Not What I Expected
I had high expectations for my Audi A4, and they have been dashed to pieces. I have had the same problem many others have had with engine coils (car broke down completely 3 times this year alone!) My dealership covered the repairs, but the hassle factor was extremely high. I also had to replace door speakers and had a problem with my driver's side airbag. My check engine light is on right now and as soon as I get it back from the dealership I am trading this car in. My mother also has an Audi A4 that she has had much worse problems with (replaced the entire engine twice along with the transmission!) My "Audi Experience" has not been a good one!
Audi makes great cars
My 2001 Audi A4 1.8T quattro Sedan handles well and is easy to maintain. I only wish there was a little more power with the AWD system. I have no regrets buying this car!

2001 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo: My Supercar
This is the best looking Audi to come out of Ingolstadt. I still have a great looking and very reliable '85 Audi Coupe GT and so I decided on getting another Audi with the latest technology. The Xenon HID headlights are amazing in how well they light up the road ahead as well as to the sides. I get outstanding mileage on the highway (33mpg) yet the motor feels very strong and tight. The seats could offer a bit more thigh support and aren't as plush as in my old Audi but it's still a comfortable ride. The only problem I experienced was the driver's airbag warning light repeatedly coming on despite dealer resets. The fix was a new airbag installed for free .
28 mpg in town
I love my A4, it handles great and have had no problems. I run 87 octane and regularly get the oil changed (synthetic) I get about 28 mpg in town. Best car I've ever owned.
50k Summary
Well, it's 50k later and this car is still so fun to drive. (I highly recommend the sport package for improved handling and low-to-the-ground stance.) With routine oil changes and TLC, she has held up remarkably well. The engineering is impressive and the styling classic. Some have said reliability is an issue, but that's not what this car is about. Performance, stlying, and design inside and out - that's Audi.
Near to Automotive Perfection
I have driven my A4 for nearly a year. I am able to have excellent acceleration, combined with mid-to-high thirties mpg on road trips using cruise control. I feel that I am getting the best of both worlds. The car handles very nicely with the optional sport suspension, and is still comfortable for a family with two children under the age of six. Cargo space is surprisingly good.
Love my Audi!
I have had my A4 for six years, and I still love it to this day. It is so fun to drive due to both handling and the turbo gives it an extra boost. The Quattro is a dream to drive in the snow, out performing many SUVs. The gas mileage is great! My only problems were back in 2004-05 when I had to replace the rear wheel bearings and the tie rods. Currently, when my car sits in the heat, the car beeps as if the driver side door is open, when in fact it is shut. Also, the speakers are busted. If my family wasn't growing, I'd definitely buy another A4.
Never again
I bought this car when it was 3 year old and had 51000 miles on it. After 6 months it started to break: ABS module, power window mechanism in 3 doors, leaking oil in engine (repair costs over $1000) oxygen sensor (another $1200, big problem to find right sensor), rear tail light, glovebox shaking all the time, even the horn didn't work, engine light was on all the time. Car is very nice, handling and performance is great, but buy it on your own risk.
Keeps breaking every two months
This is my first car. When I bought it I was amazed with this it, very fast, fun to drive and very reliable. I bought it with 45k miles on it. Everything was great until the computer started giving me those annoying messages "SERVICE REQUIRED". Well, I decided to take the car to the dealership every time I got it and so far, I have paid in service and repairs around $2500 in two years! The lower lights have burned three times now, the left suspension arm broke, the battery died, the flow meter died, the sparks needed to be changed, the center console leds are broken, the horn broke and now, I have a water leak in the passenger footwell (this is caused by an aircon broken tube).
Best Car I've Ever Owned
My previous car was a Mercedes, and I've owned about twenty other cars in my lifetime, and this is the best , so far. I'm a designer, and love the clean design. With the Quattro AWD system, the car corners like it is on rails -- wet or dry. But the quality of materials and workmanship is what really sets this car apart from others -- and it was a lot less expensive than my Mercedes. I will buy another Audi.
A4 #2 and I love it!
