5K miles in on a 06 fully loaded S hatch. So far I'm impressed and quite proud to drive it. I came from the 4X4 scene but the fuel just got too much to deal with. This is quick, comfortable and fun to drive. Too small for ski trips, but excellent for 98% of my requirements. I would definitely recommend.

Great car for the money, the BMW of economy cars. Top notch styling inside and out, 17in. wheels, all power options included, 4 wheel discs w/ABS and EBD and a pretty good stereo for $15k? When you consider how much fun it is to drive - with the excellent handling, acceleration and braking of a 30k sport sedan - competitors like the Corolla S model (with the spoiler and aero body cladding mated to a 126hp engine) are blown away. It boggles the mind why Ford won't incorporate this platform into its US based Focus line yet does so abroad.

Worst car I’ve ever owned

Chews through tires and suspensions components like crazy and at only 128000 miles the engine burns a quart of oil every 900 miles. On top of that, everything is made out of the cheapest plastic and metal they could find. When I shut the drivers door, the panel fell off and broken plastic poured out of the bottom. The exterior panels dent permanently if you lean on them. Everything is cheap plastic and cheap sheet metal and everything will break. Came from a ‘99 Volkswagen with 340,000 miles that didn’t have any major problems but things like the blower motor and wiring harnesses had seen better days. Avoid at all costs.

I traded down from a Volvo V40, now the V50 to the Mazda-3S hatchback. While the quality of the interior materials in the Mazda are of a much lower quality. the comfort and ride is far superior. This is a great car for the money. I just drove it from New York to Miami and it was a pleasure. The only problem, and this drives me nuts, is when I'm in 5th gear, every time I put my foot on the gas pedal an audible whistling/vacuum cleaner sound from the engine starts and intensifies as I speed up. The moment I take my foot off the gas it stops. It is awful and I need to play music all the time in order to mask it.

It looks quicker than it is but it still outperforms the competition. A great platform to build a nice street racer. You cant find a sportier compact wagon for the money.
