We are having the same problem with my wife's 2006 PT Cruiser. It is an automatic, so she does not have the option of easily restarting when on the road. I called Santech in Fort Worth and they told me this is compatible, if not better, than the original MOPAR part (5058736AA) which is still on backorder across the country at Chrysler Dealerships. Thanks for the info Maureen. I contacted my state consumer advocates office and the Feds yesterday as well as Chrysler. I'm getting forms to fill out from the state and feds and Chrysler is startting a probe into whats going on. I agree with you 100 percent! My 2006 Touring has always gotten 19-20 city, and 25-even 30 highway. And, I didn't have a 200 mph tail wind, either!

With my 2006 Automatic Touring, I have gotten in the high 20's and even a shade above 30 mpg. I don't do jackrabbit starts or speed. The faster you go above 55-60, The less mpg.

I did, however, purchase a new 2006 PT Cruiser, Limited at invoice, less the $2000.00 rebate and NO added dealer costs, plus it already had been pin-striped, etc. and those costs were also deleted. I had a 2001 Touring and achieved 23-28 MPG. Car had 115,000 when I sold it for a 2006 GT. This HO Turbo gets 17-23, but there I only have about 3,000 on the engine. My 2001 MPG increased/stabilized after 3,000 on it. Looking forward to more improvements on the 2006...

No hard information, but my guess is that changes will be light since 2006 had a heavy update and the platform will apparently be migrating to the AWD capable Caliber platform for '08.
