Result of my shopping
Great breaking. Outstanding internal material quality. Nice strong engine, but it doesn't live up to Mitsu 3000GT Turbo I once had. Very well designed trunk (lotsa space). Smooth yet tight ride after 55K. It runs better than my dad's brand-new Volvo. Had to replace tiptronik electro plate for $800. Wish I didn't have to deal with a dealer (waiting list was 3 weeks). Chose the car over BMW, Acura, Infin, and Lexus GS300 (came closest but not good enough).
Great car but poor reliability for price
In addition to 3 gas-guage, a front bumper and some other recall, leaking windshield washer, and a broken mirror switch all under warranty, the Check Engine light came on at 51,000 miles. Surprise: both catalytic converters are shot (covered), and the tranny and main rear seals are leaking (not covered, $1300). My one concern before buying an Audi was their poor reputation for build quality, which improved in the 1990s so I took a chance on the long-term mechanical reliability. I love driving this car but for the price it is not nearly reliable enough and we've only had it for 3 1/2 years.

Worst car I've ever owned
Constant small problems such as leaks, windows getting stuck over and over again. Rides like a tank. No pickup, very sluggish. Stereo is 3rd rate. I thought I was buying a higher end car, the only thing I got was a headache. NEVER, NEVER again will I buy an Audi.
RIDICULOUS ride
I've owned this car for almost a year now, and I drive it every day. I STILL get excited every time I drive it. The handling is incredible - I take 35 mph turns at 70 mph with ease. The 6-spd manual is a MUST- HAVE. I got this car for the value, options, and just because I love Audis. It's no exotic car like a Ferrari, but it STILL draws the attention anywhere I drive it.
Best Car in this Price range
I have looked at a few cars before buying the A6. Heres how they compare: Acura TL is nice for its class. It is not a luxury car. It feels like an Accord. Compared to the A6, its interior looks and feels cheap. More road noise. No rear head rest (dangerous in a rear end collision). Lexus GS300 is a bit smoother and a bit quieter but less powerful, loose steering feel, seats do not fold down, smaller trunk. BMW 528 has better exterior styling and is more sporty but less powerful, more road and engine noise, less luxurious interior. Mercedes E320 costs a lot more and I don't think it is worth the money. BTW, A6 2.8 doesnt have enough power.
