Mitsubishi Galant

  • First Galant

    Written by: wolfie1254 on Jan 8, 2009 6:15:42 AM

I have owned several Japanese cars over the years - Mazda, Subaru, and Honda (currently own 1999 Honda Accord). I am in the process of shopping for a late model used car and there is a dealer in PA that has 4 2008 Galants with low mileage and even one 2009 Galant. I don't know much about the Mitsubishi Galant as far as how it rides or more important long term ... Read More

The Galant will be redesgined in for 2009. As much as I love Galants, Im on my second, sales are not where mitsubishi would like them to be, they will redo it all. But they are redesinged every five years. the way they and toyota do it, always lets you know what to expect. Example: Mitsubishi came out with the third generation galant in 1994, it started out with softer, flush ... Read More

Please take a look at my post #2150. Although I don't believe it would be useful, since it's for a 2001 Galant. I think the model changed in 1999. But at least you'll see the tool-free for Mitsubishi, maybe they can help for a reasonable price. I hope that u have the code though, otherwise I've heard it's not cheap to go to the dealer for this issue. Good Luck!

  • Does 1999 single-disk CD player handle CD-Rs?

Written by: vivona on Jan 21, 2005 6:22:30 AM

Some of the 1999 Galants came with a Mitsubishi AM/FM/Cassette radio with a separate Mitsubishi single-disk CD player that mounted under the radio. The radio had the controls for the CD player. I want to buy one of those used 1999 Mitsubishi CD players (from eBay) but I need to know if that unit will play CD-R's.    If you have a 1999 with the factory supplied separate single-disk CD player ... • Former Galant owner - my experience

Written by: rueshan on Feb 12, 2004 10:15:18 AM

I had a 2000 Galant LS before buying my 2004 Accord EX-V6 with Nav. My Galant was purchased new with 9 miles on the odo and had no major problems, except for 2 recalls and having to replace the brakes at 22K...too soon in my opinion. But several things troubled me about the car in general. First, the timing belt had to be replaced at 60,000 miles which seemed to be ... Read More

  • Quality is a real concern.

    Written by: lawman1967 on Jan 16, 2004 7:08:10 AM

I sold my 2002 Galant after only 18 months of ownership and at quite a loss because of major brake issues that I ultimately had to fix myself with the sledgehammer method (replaced the whole brake system), and because of many minor problems. Minor problems included an intermittent noise from the dashboard that sounded like rustling plastic trashbags and was loud enough to interfere with conversation, a loud rattling metal-on-metal sound ... • More Galant and Protege resale

    Written by: lawman1967 on Nov 26, 2003 10:59:32 AM

Selling a car after only two years is something I try very hard NOT to do. I kept my last car, a 1997 Nissan Sentra, for 5 years, and my car before that, a 1994 Mazda 323, for four years (wife drove after I bought the Sentra). Here is the resale value on 1999 model Galants and Proteges, equipped as close to my cars as possible, with 80,000 miles, which is ... Read More

"very strange item..My daughter has a 1999 Galant ES 4 cylinder(bought new in 1999). She has 52k miles on it. She has had the oil changed at Mitsubishi and at Sears many times. I changed her oil and filter on Saturday. I don't think anyone ever changed the oil filter on this car even though she paid for it every change. The oil filter I removed was a Mitsubishi oil filter, ... Read More

  • Electrical gremlins?

    Written by: marcb4 on Apr 11, 2002 1:56:59 PM

I'm pretty close to purchasing a 1999 V6 GTZ Galant with around 28K miles on it that seems to be in very good shape, however the electrical system concerns me. Not being familiar at all with Mitsubishis, I'd appreciate some feedback on this one: Both power mirrors were dead due to a blown fuse; one of the bulbs for the turning signal was burnt; the dealer replaced the bulb and the ... I purchased a 1999 galant GTZ on 8-99 from Tempe Mitsubishi in AZ. I am overall pleased with the car. I had noticed a slight shake in the front end when applying the brakes at higher speeds(70+ mph.) I took it in to have it inspected within an hour I was called and told there is a service bulletin on this problem. They replaced the lower control arms, bushings, ball joints, ... Read More

  • GOODBYE Turning in Lease End for my 1999 Galant ES

Written by: townrider on Mar 29, 2001 7:16:50 PM

After 24 months on my 1999 Gallant ES I would never recommend a Mitsubishi to any friend. The shakes and rattles are reminiscent of GMs. After 24,100 miles and having been recalled 3 times, seen the service department at least 5 times, Mitsubishi's looking more like a GM or Chrysler in terms of quality and service. I'm going Honda, Toyota, Nissan or Lexus.

The Galant is a unique car. It is good looking and fun to drive. So much so that it instills an almost instant loyalty. If you read this forum nearly all of the newer owners rave about their cars (and get angry at us who attempt to instill a bit of reality) while those of us who have put more miles on these cars know the real story. It is like ... Read More

homer61388, Your nephew should surely by a Galant. I have a 1999 ES 4cyl. with 22K. I have not had any major problems with it so far. I have only replaced a hose clamp with a better designed one. I recently bought a '99 Galant ES. Three reasons why I bought it, speed, speed and speed. The way it accelerates and it's smoothness, in my opinion, outperforms it's competitors. Camrys, Accords, Civics, etc... are all good cars but they're so boring! Everyone and their cousin drives one. I wanted to drive something different on the road and I though a Galant was different. I've read lots of positive feedback about ... Read More
