Used 2002 Mazda Protege5 Consumer Reviews
Roof Rack Blues
Overall, a great little car. Sporty and utility at the same time. Negative points for non-standard roof rack. Only rated for 75Kg, not enough to haul around a tandem or recumbent bike. Original car sounded like a drum inside on the freeway before the north-west coast underside treatment as it suppresses the "hollow drum" experience at high speeds. Needs a 6 gear. Stereo is all right for stock. Roof rack not supported by Thule/Yakima mounts (yet), so pretty much eye candy for me. Did I mention I am disappointed with the rack? No adapters available from dealership for Thule components. No specific documentation.
Happy I'm Driving A Protege5
Overall I am very satified with my 2002 Mazda Protege5. It is extremely fun to drive. Looks great. I have 3 complaints about the car and they are: 1. Moonroof very noisy. Can not drive with it open. 2. Cup holders not deep enough, bottled water tips if full. 3. Difficult to drive on roads with water. In FL we have heavy downfalls of rain..when roads are wet with still water, vehicle is difficult to handle. Must travel at very low speed.

Great Wagon
At the time I need a new vehicle after mine was destroyed in an accident, it was the only foreign wagon available. After owning it for almost a year, I'm even more certain I made the right choice.
Do not buy this car
This is the worst car I have ever owned. if you truly read up you will find that most other owners complain about the axles, brakes, rotors, and loadness when driving on the highway. I have it in the shop AT LEAST twice a year. It is great on gas but too light in the snow in rain. I feel unsafe in the car, and want to trade, but currently owe more on it than it is worth.
