There’s good news and not so good news

The style, the tech and the awesome fuel economy make this a standout. I would have bought one were it not for two issues. First, you can’t take the middle row seats out. They fold into a 20 inch wide blob as high as the front seats. Floor space is limited to 76”, not the typical 96”. This was a killer for me BUT, the front seat was woefully uncomfortable, compared with my 19 Odyssey. It was like sitting on a bench. I expect it will sell but am sticking with our Idyssey for now. Really disappointed.

Maybe my friends won't make fun of my new mom van

I was tired of my friends making fun of me driving my old Town and Country so I went to the Toyota dealership to purchase a 2020 Highlander Hybrid. After a test drive I knew it wouldn't work for my family because I have 3 kids and we do carpool, sleepovers and long road trips. The Highlander is just too small if you have more than 2 kids! I was about to walk away when my eye snagged on this BEAUTIFUL 2021 Sienna! When I found out it was a hybrid, I knew immediately that I would purchase! First, the ride is very smooth and quiet. I have an XLE and it is full of all the bells and whistles that I'm used to in my T&C. The only thing that's missing is my DVD player. The technology in this vehicle is amazing and I learn something new every day. So far I've had the van for a week and a half and I'm getting 35 mpg, which is much better than I expected. I can even drive in electric mode only, but it cuts off if you drive more than 25 mph (so I only use this as I'm cruising in the neighborhood). I also like that I have a removable seat on the 2nd row, so if I'm carrying an extra (small size) kid, I have an 8 passenger van. It was easy to remove so right now I have the captains chair mode, which makes it easier for the kids to get to the 3rd row. I agree with the Edmunds review. The braking on this van is weird and is still a learning process for me. But I love the way this van looks (honestly it looks like a cross between a Highlander and a Camry from the rear) and I get a lot of head turns. There aren't too many of these on the road, yet, so it's cool to be one of the first! Again, with the technology, the radar cruise control is amazing. Once you set it, the van basically drives itself. It steers you around curves and automatically changes the speed depending on the traffic conditions. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase as I normally only buy used vehicles. I'm hoping this van lasts at least 10 years!

still has too much road noise

I test drove a used 2017 limited for $29K and a new 2021 XLE and Limited Sienna yesterday in Southern California. I thought the Limited would be the best Toyota van comparison for road noise between the previous generation and new generation Sienna's. We are unhappy with our 09 Odyssey EX because of road noise and pealing paint issues and we were willing to spend almost 50K if the new Sienna was quiet. It was slightly quieter than our Odyssey but I could not hear a noticeable difference between the 2 Sienna's. We looked at an XLE and a Limited model, did not see any additional insulation under the hood or firewall between the 2 models. After driving them all, could not justify spending 50K on a new van. The Current Odyssey has an active noise cancelling sound feature, that will force us to consider that new model even though the complaints are numerous on many different problems. We were trying to go back to Toyota after having 2 Odyssey's, After having a 87 Toyota van with the engine under the front seats and a 93 Previa we liked very much. I have had 2 Tacoma's that were flawless, Toyota is a good brand but seems to forget about noise control. We travel 1000's of miles each summer with our grandkids, they have their video's and games to play, and i don't want to listen to tire and road noise for 700 miles a day.

Major safety issue

I have the 2021 Toyota Sienna. Since day 1 the 3rd row seats bounce up and down while driving. They rise so much that if I had to brake suddenly then the seats could likely launch forward into upright position. Imagine the result if a dog or child’s arm was in the way of this heavy seat flying forward. This is a major safety issue and I am shocked that Toyota hasn’t addressed this. I have reported to the dealer as well as Toyota headquarters. The dealer told me to weigh down the seats with cases of water. Headquarters told me that engineers are aware of the problem and are working on a fix- that was 10 months ago. After the Toyota floor mat fiasco I’m very surprised that they haven’t taken this seriously. This seriously safety issue overshadows anything that I like about this van.

I've bought this van with the xle package and it's great on gas, comfortable as I was expected. But I have couple complaint : the new design of the middle "bridge console" between the front seats. It's killing the flexibility of moving in between the front seats. Also you cannot get to the driver seat from the passenger side door. Big issue for some people and I am one of them. The other thing is the front arm rests (the used to be attached to the seat in previous generations) are not attached to the front seats anymore. They are now attached to the middle console and not adjustable as before. They are fixed. It's hard for the driver to reach things on the floor by passenger seat because of there fixed arm rests. It's very uncomfortable and I hope that toyota will change this in the near future.
