Most Reliable Car Ever Built

Having purchased five Hondas, and as good as Hondas are, I must say that I certainly don't feel that the Camry gives up anything in the way of handling to my 2004 Accord Coupe, but I have gained a much smoother and quieter Lexus-like ride. This car is just so easy to drive and the ergonomics are tops. Best car for the money in my opinion. I should also mention that since I've owned the Camry (April 2001), I have not had one single problem. Put the superb Nokian all season tires on this car and the Camry sticks to the ground like glue in rain or snow. The 2001 four cylinder feels somewhat underpowered around town (especially after driving the 6-cylinder 2004 Accord Coupe with 245hp), but once you get moving, especially on the highway, the refinement of the engine really shows. 90 miles per hour on the highway and this engine is as smooth as silk.

I have this Toyota from 2001 , never misses a beat change oil , timing belts and it looks like it will run forever . I drive out of state ever weekend and it runs like a pure monster ...proud of this car and will not sell it doubt anyone will buy with that much mileage anyhow.

The bad bits first; the Camry is so bland to look at, it's almost a stealth vehicle. It's equally bland inside. Possibly the most beige car in the history of the world. The driver's seat lacks adjustability and takes some getting used to. The CE version that I have does not have remote locking and cruise control. For the first time in 20 years, I have to key my car open. Now for the good bits; this car is surprisingly engaging to drive. Nimble, surefooted handling with crisp, well weighted & balanced steering. The 4 cylinder 2.2 engine is not as punchy or as refined as the 24 valve twin cam V6 units I drove for years, but it's lively and responsive. More importantly, this relatively simple engine is ultra reliable. And it's easy to work on because it's well laid out with plenty of room - not that I've needed to do anything. Also, it is a non-interference engine, so timing belt failure will not cause disaster. And lastly, it's fuel economy is excellent. It's a perfect commuting car. The aircon is ice cold, the transmission silky smooth. It had done 131k when I bought it, now up to 153k. No issues other than the passenger side external door coming off. Update: car is now up to 170k miles. I replaced the rear shocks, springs and mounts using pre-assembled Gabriel Guardian units. The job was really easy. Fitting them took 2 hours, the most fiddly part of the job was removing the interior seats and trim to get at the mounting bolts. Cost of parts $250 This car now handles like it's new. I also replaced the thermostat at 160k $75 for metal housing, thermostat and coolant. Job time, 15 minutes thanks to the time engine layout. The more I drive this little gem, the more I love it.

I bought this car used with around 60,000 miles on it. I'm now at just over 110,000 and not having any problems with it at all. I got fog lamps placed on it as well as aftermarket cruise control. I have a 5-speed manual and it responds great. It only has a 4 cylinder in it so in any race I end up losing but it handles very nicely on the highway for 16 hour drives and doesn't cost much in maintenance except for a few things that that have needed to be replaced, but doesn't seem bad at 110,000 and still runs clean and smooth. I wish it would hurry up and break down so I could justify going to get a Tacoma truck now.

Good Car

This car never failed me in mechanical ways. The tires that they give have no grip at all. On snow and rain you slide all over the place. I wish they had ABS optional. Also traction control wil be nice. If it had two of those options this car will be perfect for the price and quality of the car.
