Still going strong at 218k miles!
I dearly love Cavaliers. This is the second one our family has had. I bought it in 2009 for $4000. I love stick shifts and this was the second selling fetcher. When driving a good speed I can get about 34mpg mostly highway miles. With city driving I get about 30mpg. I drive a good bit every day for a good job. This car is extremely dependable. I have had very little repairs. I have replaced the alternator which I have had to replace in every car I have had. When the alternator went out mom was driving it on a road that that was farm land for miles at about 11pm at night. Things started to shut off and she was able to limp into town and coast into a parking spot. We still talk about that night. It got her to a safe place to stop. Also recently some kind of plate springs behind the clutch or transmission broke and I had to get that replace. They also replaced the clutch. It drives even better now. As for other issues there are not many. i have a oxygen sensor that needs to be replaced and the spring that roles the seat belt doesn't work that great. I have a coupe of cracks on the dash at the window that make a rattling noise some times. the cruise control works great but some times cuts out if I turn on the blinker. I also want to replace my radio. The radio area will let me put a big one in its spot. The car drives very well, good shifting and acceleration. My commute is about 40-50 min one way. I love the sun roof. The trunk is a great size and the back seat folds down if I need more room. Car looks sporty. I will probable look into a newer model the next time I need a new car. Too bad they didn't continue this line.

Ok car
Purchased new in 2002. Great economy. Never failed in any way. Only work other than oil changes were brakes and tires. Poorly designed rear seat. Had to keep kids in booster seats due to the dip in the back seats. Also seats were made of cinder blocks. Loved the car till it was totaled in a 25-35 mph accident. Barely escaped severe injury.

cavalier is a nightmare
carv -a-lier horribly built car..no power.no quality.if u have it get rid of it before the warranty runs out..if it lasts that long.everything breaks.transmission rattles (charactaristic, not a defect)..rides like @#%$, For performance leave car at the dealer for warranty services
Sad, It's a Joke
Had a 91 Olds Cutlass Calais to 2K Cavalier. I almost/should have bought a Honda Civic. Wife has a 2K Odyssey. Cavalier has 33,000 miles. Ive heard noises from the front struts, a recall on the electrical system, rear defogger takes 3 times longer then Calais. I have a 5 speed. When hot out-side with A/C on under load, Cavalier doesnt have an A/C compressor cut-off, causes sitting duck at 25-35 MPH in 2nd gear. Dealer says, its designed that way". Stereo, 91 Calais had much better factory speakers. I went from the perfect running car to a joke. Dads Cavalier is punishment if you have a 11 year-old daughter that gets into trouble, who doesnt want her friends to see her in this car.
Think again b4 buying!
Nothing but problem with my 02 Cavalier. Have had 15 rental cars in under a year on this car. Lordstown (Cavalier / Sunfire final assembly plant) needs to produce a quality vehicle! Numerous engine and wiring problems. Probably will not buy GM again.
