Hey I know it's been a while since you posted this but.... I have a 2000 Mazda Millenia S with this same code P0431. Same problem as you, local shop told me cat converter but the muffler shop told me it was in good shape, looked new some then another shop said pre-cat... talk about confusion is right. I'm lost and don't know what to do... you can email me at ... Read More

Thanks for the info! I forgot to mention though that they did replace the thermostat. I pray it doesn't cost 2,500 and that maybe it is something simple! Elizabeth
also check and see if the fan is coming on. make sure it's plugged up and check to see if the relay is bad.
hey, it could be the water pump going out or the thremostat. no matter mazda going to charge u more for any thing on the s model. i have the 01 and i have problems trying to get it looked at and fix, but i'm like u. u pay a 100 for diagostic and the labor is going to do the rest. and if it's under the timing cover, u would ... Bought the car in 2007 from my son-in-laws VW dealership where he works as a finance manager. It has been great. Had a problem with the shifting panel in the car, coke spilled in it. Whole thing was replaced including spark plugs, and a new replacement head light to a tune of $1,200 which my son-in-law paid for and gave us a loaner car. He called and said they couldn't fix ... I have had a 1999 and a 2000 Millenia. The EGR value issue is a big chaotic problem, yet with a simple solution. If you take the intake off the throttle body, and remove the four screws that hold the throttle body on and remove it also. You WILL see a really clogged hole in the bottom. If you take some engine cleaner, and spray it in it will break up ... Read More
Does anyone have the layout for the oxygen sensors for the 99 mm S. I need to find the bank 2 oxygen sensor. Thanks for your help
You might also want to post this in our Technical Questions discussion. It's not limited to the Millenia and I think you'll find more gearheads hanging out there than you will here. But we'll wait to see if someone here can help as well. Good luck.
Steevo2 I just bought a 1999 Mazda Millenia S that from day one is shaking. While still under warranty the dealer has looked at it and found an axle cracked (told originally) but replaced the CV boot???? It normally shakes in the morning and settles down before I hit work even after the replacement. Have you found out what caused your shake?
I refer to my earlier posting about the clicking/tapping noise from the front left suspension on warm days at slow speeds on all road types. The problem has been resolved finally upon the replacement of the middle control arm link. Earlier the lower and upper control arms, the tie rod end and the steering rack were replaced all under warranty. The part was replaced under warranty under the Mazda added protection ... Read More
I recently took my 1999 Mazda Millenia S (65,000 miles)into the dealership where I purchased my car for a routine check-up and asked them to replace the timing belt and other belts. They charged $794.00 to change the belts, rotate the tires, and replace the oil and filter. I felt this was pricey, but I was willing to pay it because I love my car and it rides/drives like a dream. ... Read More
Automotive Recall and Technical Service Bulletin Titles for 1999 Mazda Millenia S V6-2.3L DOHC (Miller cycle). 0500101 APR 01 A/T - Whining/Ringing Noise in Interior If I remember correctly it is caused by a transmission cable. Your Mazda dealer should be able to fill you in on it, but it looks like AllData has started charging for the information. This has been discussed here before and if you go back a ... Read More
I can mention about the clicking noise which is more apparent during warmer days. In my case it is on the left front suspension and occurs at low speeds or while car is still and the steering is turned (nothing to do with CV joints). The replacement of the suspected bushings on the upper left control arm did not help. This morning the left suspension link was replaced. I'll find out ... Read More
I've got a '98 Millenia S w/ 109,000 miles, it's been a great car, no problems until recently. The check engine light use to turn on and off, now it just stays on - my dealer charged me $85 to tell me it was an O2 sensor that would cost $400 to replace. My airbag light has been blinking for about 30,000 miles, ever since I got a new battery. My ... Read More
Hi Thanks for the welcome. I joined this page, because I know very little about Mazdas. I was thinking about buying a 1999 Millenia. I was wondering what the most common repairs are on a Mazda, and how they compare with Nissans?
The Edmunds chart for 1999-2000 sales http://www.edmunds.com/news/feature/vehicles/44695/page001. shows them below that of most other Japanese entry level luxury models but there must be some significant regional differences, Millenias were absurdly popular in the Detroit metro area. I would say that I still see more of them than either Acuras or Infinitis. Of course the Millenia is a small midsize, like the 6, and with a 3.0 litre available its Miller cycle ... Read More
Hey Millenia Owners - looking for some suggestions or indications that anyone else has experienced this problem. When I go to fill-up on gas in my 1999 Milennia S, lately it will not take a full tank. The gas stops pumping, when I get in the car, it shows that it is only 3/4 full on the guage, was wondering if this was common, and suggestions as to what the problem ... Read More
I don't care if you sold Mazda in the early 90's or even now. The 1999 Mazda Millenia P I had was 3yrs or 36,000 miles.Maybe Mazda did an upgrade for the model year 2000, but the Millenia I leased from Westchester Mazda had 3yrs or 36,000 miles.
Guys- I was reading today's Wall Street Journal and I came across an article in the Personal Journal Section. The article is about how Auto Dealers are ruining the RESALE value on used car. The incentives and 0% financing they are offering according to the article is depreciating the value of the used car market. What stood out to me was the Mazda Millenia S, they are saying that on a 2000 ... Read More
I'm amazed at all the millenia handles better than the max posts lacking statistical evidence. Show me a skid pad for the millenia, or braking from 70, etc. I have a hard time believing that the millenia can out handle the max without a limited slip diff, and smaller wheels/less agressive tires. If you can find evidence, then we can debate the issue. Same goes for the quality control issue. Maxima ... Read More
You know why I get bent up over the silly comments some of you TROLLS make on the Millenia, because I am 100% sure that none of you have ever owned the car. I am not a Maxima specialist. But my understanding from what I have read, is that the 5th generation uses the same platform as the 4th, but revamped to add about 30% more rigidity. The interior was also redone. For the 2001 model, Mazda also added about 30% more rigidity to the Millenia chassis, and the interior was completely redone. The Maxima also has used the same drivetrain for years, except ... Read More

I have a 1999 Mazda Millenia with 52,000 miles on it. A few days ago I was going down the freeway at 65 - the speed limit - when the engine seized up or so the dealer tells me. Welcome. Do you have a rotary Mazda? I had a 1986 RX7 until the engine seals went. I sold it to help with the down payment on a house. I would have kept it if I didn't have to dump money into it. I want to accumulate a data base on all S owners that have had problems with their Superchargers (excessive smoke at startup and excessive oil consumption). Mazda has apparently not solved the problem, atleast as of January 1999 when the fifth part number was introduced for the Lysholm Compressor. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Include your name and VIN number and any problems you have had.
Concerning only Millenia S's in US and 800M's Aust There hsve been 5 different part #'s on the Lysholm compressor in an attempt to solve the problem of failing "Mechanical Oil Seals". Mazda never publicly admitted to the problem with a TSB but did distribute a "Service Tip" to it's dealer's advising replacement of the Lysholm compressor (only under Warrenty) if complaints were received of "Excessive Smoke at startup AND high ... I think that your price @ 27500 is not a bad price at all, if you calculate the interest @3.9% assuming its for 5 years, then you are paying about $2813 worth of interest, if someone else buy the millenia now @ $25500 with 7% interest rate for 5 years, then the interest will be around $5172 in interest, calculating the difference in interest is $2359, if you take the $2359 ...
