Good Car, BUT Early Failure of Power Steering
Purchased new May, 2019, have only 900 miles to date, and twice received in-car alert that the... power steering electronics had malfunctioned and MUST hold on to steering wheel... Take Car To Dealer. Took car to dealer and after a review, was advised that the malfunction code was cleared and I was good to go. The next day when my wife was driving in expressway traffic the malfunction kicked in and she lost power steering and had to maneuver to the side to avoid an accident. Got the car to the dealer and was informed that electronic power steering module needs to be replaced. WOW!!! Schedule to pickup today but my wife is fearful about driving it. Dilemma!!!
Shifting delay issue solved!!!
Test drive was fine, but it was basically all freeway. Bought it with 5 miles on it. On the way home the shifting lag became pronounced. Acceleration was jerky and the lag made it dangerous. Went back to Toyota Irvine Service dept. Which was a nightmare in & of itself. They were no help, rude and 4 hours later they told me it was normal. Offered us to test drive another and see that they are all that way. After zero help from Toyota I tried anything and everything to fix the issues. It turns out the lag and jerky shifting is due to the traction control system. If you turn off traction control using the button on the dashboard left of the steering wheel. The car drives how you expect a Camry should. It shifts smoothly and has a more aggressive acceleration response. I just want Toyota to come up with a permanent solution so I don't have to disable traction control each time I start the car.

Beautiful Car with transmission problems
Have had 4 Camry's going back to 1993. Each one better than the previous one. I purchased a 2019 to replace a 2002 I purchased new. The new camry's are beautiful and that alone and the camry reputation will cause it to be one of the top sellers but buyer beware. These new models - beginning with the 2018 have issues with acceleration. There is a delay when you accelerate, say from a red light or stop sign or have to slow in traffic and want to speed up again. This is not a minor issue. It makes the car no fun to drive at all and I usually try to drive our other car to avoid driving the Camry. I would think this could be very dangerous. There have been muliple occasions when I have been making a left turn across traffic and the car did not go when I pressed on the gas pedal. It sits there a second or two and then jerks and then suddenly goes. Not smooth at all. On several occasions I have tried to quickly make a turn when traffic is approaching only to have the car stall and then when I decided I better not make the turn since the stall - the car jerks forward. Going to cause accidents. Have been to Toyota 3 times about it. The bottom line is they are aware of the issue but there is no fix and so they will only tell you that the car is operating as normal. Off the record they admit the problem and on your service receipt it will say - normal operation - no problem found. Very frustrating and I have seen many many comments with people stating the same problem. It's hard to believe Toyota has not addressed the issue.

