no issues (2023).

Bent rim, bad tires, missing accessories
What was advertised was not what came with the truck. Dealership had supposedly checked the oil, tires, and batteries. Thought it just needed a balance, ended up with bent rim and out of round tires. They reimbursed me for the rim, but still had to fork out 2k for tires. Still waiting on headsets that was suppose to be with the entertainment system, supposedly they have shipped me some. No under the seat storage as described.

Love my 2017 High Country Duramax
Just made a trip to Iowa with a Lance slide in truck camper (approximate 4000 lbs) in my 2017 High Country 2500 duramax. Overall mileage 14 mpg. Has the best 32.7 mpg on the dash. Hauled logs with it and grossed 32740 lbs.

Ordered my 2018 Silverado 2500 Z71 exactly to my liking. It hasn't let me down in 5 years. No dash lights. Only 1 thing needed to be fixed under warranty- a light went out in one of the radio buttons. My daughters love my truck and I regularly get compliments on it.

I love my truck
Looked for a year before I found what I wanted, a two door 8ft bed work truck. I have no use for what I call 4 door sedans missing their trunk lid. If I just needed a tow vehicle I'd probably think differently, but I wanted something where I could haul 4X8 sheet goods and close the tailgate. I've talked to other PU owners who have the 4 door versions and they hate them.

great for towing - no complaints
For those that have issues with safety chains and factory hitch, get some heavy duty carabiners to fit the hitch which will solve that matter of attaching the chains. My pickup tows my 7000# travel trailer just fine uphill and downhill. I added a WD hitch with sway control bars which really makes the towing pleasant. Went thru Canada to Montana, Dakotas and back last summer and no complaints. Glad to see standard factory tow mirrors for 2020 2500HD GM pickups. My replacement tow mirror purchase and programming turn signal option that wasn't there originally was $$$$. My fault for not picking the one off the lot with bigger tow mirrors originally. Tow 3 1/2 months out of the year so not a full time RV'r and no need to upgrade for the 10k upcharge for the diesel with all its DEF requirements. Not my choice for my situation, may be yours and nothing wrong with that. I put 38,000 miles since purchased new in May 2018. Only design issue I see is with the factory remote start of 10 min. each for 2 times maximum with my chevy app without restart with key and running thru the gears on transmission to reset for another 2 time cycle. May go with aftermarket to address that matter. Haven't seen the dealer service bays since the 2 free oil changes/rotations and 1 rear defroster/slider window recall. No reason to, it just works as designed!
