good man! hold on to these cars, I own a red '90 LE coupe 3.1 and I only paid $500 and it has NO RUST ANYWHERE. It'll be an antique in 5 years, and its a car thats got character and its fun to drive
I have 94 3.1se with same problem. Starter will click periodically and not start, play with key, shifter, security lock then it will decide to work (sometimes), this has been an ongoing problem for a few years. Seemed to be a starter issue - Pontiac dealer changed starter 2 times, my mechanic thought it was starter also, changed starter again; problem still re-occurs after short period of time. After checking the ... Read More
The car runs fine. It has a new alternator, plugs, wires and batt around a year old and tested fine in the car. The volts read fine when it doesn't start. It makes a click noise and doesn't turn over at all. I turn the key back and try again and it will start but the engine will rev up high then idle normal. I cleaned out the idle air control ... Hi, I also have a 1990 pontiac grand prix. I think your problem is with the idle learn control. Any time the battery is disconnected for a period of time the computer(ecm) loses its idle learn memory and defaults to preset value. It will now have to be re programmed with the correct values. This can be done at your GM dealer for the cost of around $80.00 , depending where ... Read More
If you havent had it fixed yet, i would recommend checking the idle control valve. We have a 91 Grand Prix and a 90 Grand AM and experienced similar problem. We didnt even have to replace the part - just remove it and clean it good with carb cleaner. That did the trick
I just purchased a little fixer upper for $900.00. I is a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix LE with the 3.1 Multi Port V6 with only 92000 miles. I have put a new alternator, oil change, tune up, and batt new before i bought the car. The cars is FAST and runs great except for minor problems like the slip in the tranny at 20 mph which has been occuring on my ... Read More
will a 1989 pontiac grand prix se 2.8 tranny interchange with a 1990 grand prix se 3.1
Regfootball, i semi agree with you, But in GTP form the GP does really peform, 0-60 in 6.6 seconds is pretty impressive. The GT 8-8.5 is kind of crappy for a sports sedan. Thankgod they killed the rent a car SE. REAL Grand Prixs were 2 door coupes with V8's and RWD all the way from 1962-1987, I think the first GP sedan arrived in 1990? The 2004 is only a ... Read More
<<<Pontiac's reworked midsize was a big hit from the start. Sales of the '97 model ran more than 50 percent of 1996 levels, though naturally its popularity tapered off later>>> Killing the coupe lost 20% of the Grand Prix customers... that is why the 2002 outsold the 2003. Right now the 2004 sales are behind the '03's... The 2004 will never have the sales success over the '03 like the 1997 ... Read More
Hi Folks, Well, it looks like I will be buying a Grand Prix at the begining of next month. Is this a good idea? Are there any problems that I need to know about? It can't be any worse than the 98 Taurus I have now. Nothing bu problems with that car. The transmission has not worked properly since the day I bought it. Had it serviced 13 times in 2.5 ...
