SE 4Motion is the sweet spot for this attractive S

Edmunds review is very consistent with my view. Except I find my 27 combined MPG to be excellent. This SUV weighs in at 500lbs heavier than all of the competitors! That's overlooked by many. And there will be a small MPG penalty. German cars tend to be the heaviest. And I do agree that the engine turbo lag from stop can be a bit too much. But it does accelerate from 50-70 exceptionally well. Interior roominess is remarkable. NVH excellent. This is my first VW and I am very happy with it.

Better vehicle than reviewed

I own a 2018 Tiguan SE 4motion and I am totally happy with it. Yes, in the beginning there were some recalls on some minor issues, but every single one was fixed immediately. The acceleration was a bit sluggish in the standard drive---but pulling the lever back it changes into sport drive and it will GO if you hit the gas pedal. Want more? Get a Porsche. This is not a sports car, but a roomy, family friendly SUV. I hooked up a loaded U-Haul trailer to it and drove 2,000 miles from NC to Kansas and my Tiguan climbed through the Virginia mountains smoothly with little shifting. The mpg was 19 mpg (mind the trailer!!) On the way back, without the trailer, the average speed of 65-70 miles/hour on cruise control yielded 34 mpg!! So, NO-- it is not thirsty as described in some "reviews".. After 2 years of ownership I still go the longer routes to my destination because I just LOVE the ride in it. And YES- I buy another one in a heartbeat. Actually, after my son rode with me, he bought one as well and he is as happy as I am.

Our orange 2018 VW has had ZERO issues since we bought her (Cecille) new. She now has 50k. The interior is very spacious - one of my favorite parts. My 6' husband has plenty of leg room, and he finds it very comfortable. The heated seats are always a plus. The infotainment screen is huge, and I use it every time we get in the car. I love how the dashboard is very simple-not too cluttered. The only negatives are the start/stop button that you have to hit every time you start the car up and the turbo LAG. This car has zero spunk, and I really wish VW would fix that.

We purchased a new 2018 Tiguan SE with 4Motion. Nothing but issues and recalls. Not to mention a horrible dealership service department. From leaking coolant to a completely worn down rotor at 10k miles. In and out of the dealership what seems like every other month. Finally traded it in, took a big hit on the trade in but well worth it.

Update: 149k miles and one issue out of extended 10yr/125k warranty on ignition wiring harness unfortunately. $800 to install $90 part. Trouble free otherwise with no creaks or rattles and still about 30MPG mostly highway driving. I found the EPA MPG peculiar however after reading a few reviews it seemed to do better then advertised 22city/27highway. Well over 1800 miles I am getting 29.7 MPG with 60% highway driving so not sure where the figure came from. Don't believe them. I find the vehicle to have adequate power but more importantly comfortable and very quiet for the class. I like the plain interior and controls/touch screen are dead easy to use. No flash or frills just works. I also like the light grey leatherette seating that cleans well and is pretty comfortable.
