Beautiful Machine
The car is obviously very attractive. The interior creates a cacoon around whoever is in the cockpit. The 200 hp power plant under the hood of the base model is quite a peppy engine. It does not compare to the V8 ,but if your looking for a V6... this is it! I have a flowmaster 80 series exhaust on my Camaro with two stainless steel flat tips like the Z 28, and it looks very nice. Upon start-up it sounds GREAT!!!, not as good during acceleration, but if you want to turn some heads when you turn the key, this will do the trick. Overall an excellent car, and a great buy. Take care of it, and it will last you a lifetime!!!
Awesome
Love this car, excellent take off power, excellent mid range and top end acceleration. Monsoon sound system is awesome. This car brightens any day of mine when I can pull it out of the garage. Only have 20,000 miles on it so far, and have loved every one of them.

Best bang for your buck
I love this car! If you are looking for high performance at a relatively inexpensive cost, this is (or was) your best option. 305hp (before modification), excellent brakes, very good fuel economy for the size of the engine, and above all...it's a fun car to drive. I'm very sad that it is gone because the Mustang GT (not the $35k-$40k Cobra models) is now the only V8, RWD car left in the $25k-$30k price range, it it doesn't even come close to the performance of the Z28 or Trans Am.
Great Lemon
I ordered this car new, and it is my fourth Camaro. It's performance is great, and the fuel economy is surprising. The handling is outstanding. Unfortunately, the differential has been a constant source of trouble. It has been completely rebuilt by dealers three times. It rattles horribly under neutral load and whines when under slight power on turns. Chevrolet has admitted the rear end clunking is common, and says it is normal. Routine rebuilds would not seem to be normal. Now that the warranty is up, Chevrolet has lost interest in this.
Proud city girl with her redneck ride
I started out leasing Baby and loved her so much I decided to buy her after 3 years. She's quick to react due to her tight steering. She's a beauty to look at, but her power is deceiving. She's relatively slow off the line and pick up is delayed when you really need the old drag racing power that she's remembered for. T-tops are fun, but can be cumbersome to manage and !!HOT!! to touch when she's been in the sun. She's a unique exterior design, you don't find that type of identity with the Accords, Civics, Camrys and Corollas. When she comes barreling down the road everyone knows her name.
Move over, fast lane slugs
This is a real nice car, excellent convertible top functionality (though it leaks in automatic car washes), no lack of power, handles quite well, adequate mileage out of stock goodyear tires, large doors are a pain in tight parking spots, six speed can be a bear in stop and go traffic, leather seats could be better bolstered, gets a lot of positive commewnts by passers-by.
2000 Z28 Hatchback
This car is tight. When going down a bumpy road it remains quiet. Steering is tight also. The power steering is firmer than expected. Regardless of the speed firm accurate steering is always available. Power is as expected. Except for the clunking of metal parts when shifting from reverse to forward drive. No fluid leakage. Out on the freeway the car is beautiful. I was crusing at 80mph then rolled it on to 135mph. Nothing changed. Not the steering. Not the sound. Not the stability. It got there quick also. I think it will do 155mph with no problems. Seating is bad. I replaced the drivers seat with one I had in a 96 Chevy Caprice cop car. Now it is OK.
THIS CAR IS AWESOME!
I bought this car used with 19,000 miles in late september 2002 from bill heard chevrolet.Since then it has been my primary mode of transportation,as well as joy rides. This car will SCREAM.I changed the cd player to c Pioneer Premier 220 watt & put a 1600 watt amp with thwo audiobahn 10 inch subs in there & it sounds incredible.Gas mileage is around 18-20 if driven conservative.Dies off if driven like every now & then a car this powerful requires. Expect to be watched by cops and chased by racer boy teens.
Green Ride
The car has been much more dependable then my Mercury Cougar, although the alternator went out in the beginning. It drives very sloppy around curves but it gets decent gas mileage and it's peppy
Always Something
I have had my car for a couple years now. And i am overall unimpressed. Over the course of time i have had maybe 1 week worth of reliable trouble free cruising. I am 60K now, and every accessory i own on this car has given me trouble. Even the window washer projector is broke. Granted, Mechanically the engine is sound, except for the lousy brakes. But rewiring the entire interior because of some lame-broke loser thinks he should get paid more money for his job and that i should feel the wrath of his stupidity is aggrivating (can u tell?). My milage is close to 10mpg from its original 24, and i cant fix it. The V8 gets better milage. Never domestic again!
Great exterior, Crap interior..
Very fun to drive, finally i can race cars on the road and actually win :). Wish i could afford insurance on a Z or an SS.. but with a few mods on my 3800 Series 2,and some exterior mods, I think i can turn her into an SS. But first i have to basically replace everything on the drivers side door!!!!
Excellent Automobile
I feel this is a great car. Then only issue now is the trade in/resale value since the stop of production.
Totally Amazing Car... unbeatable
Don't buy anything but domestic, and Chevy if you can. On top of just the pure speed and acceleration of the car, it still gets great gas mileage and is built tougher then any other coupe on the road. Its exterior is beautiful, interior is functional and stylish... it is just a great car.
Best car I've ever owned!
Out of the many car cars I have owned in almost 40 years (!), this is the only car I have owned that has been mechanically trouble-free. Only regular oil changes - and tires/brakes @ 55k - it's been a blessing to own. I bought it brand-new and am now pushing 100,000 miles.
Great SS
What a fun car. Plenty of power. What a blast to put the top down. I love my convert and found out it's 1 of 48 artic white 6 speed SS converts built in 2000.
best under 30K
this is by far the best sports car outhtere for under 30k. it has amazing acceleration even with an auto. the interior feels a little cheap and with the t-tops they so tend to rattle a little, but thats nothing i can't get live with considering the car outstanding performance.
Great car
I have a white Z28 with t-tops and it is a very fun car. Mine is used for daily driving mostly. 300+ hp is very hard to resist as far as playin with it while driving in it. With my exhaust and headers I tend to be bothered by the police for noise pollution but no tickets though
Very fast !!
I love this modern muscle car. It's great on gas, it looks good, and it handles like a dream. Not one trip to the dealer in the last 18,000 miles. What's not to like?
love it
so easy to make so fast
Love It But Will It Start?
I went from a '90 Vette to the V6 coupe with t-tops, power everything. I didn't choose the dual exhaust option with tighter steering for only a couple hundred, I recommed that. The car has not started 5 times in 3 years, 2 new batteries, new neg terminal(s), still has problems. But when it works it is nice.
Best car I've ever had......
Too bad they had to discontinue making them. These are real head turners - everyone watches it go by.
Rock solid
This car is very powerful, and after almost three years is 100% reliable without a single problem or glitch. Also, I love the disdain heaped on the Camaro by automotive mags.. it just adds to the "in your face" of driving a huge V8 in a time of 1.8L econo-boxes.
Awesome, but not for the faint of heart
Great car, awesome performance for the engine. If you can handle the V8 it's good in wet weather. If not, don't dog it. I recommend getting drilled slotted rotors, and ceramic brakes. I put almost 90,000 miles on them, and I do hot rod my car. Gas mileage is good, interior is not a wow factor, but it's nice. Has a lot of potential for mods, cosmetic, and perfomance If you're looking for a fast fun sharp car, this is the car to drive.
Corvette guys take on the camaro
Honestly I'm a corvette owner, own a beautiful 1988 and recently owned a 2004 zo6. My father owned several corvettes and camaro's. Huge Chevrolet fans. This Camaro is much more beautiful than the new models. For some reason I have a love for it. It's fun to drive and better with fuel mileage. My corvette gets between 6-8 MPG, this Camaro is much better and is almost a corvette, i mean that in a special way. I feel that the car is almost similar, although there's major differences and pros and cons. If you are looking for a sport's car I'd recommend this year model's. There aren't many on the roads so there's a rare factor, great price and I've seen they hold their value. I'd be interested in a 2000 camaro with low miles. I'm impressed with the 2000 camaro.

