only one serious problem
this is a great vehicle. just got back from a 3500 mile drive to Canada and it performed wonderfully. even had some impressive off road moments on the rocky "beaches" of Nova Scotia. the ltd has a good stereo, otherwise I recommend the standard w/the 6 cyl. got the dvd which quieted the kids less than I had hoped, but it is impressive, especially the audio quality. got good mileage @ 25. serious problem: back window noise. Plus, only average rollover protection is another definite minus. but, still a vehicle I recommend highly.
SMackey
The Highlander does not handle like a typical SUV it handles more like a larger car model. The cruise control, widshiled wipers and lights are all at your finger tips without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

Great mileage
I'm getting 21mpg in town (who ever heard of a car that gets 20% better gas mileage than the sticker?) Great rear seat comfort. Good ride. I couldn't be happier!
improvements
overall I am very happy with the vehicle
IT BEATS ALL THE COMPETITION
After checking all the SUV models in the mid-size range, realized that the Highlander could't be matched. Just took a long trip and was VERY pleased with the performance. Just wished I had purchased the Toyota line years ago, would have save myself a lot of problems. A GREAT SUV, that ride like a luxury car.
