  • 2002 Dodge GC tranny problems - limp mode

Written by: pvatki on Jun 1, 2007 5:47:42 PM

I have a 1999 T & C with 155+k. I have maintained the tranny but not as often as I should. Never had any problems except to "retrain" it recently. I just bought a 02 Dodge Grand Caravan with 83k and autostick. The engine light came on yesterday and limp mode engaged. I just took it to my mechanic today and he said the scan showed up a faulty TCM. I ... Read More

Written by: kkirby on Mar 18, 2006 12:00:32 PM

I want to post this in case anyone is looking for positive feedback on Grand Caravans, model year 1999. (Mine was made in Windsor, Canada.) I bought it "pre-owned" with 24K on it -- it was a fleet vehicle that came to a local Dodge dealership. I compete actively in the sport of dog agility; because of this, I drive alone with my dogs far more than the average number of ... Read More

frogger123 bravely asked for a flurry of opinion: "Does this Forum think that Castrol is one of the best Dino oils?" Who knows? Once upon a time, Castrol, as a European oil, was one of the few oils whose cans indicated it passed obscure European and Japanese test requirements that were more severe (due to overhead cam designs and higher rpm) than those for American cars (due to cam-in-block ohv designs ... Q. I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3 liter engine. Automatic transmission with about 122,000 miles own it for nearly 5 yrs. With an alarm, over the past month, this problem has happened six times. My 1999 Grand Caravan would stall intermittently also. After a fair amount of diagnostic work, at no charge by the dealer, it was found to be a faulty engine computer module. Simply jumpering past this module and then replacing it, allowed th car to start again. The modules costs ~$400 but it was covered by my Federal Emissions Warranty, even though my 7/70 warranty had run out. Good Luck, Ken

MY van is a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport, now with 81000 miles. It has been more reliable than my other much more expensive cars from "premium" brands. It is still my vehicle of choice for long journeys. The only repairs covered under warranty were the battery vacuum tray and the EGR valve. Otherwise, I have routinely maintained it, perhaps fairly meticulously, and it has rewarded my family with cheap, reliable ... Read More

Agree. My 2002 T&C LX door locks do not recess like the door locks formerly did in the 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE; there is no carpet on the front doors between the armrest and the window; no carpet at the bottom of the front doors; the ignition switch no longer has the luminous ring around it in 2002 vs 1999.     These deletions are not smart if DC wants to keep ... Well, I tried to give Chrysler a fair shake. I bought a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport new in '99. The trans had to be rebuilt under warranty at 32,000 miles last September. It currently has 36,167 mile on it. I had it to the dealer last week to cover concerns I had under the warranty before it expired at 36,000 miles. Today the wife comes home and the check engine ... Believe it or not, you know why most of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan has zero problems for at least 25,000 miles, is because DaimlerChrysler in the US hired some Toyota workers, from Kentucky, to build Caravans for only 8 months. DaimlerChrysler is doing that because they want to find out if Chrysler minivans ran a design problem or manufacturing problem. After 8 months, DaimlerChrysler found out it was the ... Read More

The Caravan and Voyager are exactly the same if you compare them side by side with the same option group and options...except for grilles, side trim on some and a few logos. Grand Caravan is same as T&C in certain trim levels. T&C can be equipped to be MORE luxurious than GC. I actually think the Voyager and Town & Country have more attractive grilles than Caravan and Grand Caravan. We ... Read More

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Odyssey LX and Toyota Sienna LE have the same black strips or moldings along the side that you are talking about? If I'm not mistaken, you have to move up to the Odyssey EX, Toyota Sienna XLE, Dodge Grand Caravan EX, the Dodge Grand Caravan ES, or ANY of the Town & Country's to get body colored moldings.
