I just got a 2001 Mercury Sable a couple months ago. About a week ago, I noticed something around the dash was making noise and every time I stepped on the gas, the heater would slow down. It did that for a couple days, then the blower motor just quit working. I thought the blower motor went totally out, then it kicked back on. Now it just works when it wants ... Read More
I have the same problem with my 2001 Mercury Sable LS. It started back about 5 months ago. I would start the car with no problems. The car would go thru about a 2 min cycle on a higher idle and then when it was over the rpms would drop down to 500 like yours does. It would act like there was no gas and jerk or lunge causing lights to ... Read More
The turn signal bulb (small amber colored bulb) in the headlamp of my 2001 Mercury Sable went out. Does anybody know how to access that bulb so I can replace it? Thanks.
I have a 2001 Mercury Sable with 120,000 miles, and was about to leave a red light and the car would not move, forward or in reverse. Sounded like I heard a faint pop then nothing. Could this be a sensor? Car was driving fine. Any suggestions before I take it to a shop.
Hi I was driving home in my 2001 mercury sable when I notice my radio acting weird and sounding weird. I looked down at the dash and my abs light came on and shortly after that my airbag light came on. When I stopped at the next stop light my car began to lose power. I was able to drive for about 5 blocks and just as I thought it was ... Read More
I have this EXACT same problem, but can not figure out what to do about it - I am hesitant to take it to a mechanic before doing a little research since I just moved to Texas, where there is no such thing as consumer protection, and any mechanic can take you to the cleaners just for pulling into their parking lot. (And for those who say this means they won't ... Read More
Hi, I have a 2001 Mercury Sable; Vin code: S; 3.0; Duratec; DOHC; gas. I am trying to find out information about changing the engine; the one in the car is no good. I would like to know what type of engine and what years will go into this vehicle. And where is the best place to find a used engine. Thank You, Debbie
where did you connect the wire to- the pump or the pig tail and what color wire did you connect to?
I purchased this car in Dec this year with only 31k on it. I didn't check the air when we got home we realized we couldn't get the air to work. We did a search through Yahoo and came up with a sheet to test the climate control to see what the problem was. Instead of giving us a code it just reset the system. Then we checked and the air ... You can test by running a direct ground to the battery but we just ran a seperate one right under the backseat. Drill through floor and ground under seat ...... No corrosion to bother the ground under there.
We drilled a hole in the floor under the back seat and ran a direct ground from the pump to under the rear seat .
I am having a similar problem with a 99 ford taurus. The car will not run. The pump gives nothing. after removing the hose connected to the fuel filter to see if it would give anything or if there was a line restriction. I turned the ignition on and off a few times trying to see if it would cycle some fuel out. Nothing. After extensive electrical tests I found the ... Read More
Check your ground and read my 2 posts under mercury sable 3.0 "U" code fuel press. prob. it may save you alot of headaches and expense!!
Well everyone after many hours of work and a lot checks I now have the answer!!! Turns out I was dealing with more than one problem. My "little valve" right off the pump is indeed a anti-drainback valve. Which is the reason why the fuel was bypassing to the tank. So I purchased a complete fuel pump module from the local ford dealer and installed it, only to find out that ... Read More
First of all I am a certified mechanic and did work for a Ford dealership some years ago. I have been trying to address a fuel pressure problem with this 01 Sable. I have tried numerous different things from replacing the pump with a used assembly (by used assembly I mean the pump and module as a unit), to using the original module with a new aftermarket pump, to using the ... I have a 2001 Mercury Sable that periodly decides to disengage the engine so that nothing works. No lights, the engine won't start, nothing. It seems as though the alarm system has engaged itself to shut everything down. It will not take a jump, or respond to a battery charger,so its not the battery. The dealership and another mechanic has looked at it, but can't find anything wrong. I've asked to have ... Read More
robertplattbel and bigdan1: I owned a 2000 Merc. Sable wagon which developed problems first identified in the power steering pump and later in the rack and pinion assembly. The latter would've been replaced but wasn't because the car was totaled in an unfortunate accident. Please do yourselves a favor and have this checked out as it is a somewhat costly repair quite common to Tauri/Sables.
