Edmunds U-Drags! BMW M3 CS vs. Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
It's EV vs. ICE, and there can be only one winner
The BMW M3 has defined the sport sedan for generations. Not just in the last few years or once in a while in its nearly 40-year history, but consistently since it was first launched in 1896. The CS version we have here is the sharpest (and greenest) M3 you can currently buy, and it is a scintillating performance machine. Its twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine makes 543 horsepower (even though BMW frequently underrates the engines in its M cars) and has all-wheel-drive traction to help it explode off the line. It's also got even sharper handling than the standard M3, if you could really call that car standard.
Going up against the BMW is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, a competitor that could not be more different. Its all-wheel-drive system is powered by two electric motors that combine to make a total of 641 horsepower when the N Grin Boost mode is engaged. That's a significant advantage over the BMW, but this EV crossover weighs 4,854 pounds compared to the M3's curb weight of 3,890 pounds. While the Bimmer isn't exactly a featherweight, nearly 1,000 pounds less to lug around could be the difference maker here. So it's might versus light, and there's only one way to find out who wins in the end. Check out the video below to see how it all shakes out.
