Annoyance on the highway
Redesigned exterior in 2003 is an improvement over prior L-Series. Build quality is good. L300 ride is taut and performance is more than adequate. Trunk is very large. Transmission shift points at highway speeds need to be changed. Very annoying when using cruise control. Wiper blades have a short life and start skipping on the windshield quickly. New dashboard gauge lighting is not good in all lighting situations. Overall, a nice car at a reasonable price with a few annoyances that could easily be corrected by Saturn.
Monumental Flaws
I have been immensely diasppointed with my purchase of this vehicle. The sunroof motor was inoperable when I first bought it. The extended warranty I bought has paid for the following: transmission repairs, new horn, fuel pump, bushing, air conditioner condenser, radio as my CD would not eject, gasket replacement, power steering rack replacement. I will either trade this in for a Toyota or Honda or buy another extended warranty. I will never own another Saturn or GM for the rest of my life. My parents had better Saturns when they first came out. I obviously bought a lemon!

Saturn L300
I test drove many of the more expensive foreign cars and the comfort, power and ride quality are all very close to the L300 which I finally purchased. The dealership service has been excellent for oil changes. The looks of the L300 (it has all the available extras), is very stylish and I've had nothing but favorable comments about the car. The car handles well and it has lots of power for passing when on two lane highways.
Glad I made the right choice
The car is quite zippy, something I did not expect. The interior is very well put together, and the car feels much larger than it actually is, with lots of room in both the front and back seats. The exterior has the look of a car that is much more expensive.(Several friends of mine, when first seeing the car, thought it was either a VW Passat or a Saab). The only complaint I have with the car is that the engine is a little noisier than I think it should be; other than that, I am very happy with my L300.
Could be better
My wife wanted a relatively inexpensive commuter car. Well the L300, even fully loaded, is relatively inexpensive in comparison with other cars in its category. The car still looks good, even after a year and pickup is good with the 6 cylinder engine. I do have two major problems: fuel economy and the climate control. For a small car, even with a 6 cylinder I would have expected at least 20 mpg around town, which we have yet to get. Secondly, the automated climate control system SUCKS. That's the best description I can give. We have had this vehicle in the shop twice for this problem. Didn't get fixed either time.
