I've only had my new 2012 Yaris 3 DR LE a couple of weeks but so far I am impressed. Has good visibility: sits a little higher than my 2001 Corolla LE - gas mileage pretty good, according to the display I'm averaging 33 mpg, all city driving...Driver's seat very comfortable. I love the design of the dashboard/controls, all easy to reach and good-sized control knobs. The two-tone dash (black and soft grey) looks expensive and instead of being perfectly smooth it has a little bit of texture to it. Mine is the Wave Line Pearl color, a light blue. Tire are pretty good quality, Goodyear Assurance. I haven't sat in the rear yet but it looks to be fairly roomy. Handling is good.

i bought a 2014 L 4sp auto trans with 42,000 miles from hertz in 5/16 as a snowbird car. i was looking for reliable, simple and fun mostly city transport. my choice boiled down to either a french made yaris or better equipped mexican made nissan versa note at same $9k price point. i chose yaris for its simple reliability. i actually like the retro crank windows, and lack of bells & whistles, happily reminds me of what i drove almost 40 years ago. i added a plug and play oem cruise control kit that i found on yarisworld.com, as the L comes internally prewired for it. i really like it as a city car, added cruise control makes a world of difference on highway. pros: great visibility, tight turning radius, simple, roomy interior seating, mpg 38 highway/32 city. cons: steering wheel doesnt telescope, a bit noisy at 70mph (lacks 5th gear and tire choice), no tachometer. note on hertz experience: i was informed afterwards that, despite a clean autocheck, this yaris had its front bumper replaced. in a heated discussion at hertz i learned that bumpers are excluded from hertz's warranty (in very fine print) and hertz self-insures so non airbag accidents dont get reported. the car is very sound and solid, but discovering this anomaly after the purchase was deeply troubling. update 12/2018. all is fine, no issues, just changed oil twice. perfect suburban car.

Limited Cargo room, but if you are smart you can get everything in. I hauled 4 different peoples sets of camping gear and luggage down to the Keys, and got everything in. Easy to find Parking because it fits in small spaces. This car has a lot of pep for a 4 cylndar car and great on gas! I have driven it to NY and back to FL several times now, and it is a very reliable car. I get about 35-37 MPG Hwy and about 27 City. Its a great commuter car. It is a snap together vehicle made with some plastic parts, but it has 9 air bags...

I bought this car a week ago to replace a 2007 Kia Rio sedan. First positive impressions: nice dark grey color and body style, motor sounds better and back passenger spaces is roomier than some other economy cars test driven. Initial negative impressions: Speedometer only indicates 20-40-60 with numerical markings, 10-30-50 with hashes, and no markings at all on the fives. The side mirrors are so small and poorly shaped that if they are the slightest bit out of adjustment (or if the driver leans forward an inch) rear view is severely compromised which is made worse by the fact that the center rear view is mostly blocked by huge back seat head rests. In the Molded Places to Put Stuff category, the Yaris is an utter failure. The glove box barely holds the owners manual (and doesn't lock), the cup holders...well, take your pick--you can have two sixteen-ounce water bottles, or you can have one foam cup, or you can have a phone charger in the socket above the cup holder. Other seemingly random misshapen pits--two above the glove box, one to the left of the instrument panel, and one behind the cup holder--have proven as useless as they appear to be. The single front wiper is annoying in the beginning but doesn't seem so bad after a few rains. Despite these shortcomings which were apparent during the test drive, I chose the car for reputed reliability, price, and MPG. After 400 miles of mostly city driving I've found a few more things to like and even love. It handles well. The cargo capacity utterly amazed on a trip to the local wholesale club. We bought the usual list and the kids did not have to ride home with their feet resting on a bag of cat food or case of V-8 and assorted bags and trays piled high on their laps as before in the Rio, and there was spare room for a few more cases of water. The worst of the worst so far is that at least this particular Yaris isn't living up to its MPG rating. Not even close. As a semi-dedicated hypermiler, I usually got a little better than the Rio was rated at, even with the A/C running and even after 100,000 miles. Between the first and second fill-ups this car averaged a very disappointing 26.6 MPG. Would I choose something else knowing what I know today? Yeah, maybe.

I have had more issues regarding ENGINE OIL FILL LEVEL than anyone should have to deal with. The OIL DIP STICK is totally shiny and smooth on both sides, and mechanics CONSTANTLY overfill my oil when it is changed. Toyota needs to address this issue! I have had to return my Yaris 8 times to the mechanic after checking it when I got home. THIS IS A STUPID OVERSIGHT ON TOYOTA'S PART, and it shouldn't happen! Update: I still love my Yaris. Still having issues with the oil dipstick, but Goodyear (where oil is routinely changed) is double checking that specified quantity of oil is being provided, but due to the design of the dipstick,I can't check my oil levels with any degree of certainty between oil changes. I've never gotten used to the clutch. I've driven a manual transmission for 35 years, and this is the oddest clutch I've ever used.......nothing like the smoothness of my Toyota Tercel. But I STILL enjoy driving my Yaris. But I wouldn't buy another one because of the clutch and the oil dipstick. But I'll definitely buy another Toyota for sure. July 2022 Update: My Toyota Yaris remains trouble-free. The clutch still is an aggravation, but I'm living with it. The dipstick is still a concern. But ownership remains trouble-free. The engine runs smoothly and QUIETLY. There is still not a single rattle anywhere in the car.It remains to be the finest Toyota I've ever owned. I continue to get 40.3 to 40.4 MPG!\ July 2023 update. Still the Yaris is trouble free. Just spent $800.00 on a new set of tires (Bridgestone), and I'm all set for another year of trouble-free driving. I'm still getting 40+/- mpg. This is a great little car and despite the oil dipstick design and that really odd-acting clutch, I still enjoy owning my Toyota Yaris. 2024 Update: Another trouble free year of driving my 2012 Yaris. I changed the oil every 3000 miles, used QT gas regularly, and my Toyota continues to serve my auto needs. The only repair I have made to this car since when I bought it brand new in Mobile, AL, is to replace the windshield wiper arm. I did that 3 years ago. January 2025 update. Still driving the Yaris daily, and still no problems,. The only maintenance I've ever done is change the oil every 3000 miles, and two years ago I had the winshield wiper linkage replaced because the sun had deteriorated the plastic/\.. Last year, I had my ORIGINAL brakes cleaned. NOT REPLACED. I was told I still have over 50% left on the brakes. The car was purchased in December 2012, and right now it has 110,000 miles on it. And it still looks brand new--shines like a new penny. July 2025: Still driving my Yaris, still lovin' it. Mileage has dropped to 39.6 MPG. The engine still runs nearly silent. Same clutch, same brakes, same everything under the hood. I bought a new set of floor mats two weeks ago. Figured after 115,000 miles, I needed a new set to get me started on the next 115,000 miles.
