Hi! I just rebuilt my original 2.7 engine in my 2000 dodge intrepid and am having the exact same problem. Have you come up with a solution yet?
my 1998 did the same exact thing - it was the computer
The 2001 and 1997 are two different types of intrepids. The original LH models (Intrepid/Vision/Concorde) run ended with the 1997 models. The second generation started with the 1998s. The engines are completely different. I think changing the 3.2 into a 1997 would be a lot of trouble. You need to get an engine from one of the first generation models.
I have a 1998 /Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine. It runs if I give it a charge but it knocks while you're driving down the road. . was wondering if it could be a simple fix that I may be overlooking, before I I go ahead and try and find another engine to put in it. I have also been told that the 3.5 and the 3.2 are better ... Read More
hey every one tells me not to get an dodge intrepid cuz of engine failur and did mercedes ever buy out dodge intrepid? If you can find one that's been well-maintained and not too high-mileage, an Intrepid can be a good car. Personally, if I were searching one out, I'd try to find one with the 3.2 or 3.5, as they're better engines than the 2.7. More powerful, almost as economical, ... Read More
I am having the same problem with my 1998 Dodge Intrepid. cannot figure out what the problem is . Not only is it dangerous driving and stalling out at 45mph. It is frustrating spending money when all you can do is eliminate what everyone says is wrong .
The 3.2 is an American engine, built by Chrysler. It's a smaller-displacement, all-aluminum version of the 3.5 that first came out in 1993. The 3.2 put out 225 hp and was used in the Intrepid ES and Concorde LXI models from 1998-2001, and then was replaced by a reduced hp version of the 3.5. Mitsubishi made a 3.0 V-6 that Chrysler used in their minivans, the Dodge Stealth, and some of ... Read More

I'd go with a 3.2 or a 3.5, instead of a 2.7. While the 2.7 in my Intrepid has been reliable, in some situations, such as long mountain grades, putting 3-4 additional passenger in it, etc, it tends to start straining. The 3.2 has 25 more hp and 35 more ft-lb of torque, which makes a big difference. And the 3.5 is better still, putting out anywhere from 234-250 hp, and ... Read More
Hey all, New to the posting on here. Just wanted to put a statement on here, before my Intrepid is GONE!!! I am no stranger to Dodge, I have owned 4. I know that ALL cars have their own little problems, BUT, I can say that this is the last Dodge I will ever own. I bought the car from a Dodge dealer in the Capital District here in Albany, New ... keeping my Trep around as a beater/spare car as it ages, and then getting something newer. I have a feeling though, that my Intrepid, or any modern car for that matter, really isn't going to make a very good "beater". My roommate has a 1998 Tracker, and I was thinking about, when the time comes, swapping cars with him, and having him pay me the difference in value if there is ... Read More

Boy...how do you reply to a message here?!?! LEE1NYC Well, I went for it! $14,000 CDN equates to about $9,300 US. The 68,000 kms equates to about 42,500 miles. The payments are for 60 months at $326 CDN per month ($217 US). To better explain that price to you, $326 CND can buy you about 11 cases of 24 Canadian beers! You have to remember that our beer is much more ... Read More

You Intrepid owners aren't alone. My 98 Durango with only 23K miles has had the regulators and motors replaced 7 times on 3 trips to the dealer. This isn't the same dealer either. I started in Texas and am now in Nebraska. They must use the same design even though I was told the first time that they are an "improved" design. Since I'm here I'll ask a question, especially to ... Read More
