Definately not a lemon!

I have owned my S40 since it was brand new 3years now. True I have replaced my headlights, break pads and have had some oil leaks, but all was covered under warranty. Prior to my Volvo I drove and loved my BMW, but I had to downsize, yet wanted to have a car with a nice reputation and I think pricewise, the S40 was the right choice. Overall, I like my little Volvo, its quick and peppy and when its clean and waxed it looks rather nice. With a new baby (three kids total), I will admit its rather tight in the back. Two more years to pay off and I will consider the new SUV by VOLVO. Have some faith!

S40 - The Brake Eater

I write this on the eve of my 45,000 "tune up." Based on past experience, this is when they tell me that I need to replace all of my brakes and rotors, even though these were just replaced at 39,500. I'm so fed up with this car. The brakes, which I've replaced 3 times, cost about $500 each time. Also, a new warning light greets me about once a month. Those of you happy with your car are in for a rude awakening when you realize how much this piece of junk has depreciated in a short period of time. Check out Consumer Reports' "used cars to avoid list."

I bought the car 4 years ago and after 1 year all the problems started, I nearly replaced half of the car about 35 parts estimated cost about $4,500 in parts (bough for $9,500) a lot changed myself to save some money. Every time I changed something I kept telling myself oh after changing this it would run good without problems. So now the first chance I will get I am getting rid of it. I have another car, toyota and no problems. I will be getting toyota as soon as volvo is gone. I feel bad for the next person who is going to get it. Car still have problems and no mechanic can figure it out, why can't it start right away, you have to crank on it for a while. JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had previously owned a 1987 BMW 325 series and LOVED it! I was the original owner (13 years) and it had 270,000 miles on it. I was sure that I would buy another BMW. A friend of mine was buying a pre-owned VOLVO and he saw the S40 in the showroom and immediately thought of me. I instantly liked it. I now have almost 60,000 miles on the car. I have replaced the brakes twice and the headlights 2 or 3 times, the battery (April 2003) and tires (May 2003). Overall, I am very pleased with the car and I hope to keep it another 7 years.
