  • Re: 1997 Villager Gas Vapor after running in warm weather [lorenajack]

    Written by: nissanquest94 on Aug 31, 2011 3:00:54 PM

I often went to Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts to just describe the problem and ask them which additives should be used and how to apply, and you will learn a lot. In many cases, the problem is common to many cars and the solution is unbelievably simple and cost effective. If you go to auto mechanics first, they may tell you to replace this and that, and ... No, I did not say you have a defective PCV valve which is just one of three places to apply Seafoam, the other two are crankcase and gas tank. This is just general cost effective cleaning of lots of things that could have caused subtle problems. Last time, my Nissan Quest 94 had similar problem, when I used Engine Restorer, all the bad smells all gone, in addition to have very ... Read More

It seems your gas tank also got water. You got bad luck getting gas with water in cheap gas station. As you may know the gas is lighter so it is at top of the gas tank, and water sink down. When you gas tank fill up, you may have no problem for a long while till one day you hit that gas/water boundary. Well, fuel pump can not just pump ... Read More

I read tacobels distributor cap problem, I put an oem dist cap on it. Ran great for 10 minutes and went right back to poppin and not wanting to run. Almost stalled. Pulled out dist, the gear was fine, could it still be the distributor or could it be the coil? there is a small crack on tplug in part of the coil. This is a 1997 villager.

I just change the oxygen sensor and the knock sensor and drove it 2000 miles. All of a sudden, it started to run rough and then now today, the check engine light came on. I took it to the shop where they had fixed it the last time and they stated that the computer signal came back as "running lean". I know that the PVC valve could be in the way ... Read More

If left over several hourd (5-6 hours) or overnite, it will start and runs beautifully for 10-15 minutes and then dies again. This is a reoccuring problem. Any solution to this nagging problem?

Being a 1997 with the miles and age is also a problem and maybe lucky that it can still go if it has not had proper care. The distributor is the hart of the engine and when it does not work correct you may get a knock code, miss or what ever. I thought it's only a C clip holding the axle to the intermediate shaft? They meet at the axle bearing, and I can't seperate the two.. ??? Chris

Can you please tell me what you did to fix your Villager A/C problem??? Thanks!

I added a hidden hitch, which fits around the rear compartment nicely. Ordered from jcwhitney, no problems. Just be ready to loosen the muffler/exhaust pipe and make sure you have a torque wrench ready. Be aware I do scrape it if I come across a high speed bump too fast. I learned quickly how slow was necessary to avoid it.

Follow up to my transmission shifting problems. Installing a new TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) solved the problem. What seemed like a slipping transmission was just the TPS not sending the signals that tell the transmission when to shift gears. Everything seems to be working great and we erased the codes by taking of the battery ground for a few minutes. Have gone out for three drives with it and no Check ... Read More

I have advice, although not from problems with my quest. I had a volkswagen which I bought in 1996. It had defects in the paint, which after giving the dealership 2-3 chances to repaint we realized it would never look 'factory new' (which is of course what you pay for when you buy a car). I couldn't get any satisfaction from the dealership and I was so down about the outcome ... Read More

Nissan has never been exceptional in heating. My sister had a Nissan from the late 80's that was slow to heat. My 1997 Pathfinder barely provides enough heat at max when below 0 F. It's tolerable, but I wish they would do better. The posts above have me scared to commit to a Quest. I live in central Wisconsin and we haven't seen 32 F in three weeks and below 0 ... Read More

I agree with earlier post - this area is kind of biased to Quest - but I honestly think it delivers the best value in many cases. For reference, I have been driving a 1995 Ford Windstar since 8/10/94 and it just cracked the 125k mark this week. Needed plenty of tender loving care and $ to make it though. Still runs, but it is time to move on... I'm getting ... Read More

But don't expect too much about Nissan Quest MSRP. From Murando MSRP (spelling is correct?), Nissan Quest will not cheap. kim67, what about the internal material in the quest?

We have almost 60K miles on the van but we are only averaging 4,000-6,000 miles out of each set of brakes. We have had several cases opened with Nissan Consumer Affairs. The latest "solution" was ...
