Great drive, not designed for short drivers
I bought a 2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5 S PREFERRED PLUS about a month ago. It’s a great drive but also a first edition so it’s a little quirky. I like it, but I don’t love it. I’m short but I’ve always been able to adjust a driver’s seat to fit me. I didn’t pick up on this problem during my test drive, so that’s on me. I have heated and ventilated seats, problem is, I’m sitting on a cushion!! I’m sitting on a cushion to get the visibility that I need as well as garage access swipe and pay windows. Oddly enough, even though I’m short, I also notice the lack of headroom. The key fob is big and flawed design. After finding my hatch open three different times (only alerted by app that it was open once), I bought a fab cover from Amazon, which seem to do the trick. The buttons are on the side and stick out, easily activated on accident. The car does drive like a dream! I’ve gotten used to the dial versus touchscreen for CarPlay. The app is pretty useless, thankfully, it’s free. Overall, really nice vehicle, I got the black edition, which is very sharp!

Excellent…almost
I’ve put about 4,000 miles on my CX-50 and love how it drives, especially how it handles on the twisties and sweepers. And all-good on the highway. Stiff but you know what’s going, feel connected. Same for the steering - it’s on the weighty side but to me, that’s a plus over almost all current cars/SUVs with their vague video-game feel - including Merc, BMW, especially Audi. Power is good but an updated ZF-style transmission would be a big plus and probably up the acceleration into Audi range. Current 6-speed seems a bit dated. My gripes: the seats look great but are very hard - I squirm around every 20-30 minutes. And they’re not very well bolstered for such a good handling vehicle. Not up to the standards of my last 2008 BMW. Knit-picks - when cold I get a light squeak like a trapped mouse in the steering column when steering lightly through like long sweepers. Once warm, squeak is gone. And after driving in wet then parking it overnight, the parking brake gives a disconcerting thump as if seized when reversing out of the garage the next day. Once moving it does’t repeat. Otherwise no problems, no complaints. Overall happy with the decision. While a half step down from BMW/Audi level, the price makes up for that gap.

Interior issues due to low quality
After only 15 months the driver seat developed a tear on the side in the fake leather that the body never even gets in contact with. Dealer will replace seat bottom but have to go through the process of approval and part ordering. Not sure what other defects will happen early on, but would steer clear from this car. Engine and transmission seem to be solid so far. Just seems corners have been cut on the interior. Wish I got a Honda/Acura. Never had issue with those in the past.

Good ride, tech needs some refinement
Great ride. Has 16,000 kms on it after 6 mos. For a larger Mazda it still has a hug the road feel. Exterior looks are eye catching until you get to the Chev Traverse taillights on the rear. Safety tech has a mind of it's own. Front collision avoidance/parking sensors works twice at the beginning of a day, after that it works when it wants to. Also i-stop is very slow to give the driver control, very slow throttle response after i-stop gives driver control, also tries to jerk the wheel back to TDC, when it engages. Mazda Canada still can't figure out what is wrong as no diagnostic errors show. This is my 5th Mazda over 40 years and lives up to Mazda expectations for drive, looks, and quality. A perfect SUV for a retired empty nesters.

Up to date design, simplicity, comfortable.
Nice design/looks good. Comfortable in both front and back. Simple controls. The turning knob for display/settings vs. touchscreen a plus. The tight steering and responsiveness is good. Nice cargo space.