My 8 year review!
My 2000 Camaro Convertible (V6) was the second car that I've ever owned and the first car that really got me interested in cars. Although my interest in cars grew immensely, my wallet dwindled. In hindsight, I never should have purchased the car. As soon as the deal was done, I took it to get a PPI (ironic, huh?) just to find out it was a disaster of electrical issues and neglected maintenance covered up by a shiny paint job. Go figure! Like any other eager 16 year old, I decided to keep the car and tackle the issues myself. Over the last eight years, I've put over $15,000 of work into my "teenage eagerness". I know, I know...should of left it. But I was young and dumb. In the time that I've had it, I've replaced the head gaskets, the entire rear end, transmission, radiator, and the convertible top (insurance paid for this one). Outside of regular maintenance (water pump, alternator, fuel pump, etc.), the car has not aged well. 90's GM paint is known to fade and the interior dash has cracked. All in all, I believe my negative experience was completely reliant on the fact that I purchased this car without a PPI in the first place. As of today, I don't drive the car much. I've got big plans for a complete build but only time will tell. One thing I know for sure is that I am never selling this car!

2000 Camaro SS convertible
200K + and did the clutch master and slave and replaced the top. Looks great and is as fun to drive as it was 20 years ago when I bought it. Bullet proof reliability but it never sees snow or salt as put away in the winter.

So far, So good?????
I own a 2000 coupe and love it. Unfortunately, I've managed to put 43,000 miles on it in just 18 months. I've already expired out of the warranty and am crossing my fingers. So far no problems with the car. My one dissappointment is the $ value 18 months into my purchase. If only pure American Muscle kept its appreciation I'd be all over a 2002!
Fun Car
I had the z28 auto, i got the car with 40000 miles on it, really fast car just stock, stereo in it was really good, car ran great up to around 50000 with no problems, then i started to mod it, cam headers, touque converter, and on and on, then it started to have problems, trans went on me soon after, the rear gears, bad break vibrations, the after about 10000 the brand new trans started going, and coolant started boiling after normal every day driving so i sold it, great cars until you mess with them then they mess with you back
GREAT CHOICE
I WANTED A GREAT SPORTS CAR AND CAME ACROSS THIS ONE. NO PROBLEMS, FUN TO DRIVE, COUNLDN'T GET BETTER FOR YOUR MONEY. MINE HAS 57000 THOUSAND MILES AND STILL GOING STRONG. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS.
My last V8
I purchased this car from the dealer using my mother-in-law's employee discount. I ordered it in September, 1999 and it was delivered on Jan 1, 2000. The brakes warped right away and Chevy resurfaced them no charge - more than once. Several months ago I decided to keep the car and installed Baer Eradispeed disks front and rear with Hawk pads and a new set of Goodyear F1 GS D3s and the car is now perfected. It goes like stink and stops exceedingly well. Now that gas is $3/Ga I think this will be my last V8, but it has been fun. Used ones are cheap now and mine has been bulletproof. I would recommend one to anyone who wants something like this.
Fun Car, but needs improvement
I had this car for about a year, and what a blast. This car was scary fast. However, when it came to twisty roads, my old '89 Mustang handled better than this beast. The car is too heavy and has too much body roll to handle well. As a daily driver, I can't recommend this car. The t-tops started leaking at 10,000 miles, and leaked even after the dealer replaced them. The interior rattles started right away, and got progressively louder and more numerous. Everything in the interior like it will snap off. I sold it before the whole thing fell apart when the warranty ran out. Seems like GM still believes in "planned obsolescence."