I had a 1996 manual A4 Quattro, sold it to my brother and bought the 2001 automatic with triptronic. I love these cars! Once you sit in one and drive, you are spoiled for life!
so far so good
I am a guy who keeps his cars for over 10 years if possible, I was concerned that the Audi would not hold up. It is a bit early to say, but it is going well so far. I will have to replace the tires as there is a slow leak and I had to change the CD player (at no cost) but otherwise all is well. The car seems to be somewhat noiser that it use to be. I hope it holds up for a another 8 years !!! Eric
A+ for the A4
I have been driving this car since November, 2000. I love the reliability of this A4. It's very sleek and impressive looking. I've gotten constant compliments on the look and the smooth ride.
Love my Audi
In January 2001, I purchased an Audi A4, 1.8 turbo, with quattro new. A little over 20 years, I'm still driving it with its original engine. I have just over 250,000 miles on it. I'm still loving the handling and size of the car. Not sure what would get me to stop driving the car. When I have it serviced at Audi and get a loaner car, the new Audi vehicle feel more like a tank in size. A very nice tank, but a tank.
2001 Audi A4 2.8
I bought this car a week ago and 1 day later the radio buttons went out, a headlight wire was loose and the cupholder needed to be replaced because it stuck. The radio was also replaced. I wonder what is next and am afraid to take it on a long trip for fear something will stop working.
Competition Yellow Audi
I have the most beautiful Audi ever made. The A4 has beautiful outer styling that molds to it's shell like skin. I have the screaming yellow color that catches attention everywhere I go. I was so impressed with my Audi A6 2.7T Quattro that the dealer got me into another Audi which is the A4 2.8 Quattro. I have never stopped smiling.
I love this car!
The A4 is an excellent combination of performance and comfort in a smaller car. With the addition of the Bridgestone Pole Position ties this car drives like it is on flypaper, especially on sweeping curves where many BMW driver has only the view of my four rings disappearing in the distance ahead of them. :)
A4 Avant - Amazing car!
Though a wagon, never feels like one. Handles like a dream. Puts a smile on the face of anyone who gets behind the wheel. Solid, jaunty, nervy car, handles on the curves like no other car on the road. You feel safe driving this thing and you are. Plus, if you're naughty and crank it up past 100, you'll see what it's all about: shakeless, silent splendor!
I like it even more after owning it.
I've extensively upgraded with performance parts since buying new in May of 2001. The car is incredibly fun to drive with plenty of power, while still remaining very fuel- efficient over long distances. Had the coil- pack replaced when recalled, had the cupholder replaced when the trim broke. Replaced one headlight bulb. Everything else is perfect!
Lots of fun for a sedan
This is the very first Audi I have owned and I have been nothing but pleased. The car is able to maneuver perfectly in all weather conditions and has excellent headlights for night driving. I wouldn't call it roomy but it certainly offers a comfortable ride. You'll never have more fun driving your wife's grocery getter.
Silver Streakin'
I purchased this vehicle with plans to moderately modify it with a chip and possibly Euro Xenon headlamps since the specific car that I was looking at did not come with Xenon lights. Well, who knew that I'd have a lot more than just those modifications? Along with the chip(s) and lights, I have added Stasis Tracksport coilovers, StopTech brakes, Neuspeed rear anti-sway bar, Strat short shifter, Bailey bypass valve, a boost gauge in the center vent, APR snub mount and AWE DTS to firm up the drivetrain as well as a few other mods. The more I add to this car, the more I enjoy it at driver's schools via the Audi clubs and other high performance driving schools.
2001 Audi A4 1.8t quattro
My 2001 Audi A4 is great. I've only had it for six months but its performance is out standing, a little on the slow side but very fun to drive. I've driven a lot of cars in my lifetime and this one just does it for me. The performance upgrades are endless.
I love this car
I absolutely love my A4. It had two recalls but after that it's been my cruise machine. My only gripe is that it uses Premium gas and that is getting expensive since I have a leadfoot. I love being able to acelerate and drive in the mountains with all wheel drive and a tiptronic system. THIS car is zoom zoom.
Sport Wagon !
A wagon that has satified my desire for a sports car. With the sports suspension it handles our curvy/hilly country roads with a remarkably flat road hugging ride. Yet it is still a practicle car, 4 people ride comfortably (a fifty not so comfortable). Has flexible cargo capacity.
