Buick Century Maintenance and Repair

Well today, Feb 28, 2010, I replaced the Headlight switch. This DID NOT fix the problem. But the black connector plug that plugs into the headlight switch is burnt and melted. Looks like the Black with white stripe wire and the brown wire got hot and melted the plastic. I have a Haynes Manual that covers 1997 to 2002 Century’s and the wiring diagrams are not specific enough for just a ... Read More

  • 1997 Century wiper issue

    Written by: bay220 on Mar 23, 2009 4:29:12 PM

Last year I replaced my wiper motor and all was great until today. On my way to work the wipers stopped working and after removing all the plastic molding I found that the screw that holds the wiper arm gears to the motor came lose. After replacing the screw and putting everything back together, now when the wipers are in timer mode, the wipers pause in the middle of the windshield. ... Read More

  • 1997 Buick Century low beams not working

Written by: cdawley on Mar 16, 2007 7:51:02 PM

I have a 1997 Century. The low beams don't work. I replaced the bulbs and it didn't work. I traced the wiring back to the underhood box and it appears that they are good. Fuses good. Not sure if switch is bad. is there a way to test the switch? High beams work, blinkers work, windshield wipers work. Haven't tried cruise control yet.

The headlights need to come from Regal/Buick models. You can use any headlights on that car from the years 1997-2005, as well as parts. I just bought one for my 97 Century for the driver's side from Ebay. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a salvage yard that you can get parts from.

  • 1997 Buick Century Custom Electrical Problems

Written by: espozito on Jun 7, 2006 1:35:22 PM

I currently have a 1997 Buick Century Custom, which I love and hate all at the same time. I love the ride and the interior, but the car definetely has it's little quirks!!! I originally had problems with my ABS and Emergency brake lights comming on and staying on, but if I turned the car off and then turned it back on they went off. I had the battery replaced and ... • Intake gasket leaks..

Written by: artwis on Feb 1, 2002 3:01:03 PM

We had a 1995 Lumina LS with the 3.1 and no leak. Also 1999 Venture with 3.4 engine which had the leak at 12k but never put a drop on the floor. They caught it when changing the oil etc. Fixed under factory warranty. Just had the intake manifold gasket start leaking on my 1997 Silverado with 5.7 liter engine at 55k. It would leak 3 drops overnight when it was ... Read More

  • I like my Century

    Written by: ferne2000 on Oct 4, 2000 9:28:51 PM

We just purchased a 2000 Century a few weeks ago. Let me tell you, my other car is a 1997 Camry. I like the feel of the Century better. It's more responsive in the steering wheel, it's certainly more plushy and I like the way it handles. It will go 80 before I know it and it corners nicely. I have had the Camry for over a year but I feel ... Read More

Bought a 2000 Century Custom this past July. Has anyone gotten the power driver seat and the 'manual lumbar' on the passenger side as listed on the window sticker? My Toyota Cressida has manual lumber support so I was excited about it. Except Buick messed up and did not put it on mine as listed on the window sticker. Dealer's trying to get Buick to do something about it. Also, the ... Read More

  • Trunk lid bump & Interior

Bdreggors: You're right about the bump being similar to a spoiler, but I would argue whether either one has any real function. Spoilers, as far as I am concerned are simply an expression of style (like the big fins of the 50's). They are derived from race cars that used them for better traction. When the Century was redesigned in 1997, spoilers were at their height in popularity. Buick knew that ... Read More
