1998 Lexus ES 300
Idk why Lexus ruined the look of the sedans. It had amazing power for a 4 Cylinder engine. Actually 4 any size luxury car it was difficult to feel the speed. I was pulled over a couple times 4 speeding, but the officers never wrote tickets, after I explained the situation. The no skid suspension can take a steep winding road and you never feel a need to lean even at 50 mph. The stock … stereo/6cd player is as good as my Bose system inside the house. If Lexus went back to a body type like this one (including raising the rear slightly, giving it a race car look without scaring away older drivers) I would buy 2. I miss mine and regret not having it to this day. But as long as Lexus keeps turning out unappealing cars I won't buy again. They could call it a commemorative addiction. 1 of the best things about it, is the AC. I lived in Arizona and the day I went looking was over 105 degrees. I asked them could I drive 1 parked in the back lot and they allowed my request. It was probably 135 degrees in the car or higher. The sales person had to drive it off the lot and then I was allowed to drive. I also kicked the AC on and within a half of a block it was very cool on its way to being cold. I had done the rounds looking at BMWs and Mercedes and both the ACs failed completely. At the time I was driving from place to place and stopping just long enough to make the car blistering hot but it always cooled off in the matter of a minute! Of all the cars I have owned this was my absolute favorite. The bumper to bumper warranty was perfection for someone who doesn't notice tiny noises, but they always caught even the smallest beginning of a issue when they called me to arrange a time to change out the fluids and detail the car. Even for a oil change they had loaner ready for me to go on with my day. I was never inconvenienced even a little, no matter the situation. I only had 1 problem and it was my fault. I took the lighter out of the car so people would not try to smoke in my car. I used the ash tray for change and I kept accidentally dropping a penny into the lighter socket, which would short out the left turn signal. Completely my fault but they fixed it anyway, no charge.
I had to drive to a convention I was speaking at the morning after I picked it up from having the windows darkend as much as the law allowed and I invited a couple of people who I knew were going to attend, to ride share the 5 hour drive north & after arriving I promptly fell down a flight of stairs. I was hardly awake for most of the remaining days bc of the pain pills I was given and the 2 ppl I invited to ride with me, practically got in a fist fight over who would drive back.. The next day 1 of the 2 went and bought the exact car I had. Color and all. I was happy he got such a great car but I kinda wished he could have at least picked a different color. I really miss it. Pay attention Lexus. Everyone I talk cars with says the '98, '99 sedans and the 96 coupe ( I also had 1 in pearl white) were the hottest looking and best running cars available. Why would you change the best looking & running car so dramatically that I no longer notice them? Not to mention you closed your Eastside location, .so I can only believe the unappealing design you started making, has been a financial problem for you, or you wouldn't need to close a entire dealership. Go back to the better designs. Also the spare tire had a chrome wheel on a full size tire matching the 4 on the car.. I never had a flat tire but the dealer said to call and if they were open they would rescue me. I never learned to change a tire bcuz I couldn't get the lug nuts off, so there was no point to learning what came after that. Someone please tell Lexus they are throwing money away. They could call them commemerative addictions.
