You have very good taste. FYI - Car and Driver magazine ran a feature recently re: the best used cars under $20,000. The original 1999 M coupe was dubbed "a prime example of nerd chic: incredibly cool to those in the know." This car is supposedly fun to drive, with plenty of storage space, unlike most two-seaters. That takes the car's utlility off the charts because the drive was my top priority. Honda on the other hand has had an ongoing problem with the automatic transmissions used with their V6 engines, especially those on the Odyssey and larger Acura models. mercedes should stop producing soooooo many new models. jesus! it seems as though every week, poop! out comes a new mb model out of Germany. Has anyone seen the "MST" Rumor on germancarfans.com? They say MB is planning on rolling out a new "sport" crossover, which is more SUV than the GST. It seriously looks like a Nissan Murano. Lately, I've been disapointed with the direction MB, not BMW, is heading ... Read More

Greetings: I am planning on buying a 1999 BMW 750il. Does anyone know how these cars handle in the snow? One of the features in this car is that it has the all season traction control. Does this really help in the handling of the car in snowy conditions? I'm a big fan of fwd because of its better handling in snow versus the real wheel drive. Will the ASC really ... Read More

"In your opinion, what is Build Quality vs Reliablity? Are they mutually exclusive?" The short answer is no they aren't mutually exclusive. Lexus blends them very well, on the whole probably better than anyone else. I'm just guessing here, but I think you knew this, but wanted me to admit that? Anyway...with Audi they are exclusive traits. When you open the door of a A8, A6 or A4 you feel the ... Read More

It still doesn't make a difference if the LS430's "Euro" option doesn't cost anything because the S430 or S500 is still going to cost more anyway, so whats the difference? You're not comparing cars of equal specification. Thats like me saying the E500 Sport outhandles the regular LS430, that simply isn't a fair comparision. I really think you're making to broad of a statement when it comes to the press. They ... Read More

Interesting question, as we've discussed this before in this thread. I don't think we'll ever see those models here because of their price relative to the top line V8 versions of the 5-Series, A6, E-Class, S-Type, and the single car that bridges the gulf in between..the LS430. A six-cylinder of the 7-Series just wouldn't fly now, neither would an A8. The BMW is way too heavy and Audi has worked very ... Read More

First off lets startoff with Acura, their styling doesn't scream sporty but the designs have always aged beautifully. Infinti-definately great designs but the M45 is not my cup of tea. Volvo: Still too boxy. The C70 was their best styled model until they put it on the shelf. Audi-definately the styling leader. Chrysler-I wasn't too thrilled with the latest refreshening of the Sebring Coupe and Convertible. The Stratus Coupe looks exactly ... Read More

Curious now that we have had some time to digest the 7 series and the Z4, what people think.... Historically, BMW has tried to move all its models slowly over time to give it continuity and to protect the resale value of older cars. But lately they have needed to widen the differences because by 1999, the 3,5, and 7 looked so identical to each other (same sausage of different sizes). ... Read More

Well I've always said that BMW would have had a true "segment buster" if it weren't for the styling. I too at times think it's good looking car, but then I see one with the 18 inch wheels in the wrong color and then yuck(!). I keep seeing them in black with the 19's in chrome, makes a big difference. The car does have "presence" but I'm not it's not a ... Read More

I would greatly appreciate some of your experienced opinions on what routine maintenance and anticipated repairs should be expected on a car like this. I am thinking the best way to go is through a BMW dealer and get the Certified Warranty, but perhaps it is not worth the additional costs. Indeed, the 740i Sport version was one of BMW's better productions....a 1999 Edmunds auto reviewer proposed it as possibly the "finest sedan in existence" during that period....if one looks at the steering wheel and sport wheels of later 740 Sport models, the M badging is discreetly profiled, as that division of BMW was reponsible to the vehicle's performance upgrading....note that the iL version of the Sport package was purely for the ... I have read with great interest much of the feedback from the "Sedan" segment related to the 740.
