2004 Hyundai Tiburon
I bought a V6 6-speed for my daughter who just turned 16 for around $2500. She has just learned how to drive a manual, but I've been driving around a lot and am totally loving it. I've owned a Mazda RX7, Lexus GS400, BMW M3, and Audi S4 and this is my favorite. Yes, it's not as powerful as some of those, but the fun factor is definitely higher. To quote Car and Driver, "Never has the … disparity been greater between the capabilities of a modern fast car and what is legally possible." I have a strong past speeding tickets and traffic court and this car lets me have a lot of fun without consistently tripling the legal limit. I drive it like it's stolen all the time and it seems to love it. With the V6, even as a 16-year-old car, it is still faster than most other cars in my area of PA. She has little incentive to drive at all, so I may keep the car and buy her something else.
