JCW Clubman 2018 Rocketship

Wow! This mini roars in sport mode with the JCW 228hp. engine growling and throaty all the way. The 258 ft. torgue is gripping, and exhilarating. This is what driving is all about. So lost in the many soft cushy cars out today. I love this car.

Trends in Leased Vehicles

I've been leasing cars for the last 15+ years and it seems as though the manufacturers are equipping cars with components that require replacement within the initial lease period. I previously leased a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 and needed to replace tires after just 25K miles. My current lease is with a Mini Cooper Clubman S All-4 and it has 23K miles and needs front brakes rotors and wear sensors (estimated at $800+ at the dealer). In addition, it seems as though i'll need tires shortly to make it to the end of my lease. Quite possibly, i'm a sceptic, but it seems as thought the manufactures are equipping new vehicles with substandard performing parts and tires leaving the initial lease holder with significant financial responsibilities before the conclusion of the lease period. One of the reasons I lease is to AVOID these types of expenses. I've owned multiple vehicles over the years that were 4+ years old and had 40K+ miles before needing tires, and at no time did I require brakes. Seems like a negative trend ... UPDATE: 3/2020 My disappointment remains regarding the maintenance required on a leased vehicle...I actually went back to Mini with the potential to buy another and now they offer a “Maintenance” line item you can purchase for $895 which covers brakes. I guess they know the brake components won’t hold up for more than 26K miles.

Welcome to the family little Mini

AWESOME! We were looking for an add-on car to pull behind our motorhome. We had no intentions of driving it on a regular basis. After driving full-size Mini Vans, Trucks, and Suburbans for years I never expected to fall in love with this little car, but it happened. I love everything about this car. It's pretty, lots of neat interior stuff to play with, and fast, really fast! Alas, for now the 2018 Suburban and Truck and can sit in the driveway while we enjoy this little guy!

Low Profile Tires - kill

I love this car 5 in every respect ... BUT the demo model I leased came with low profile big rim sport tires. The dealer failed to stress the tire warranty package. I've blown 2 tires driving less than 5k. Hit a pothole at 10mph and it sounds and feels like the front axel just exploded. Hit a pothole at 65mph and without run flats your tire will explode as well as you. I live and drive in NYC/NJ due to the Coronapocalypse Now the roads on a rainy winter night mean hitting hidden pot holes is inevitable and in this car at high speed that will mean you blow tires which could be deadly. When I complained to the dealer they found it amusing and recounted a tale of a woman blowing 3 tires in a month. Wtf? I had a flash back to the movie idiocracy. Who finds that amusing? Mini needs to figure this out - how have they not been sued? The car is designed for the autobahn not Northeast city highways.

2018 Clubman

2018 MINI Clubman Cooper S 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6M)

The 2018 Clubman handles more mini-like than my previous 2015 Countryman did. Not quite like our 2013 Mini 2 door but it’s not far off. The ride is vastly better than any Mini I have owned. The interior is great, and the little 3 cylinder turbo is surprisingly good due to its torque. I definitely miss the brute power of the 4 cylinder turbo in my Countryman S, but the Clubman with the 3 cylinder doesn’t give you any torque steer problems you get in the S Models. It’s actually better on fuel than the expected ratings, I see slightly over 34 mpg routinely and that’s at FL highway speeds aka Fast... The only negative compared to the Countryman is that the rear seat is stationary, it doesn’t slide back back forth to give extra leg room and has no recline adjustment. That said it really doesn’t need the slide option since rear led room is pretty impressive for a small car, but the reclining option would be nice. It’s a great little car that does a lot of things well.
