2019 Volkswagen e-Golf
Volkswagon put a lot of thought into this scooter rated with a 125 mile range. Handling is excellent with battery pack under the floor. Steering is well damped, responsive and accurate. My wife and I value touches like adaptive cruise control and a backup camera hidden under the swing up VW tailgate logo that keeps it clean. Most of our local driving and the total miles in our fleet is … done in this car. Since delivery, our charging has been through a switched 120v outlet only. We don't use the car every day and overnight charging gives it sufficient range for our customary needs. I would love to drive it further, it is such a joy. It has GPS which identifies charging points on a center screen but so far we have deferred to a Subaru Forester for longer trips which is not nearly as pleasurable. I think the e-Golf would make it over the pass from Sisters to Silverton, OR okay but coming home would need an overnight charge there and another hour charge in Detroit to make it to the top of the pass. Once it is at the top we found when we brought it home from the Salem dealer the regen will carry it to Sisters in a brisk manner. Mountain driving does use up the battery pretty quickly and A/C and heating and defrost can use up about 20% of the claimed range. Other pluses of the car include heated front seats with power adjustment, 60/40 fold down rear seat back with its own fold down center arm rest.