Great Car With A Two Distinct Shortcomings
This car is now 2 & 1/2 years old. It's been mechanically flawless. No problems. Average gas mileage since purchase is 37.3 over 25000 miles. Yes, we drive conservatively and the 25000 mulea includes over 5000 miles of steady interstate driving, which boosts the average mpg. I purchased a 2019 Camry XSE about 6 weeks ago. The dealer delivered the car for $26,500 or $6200 under sticker. I traded a 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring which I loved with 44K trouble free miles. After driving the car a little over 3000 miles, I have enough experience with the car to provide an objective review. Ok, here's the deal. The Camry is a good car, with two noteworthy shortcomings. The Camry seats are very comfortable; a little more so than the Mazda. The dash provides a lot of information. As many others have reported, the electronics stink. This is the first shortcoming. My 2017 Highlander has better electronics. The downloadable Navigation is useless. Just use your phone. The stereo on the other hand is fine. The panoramic sunroof is really nice. The a/c keeps the car freezer cold, and I live in Florida. It really cranks out freezer cold air. The ride is comfortable, but not plush & isolated. The Mazda had a slightly better ride. That's because the SE & XSE come with low profile tires that do not help isolate passengers from road imperfections. The trade off is better handling. The LE & XLE trims come with a more plush suspension, thicker tires, and a plusher suspension. But my wife & I liked the look of the XSE better and were willing to forego isolation for appearance & handling. Both cars handle very well. The Mazda tracked well in turns and the Toyota seems up to the task as well. The second shortcoming is the "way" the Camry accelerates. This could be a deal breaker for some. Mind you, the car is not slow. Acceleration is just not smooth, linear, & immediate, like in the Mazda. Step on the gas pedal lightly and the Camry barely moves. It almost feels like it is hesitating. Step on the pedal firmly & the car takes off with some verve. Trying to find a middle ground is not an easy task. The 8-speed transmission, which shifts smoothly, has 3 settings: economy, normal & sport. If you use"economy", the car feels lethargic from a stop. I haven't used "sport". In "normal" mode, the car requires a firm step on the gas pedal to get it moving. I'm still not 100% used to it, but I'm better than I was the first week or two. On the plus side, this new 8-speed automatic provides astonishing gas mileage. I drive conservatively, and, of course, this helps. 2000 of the 3000 miles I have driven were accumulated on a trip to New York & back to Florida. Driving north, I went through the mountains, coming home I took I-95. I got roughly 44 miles per gallon. My best tank was 45.2 & my poorest was 39.9. The 39.9 included 100 miles of NYC driving. The car EASILY gets 600 miles on a 16 gallon tank when being driven at 70mph. This fuel economy can be achieved on the LE & XLE trims while enjoying a more plush ride. I think Toyota would benefit significantly from improving the electronics system and doing something with the 8-speed transmission to make it more linear in operation while maintaining this outstanding fuel economy. Personally, I could care less about the downloadable navigation. I have a Garmin or I can use my phone. But the acceleration issue may be a problem for some drivers. I suggest a focused test drive for potential buyers.

Gorgeous Camry, I love it. But......
I'm in love with my new car. I'm 22 years old and It's my first purchase and I'm more than satisfied. It's fun and easy to drive, especially when it's been on the road for awhile. It rides over bumps smoothly, though I wish it was smoother and the engine noise is also subtle; however, I do wish it was a little more quieter when sitting idle. There is also a delay when shifting and accelerating. I can imagine it can be dangerous when switching lanes and merging. I can feel the car downshift and idle as well. I've driven a stick shift so I can definitely notice an idle engine. It also takes a second or two to accelerate when pressing on the gas. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the ECO fuel economy setting or not but it's noticeable. The exterior is gorgeous, especially when looking at it during the night time. I have the super white exterior color and it's a beauty to look at. The interior is.. Elegant. Subtle. It has a very calming feel to it. I have the black interior btw. One thing that does need improvement though is Entune. If you have an iPhone, you do not need EnTune. I do so it doesn't bother me much but when I did briefly use it, it's useless. There's a lot Toyota can do with it but right now, use CarPlay. And if you don't have an iPhone, you're better off texting and driving rather than dealing with all the issues I've read with using Entune. Kidding but not really. Don't text and drive. I would love for remote start to be included for a $24,000 car. Or at least the Entune remote start. It would've been awesome. One last thing, the three setting gear shift (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT), I feel should be included on all trims. But in all, I do like my car and enjoy driving it. I recommend it for all, especially iPhone users lol. Thanks for those who read. February 4, 2021. I still have my Camry and it’s still a very good car with great gas mileage. But I’m dying to trade it in. I think this will probably be my first and only Camry that I’ll ever own. I’m currently sitting at 29,000 miles and have yet to have any issues with the car. Never had to take it in, no leakage, blew out tire, no scratches or dents so it held up pretty well. The transmission is still weird. It still idles at a certain MPH and the car itself is a little.. boring. I’d recommend leasing this vehicle. As it’s value decreases more than I thought. You’ll enjoy it for 1-2 years then you’ll get bored and want something new. November 14, 2022. I traded my car in for a V8 Camaro a few months back. Haven’t looked back since lol.
