I often went to Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts to just describe the problem and ask them which additives should be used and how to apply, and you will learn a lot. In many cases, the problem is common to many cars and the solution is unbelievably simple and cost effective. If you go to auto mechanics first, they may tell you to replace this and that, and ... No, I did not say you have a defective PCV valve which is just one of three places to apply Seafoam, the other two are crankcase and gas tank. This is just general cost effective cleaning of lots of things that could have caused subtle problems. Last time, my Nissan Quest 94 had similar problem, when I used Engine Restorer, all the bad smells all gone, in addition to have very ... Read More
It seems your gas tank also got water. You got bad luck getting gas with water in cheap gas station. As you may know the gas is lighter so it is at top of the gas tank, and water sink down. When you gas tank fill up, you may have no problem for a long while till one day you hit that gas/water boundary. Well, fuel pump can not just pump ... Read More
I read tacobels distributor cap problem, I put an oem dist cap on it. Ran great for 10 minutes and went right back to poppin and not wanting to run. Almost stalled. Pulled out dist, the gear was fine, could it still be the distributor or could it be the coil? there is a small crack on tplug in part of the coil. This is a 1997 villager.
so i have this 1997 nissan quest that since i've had it, has had a sliding door lock problem. when i try to lock all the doors at either the driver's side keyhole or the interior driver's side door lock switch, the sliding door won't lock fully, it'll make a 'hurrrRRR...' noise. sometimes i have to "lock" the door several times until i hear the sliding door lock fully engage. so ... I just change the oxygen sensor and the knock sensor and drove it 2000 miles. All of a sudden, it started to run rough and then now today, the check engine light came on. I took it to the shop where they had fixed it the last time and they stated that the computer signal came back as "running lean". I know that the PVC valve could be in the way ... Read More
have a 97 nissan quest with a 3.0L motor...I have a random cylinder misfire that occurs when cruising at around 45mph at 1500rpm's.. and at wide open throttle the motor looses all power and acts like it hits a rev limiter at 4500rpm's while under load, I have replaced all 6 injectors, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, knock sensor, fuel pump, timing belt, fuel filter, air filter, mass airflow sensor, distributor, ignition coil ... I have a 1997 Nissan Quest. For a second time in about 6 months, it started acting up, and then the check engine light came on. We had driven about 40 miles, stopped at a grocery store for about 15 minutes, and when I came out and started the van, it started rough and begin to miss. We drove up the street and stopped at another store for about 30 minutes. ... Read More
My 1997 Nissan Quest will start nicely and ride good for about 10 -15 minutes and then dies . All attempt to restart it will fail. If left over several hourd (5-6 hours) or overnite, it will start and runs beautifully for 10-15 minutes and then dies again. This is a reoccuring problem. Any solution to this nagging problem?
Rear window wiper motor keeps wiper rumbling. Sounds like a heavy vibration noise. Use to happen when I start my engine, but now it's happening more frequently when I'm driving. When it only happened at start up, I would get out of the car, and go to the back and set the wiper on the windows and not on the car. Now it rumbles on the window too. I bought it ... Read More

Being a 1997 with the miles and age is also a problem and maybe lucky that it can still go if it has not had proper care. The distributor is the hart of the engine and when it does not work correct you may get a knock code, miss or what ever. It being a 1997 and unless it has had proper care, you may have more that just one problem! ... Read More
The Quest is a 1997. However, I was able to remove the bracket and axle.. Only, the intermediate shaftjackshaft came out with it, and it seems they will not seperate. I thought it's only a C clip holding the axle to the intermediate shaft? They meet at the axle bearing, and I can't seperate the two.. ??? Chris
I just replaced the A/C compressor in my wife's 2001 Nissan Quest and now I am experiencing the same problem you had with your 1997 Villager, i.e. A/C blowing ice cold air in the rear of the van, outside ambient temp from the front. Can you please tell me what you did to fix your Villager A/C problem??? Thanks!
1997 Nissan Quest... 142,000 miles
I have a 1997 Nissan Quest with 103,000 miles on it and have been struggling with a problem for 3 years and about $200 later for having dealers use their gas sniffer around it finding no problems. In cold weather when I start the car up and move down the road I start smelling a very strong odor of gasoline in the passenger compartment. The smell is so bad I have ... Read More
I added a hidden hitch, which fits around the rear compartment nicely. Ordered from jcwhitney, no problems. Just be ready to loosen the muffler/exhaust pipe and make sure you have a torque wrench ready. Be aware I do scrape it if I come across a high speed bump too fast. I learned quickly how slow was necessary to avoid it.
