2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
All the zip you need to pass on a two lane highway. If you get stuck behind a semi going 60, you’ll be at 100 by the time you pass their cab. I shopped a lot of small SUVs and hatchbacks before purchasing the 2016 SportWagen. The deciding factors were: Service Department. My husband owned a VW first, and the service department was always impressive. Safety—this car is solid and it has … all the airbags. Large windows—small blind spots. Storage—the back seats fold down almost flat, unlike almost every other small SUV or hatchback I looked at. I have a small business which requires hauling liquid and boxes. The added bonus is it’s great for car camping when the kids take over the tent. There are other bonuses as well: on a flat highway it gets 40 mpg. Going uphill fuel efficiency takes a huge dive, but you make it up on the trip down. It has great zip in city traffic. Rear camera for parallel parking and backing out of tight parking garages, I will never go without again. The downsides: road noise, and after replacing the windshield and getting new tires road noise was even worse, but not sure which to blame. Nobody makes seats as comfortable as the Americans. For road trips, you’ll want lumbar support and a pillow. It has pretty responsive handling, but not a tight turning radius. It’s a lot of fun to drive, for a station wagon.