I am looking at a 2001 Mercury Sable. It has 52,000 miles. I know the owner, and trust him when he says car is clean and runs good. Mileage is low because his father owned it, but died. My friend inherited the car, but does not travel far to work.He is moving up to a newer car due to a recent promotion at work. I have been a Ford man my ... Read More

I have a problem with my 2001 Mercury Sable LS. The Low Coolant light comes on and I can't figure out why? Let's face it, image, and overinflated egos, are what sell many of the high line makes, and many SUVs here in the good old USA. Manufacturers love it, as they make substantially larger profits supplying what egocentrics "think" they need. That being said I just bought a 2001 Sable LS Premium with 36,000 miles on the clock for my daughter who's in graduate school for $6,000. The car was never a ... Read More
I have a 2001 Sable with about 100K miles on it, and it started running rough a couple of days ago. Its symptoms are a jerking motion within the drive train, and sometimes sluggish performance, even with your foot on the gas.... where is this sensor located on the car? any information you can give me would be great.
I own a 2001 Mercury Sable and have the same problem. The lights stay on all the time when I use the auto-mode lights. Recently, they have been flashing off for a second and then back on. I believe it is the sensor but have not had it checked.
Code po 460 - Which indicated that Fuel level sensor. This was replaced, but the problem is still happening. I was told that it may now be the "Flex Fuel Sensor"??? Does this seem right?
Which diagnostic code numbers were retrieved?
Recently purchased an 01 Sable and the check engine was on. The check engine light would stay on for a couple days and then go out on its own. I also noticed that right before the light would come on, my fuel guage needle would shoot up to FULL (even if I only had a 1/4 tank of gas. Dianostics indicated it was a low fuel sensor, so the fuel pump/sender ... Read More
I have a 2001 Merc Sable LS Premium. The automatic headlights are a great feature. Lately, they do not turn off in the light. In the day time, it is like we have running lights. The lights work correctly in manual mode. Is there a light sensor bad? Can anyone guess what my problem is and how to fix it. Thanks
Hi, I was just reading your old e mail. It's interesting to me. Can you believe how bad Ford is doing? You were ahead of your time...almost 2 years to the date. I should have read it sooner. I own a Mercury Sable, and have lost a fortune on it. It's in the shop right now $1,400.00 tune up...for a piece of crap
Need some guidance on replacing broken rear sway bar end link on a 2001 mercury sable. 1. How do I move the sway bar enough to insert the new link? 2. How tight should I turn the top and bottom bolts?. 3. Should the rubber grommets be lubricated? 4. Only one link is broken. Is it necessary to replace both links? Thank you
I have a 2001 Mercury Sable that I hate but cant afford to trade it in.Well my A\C is not working it doesn't work it doesn't blow any air hot or cold. It work when ever it feels like it and it's almost never can anyone help?
I bought a 2001 sable wagon and found the code by looking on the drivers side way up under the dash on the side of a fuse box (I think). It wasn't easy to read, I had to get my 13 year old son who had good vision and a smaller head to actually read the number for me. It's just a white sticker with black print. The owner's manual said ... Read More
Hello, everyone! I have now driven my 2001 Ford Taurus SES for almost a month now. My follow-up is that this car is great! It HANDLES well and has plenty of pull from the V6. The ride is very SOLID, yet the suspension is firm enough to handle road irregularities and handle the curves with ease. The factory CD system sounds GREAT and plays them all (even scratched) with no problems. ... Read More
i must apply pressure and press the pedal at leasst 1 inch before any braking action whatsoever occurs on my 2001 sable. it has only been 1000 miles since i had new pads and the dealer said such a response is normal. does anyone else have such problems and is so what is the remedy? i only have 17000 miles.
You are not alone, crusin14108. I agree that the heating and a/c is less than acceptable. My 2001 Sable takes a good 10 minutes to warm up in the winter, or cool down in the summer. Even my husband, who drives an '83 Mercury Topaz, notices the difference whenever he's in my car.
""That's the way it's supposed to work. In any mode except vent, the a/c will engage. It's in the owners manual. Hi all, Just received a safety recall notice (01S08) today in the mail from Mercury. It deals with both 2000 & 2001 Sables and Taurus's that have the power adjustable pedals. "Grease used on the adjustable pedal assembly may enter the brake lamp switch and contaminate the contacts. This may cause one or more of the following symptoms to occur: -Brake lights stay illuminated or are inoperative. -Shift Interlock disabled (will ... Read More