I have a 1997 Nissan Quest that runs like a dream and am looking at adding a trailer hitch to pull a small trailer with two dirt bikes. Is it possible to add a trailer hitch to these and is there a weight limit that if you exceed could damage the vehicle? :D
Follow up to my transmission shifting problems. Installing a new TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) solved the problem. What seemed like a slipping transmission was just the TPS not sending the signals that tell the transmission when to shift gears. Everything seems to be working great and we erased the codes by taking of the battery ground for a few minutes. Have gone out for three drives with it and no Check ... Read More
I have advice, although not from problems with my quest. I had a volkswagen which I bought in 1996. It had defects in the paint, which after giving the dealership 2-3 chances to repaint we realized it would never look 'factory new' (which is of course what you pay for when you buy a car). I couldn't get any satisfaction from the dealership and I was so down about the outcome ... Read More
Nissan has never been exceptional in heating. My sister had a Nissan from the late 80's that was slow to heat. My 1997 Pathfinder barely provides enough heat at max when below 0 F. It's tolerable, but I wish they would do better. The posts above have me scared to commit to a Quest. I live in central Wisconsin and we haven't seen 32 F in three weeks and below 0 ... Read More
I agree with earlier post - this area is kind of biased to Quest - but I honestly think it delivers the best value in many cases. For reference, I have been driving a 1995 Ford Windstar since 8/10/94 and it just cracked the 125k mark this week. Needed plenty of tender loving care and $ to make it though. Still runs, but it is time to move on... I'm getting ... Read More
I got the following problem with my Villager (1997, 146K miles). Time to time, when pressing gas pedal on the stop light, the acceleration is very weak. (I heard word "hesitation" - could it be used to describe this?) I need to release pedal and press it once again to make it work. Then, while driving 40-50 mph if I am trying to push gas pedal slightly (let's say to go ... Read More
On Monday, July 28th 2003...Me and a friend test drove both the 2004 Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna vans within 1 hour or so of each other on the same road course and same exact environmental conditions, especially over some rough roads and highway driving. Both the Nissan and Toyota dealerships are across from each other in the auto-mall, so this gave us the opportunity to test the models in the ... Read More
I hope Nissan Quest can have 8th seat. Otherwise, I can choice Toyata Sienna only. I have 1987 Nissan Sentra, and 1997 Nissan Altima, and I believe Nissan quality and reliability. But don't expect too much about Nissan Quest MSRP. From Murando MSRP (spelling is correct?), Nissan Quest will not cheap. kim67, what about the internal material in the quest?
I have a 1997 Nissan Quest GXE with 102,000 KM. Just did a complete brake job (front and back). After all this work they brakes still feel quite soft. All the lines have been bled and fluid topped up. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks.
I am looking to buy a 1997 Quest. Since Nissan is fazing out the Quest, is there any concern in purchasing a 1997 Quest.( Parts availability, etc.). I can't think of any issues but would appreciate other's comments. thanks
Okay, we have a 99 Quest and, I kid you not, we have just had the brakes replaced for I believe it is the tenth time - yes 10th time - in just over two years. We have almost 60K miles on the van but we are only averaging 4,000-6,000 miles out of each set of brakes. We have had several cases opened with Nissan Consumer Affairs. The latest "solution" was ... I love my Quest. It is my third one. It just irks me that I have to take my wife's keys because Nissan cheaped out on installing a lock cylinder on the passanger side of the car. My 1997 Quest had a lock cylinder in both the passenger door and the rear sliding door. My 1999 has a lock cylinder in the passenger door only. That was OK because if you ... Read More
We're thinking very seriously about buying a 1997 Nissan Quest (we were going to talk price today!). All this talk about crank shaft problems has me worried. Does anyone know if the problem was corrected before the 97's came out? The van is loaded...leather and all extras and in immaculate condition...40k miles...sticker price $17,900 (which is very much in line with the blue book value). We're hoping to get down to ... Our 1993 Nissan had 35,000 miles on it when we bought it used in 1997. It now has nearly 70,000 miles on it now. The problem is it has trouble getting over hills or even accelerating. We have gotten conflicting reports of what we should expect of an engine in this year of van and that the next year they put a bigger engine in the Quest. The EGR or ERG ... Read More
