The rated fuel economy must be average city and highway. When I put it on cruise control at 45mph on the long stretch between Gulf Breeze and Ft. Walton the instant mpg was touching 40mpg. Cruising at ~70 on the highway usually gets me around 27mpg, lately, and the engine is barely ticking over 2000rpm to do so. I prefer my old 93 to my 97, though, it seemed to be assembled with a higher standard.

This vehicle is truly the high mark of American performance combined with luxurious pampering. The sleek styling of the exterior combined with the soft leather seats with the computerized status readout truly make this a unique automobile. The air-ride suspension truly does make you feel like you are floating at times. The car depreciated from $42,000 (new) to around $7000 (retail), easily making this luxury rocket a value to find. To me, the Mark VIII will always be the ultimate executive driving machine.

The Black Hole

I decided to buy a Mark VIII after driving one from NC to CA for a friend that bought the car off Ebay. I took more than a year to find this car in CA. Most of them are on the east coast it seems. It is a very clean (repainted) two-owner car which had 65k /miles when I bought it 7/2007. The car now has 81k 10 months later. It has had (or has) every single glitch or known problem these cars get. Heater blend door inop, drivers side mirror glass distorted, rear window strip kinked, vibration at 80+ from the driveshaft, rough idle, etc. But everytime I get past a problem and drive the car again, I love it!

Good Car For The Cash

For the $9,200 I payed for my Lincoln I have a great car. I bought it used and did need to have the transmission ($1400) refurbished, the drivetrain ($500), and alternator ($250), other than that all has been routine maintenance. The car looks great, especially if you add some nice rims and tint the windows. The 290 horses under the hood really get the car moving. I reccommend this car to anyone who enjoys both luxury and performance, as I do.

This car is an excellent blend of luxury, performance, great styling and looks (still turns heads after an 8 year run!!). Repairs are NOT cheap, but this is a fact of life with any luxury vehicle. If you want cheap, buy a Focus! I was able to buy a car in great shape, and not needing mechanical work.I owned a Mark VII from 1992-2002 and was familiar with the model. I have a moderate setup, and am pushing about 300-310 HP. Comfort, speed, and a great JBL sound system!Fiber optics inside are jet cockpit like.! I recommend the LSC for its' upgraded package of suspension and braking. Since it has been discontinued, I shall garage mine. One of Ford's better ideas for sure! Thank you Wixom!!

Mark VIII LSC / F-15 with wheels(1997)

After owning a 1988 Mark VII LSC for over 160,000 miles and then placating myself (albeit enjoyably) with an Olds Aurora, I bought this car about one year ago over the Internet. My only conditions were: the dealership performed any of the needed work I asked for; and if the car were not up to snuff we would both walk away from the deal without penalty or harshness on either side. It turned out to be the best auto purchase I ever made! Being a Ford/Lincoln dealer they performed their regular pre-owned checks and needed work, and I only had to hold off one of the more unscrupulous salespeople who tried to sell the car out from under the Internet salesperson whom I initially dealt with.

This I must say is the best car I have ever owned! Outstanding quality, great toys, and the comfort of a Lincoln. The power is just WONDERFUL and the 4.6 DOHC is the most reliable engine on the planet. I would go out and buy them all up if I had the money!! Buy this car and it will NEVER DISAPPOINT YOU!! The 97-98 Marks were the BEST ever made.

I purchased my leaseback Toreador Red used Mark in 1999. It had 24,000 mi. I have run the dickens out of it and she has taken the punishment with ladylike understanding. She is a beauty today in as much as it was the day it was made. The 4.6 DOHC runs like a scaulded dog. The tranny was a bit slushy at first, but I put in a shift kit and now she'll squal the tires between 1st to 2nd shifts. I destroyed the first engine and replaced it at my expense at 108Kmi. The new engine is even stronger than the first, maybe overbored a bit??? This car says luxury from the git-go, and it says successful, fast, and a bit dangerous male or female inside. My wife also loves it and the heated seats.

The Mark VIII is a great car considering how affordable they are used. The powertrain is flawless. The motor is strong and very reliable. The braking and handling are very good for a 3800 lb car. Interior is very nice and of high quality materials. The cars problems are not that bad or expensive if you take the time to learn about the car. The HID bulbs cost about 150$ each to repair (MUCH more at a dealer). The tranny requires regular flushes with Mercon V in order to stay smooth (every 30K). The air suspension requires new struts about every 6 years (so about 440$ every 6 years for parts).

My Mark VIII

I bought my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII in October of last year as my very first car. Many people couldn't believe I was getting something that nice for my first car, but I absolutely love it! I think that the body design is beautiful. Large xeon headlights for extra visibility and the slight hint of a tire hump accross the trunk lid that relates back to the earlier Mark VIII's are just part of what makes it so wonderful. For the inside, mine has heated seats, which are very rare. I also like the msg center- You can get on-glance-info on many features and settings. Overall, I think they're a great car and a blast to drive.

Best $40K Luxury High Performance coupe

When I first bought my car, I had to spend a few dollars on it. I replaced the driveshaft, HID lights, all 4 tires, the whole steering wheel, the door handles, the brakes and the 10- disc changer. But the good news is, since then (6 months now), I have NOT had ANY problem whatsoever. No other car gives you the feeling a 97-98 Mark VIII gives you. Everywhere I go, compliments abound. People don't know how to think of you. They think you have a lot of class, they think you like power and speed, they think you have a lot of taste. It doesn't matter whether they are girls, guys, young or old.

I also own 94 Tbird, 00 Mustang GT. This is an awesome car. Bought it with 110000 miles on it and it runs great and looks super. The air suspension failed so I put a standard suspenion under it, so it handles better than my GT. It is pearl white and still turns heads after 10 years. Wish Ford would bring it back. Gas mileage is acceptable, 25 mpg on the highway. I would buy a couple more.

Luxury & Style with the Heart of a Snake

A hard-to-find car in this area, I was really stoked when I located my '97 Mark. It has the extra-cost Ivory Pearescent Tri-coat paint and every option except heated seats. And with its Mustang Cobra-like powerplant, this luxo-barge will really hop when you press the loud pedal. Highway manners are excellent, even @ 90. Have only had to replace a serpentine belt, a coil pack for cylinder #6 and a driver's side low beam HID headlight bulb ($170.00 even with a healthy discount) in 15,000 miles. Touchy in snow, but worth it during fair weather. My Mark's been extremely reliable, just wish the cool neon taillight that stopped working didn't cost $700 to replace. Overall great, fast car.

Luxury Hot Rod! Loved the Mark VIII from day one, knew what they REALLY were, and now own two of them, a '94 and '97. The '97 now has 104k mi. and still doesn't use a drop of oil! The 4.6 Intech is an outstanding motor and combined with the looks, luxury and just plain fun-to-drive factor, I'm totally satisfied with this car. I don't see much on the road I'd rather own, or that can outperform it. All the accessories work perfectly and the only issues I've had to deal with were the front air bags and the blend door for the climate control. One thing I don't like is the non-replaceable rear window molding that tends to ripple..otherwise love it.. a lot! Top notch luxo-rod.

I bought this car from a private owner. After a few items I bought for looks the engine is great and the ride is just as great. All of the new cars are way too small and not made for a bad accident. when I retired I dreamed of having a large car. There were none available. I was lucky to find an older car in this shape. Its not perfect but after one hundred thousand miles it is all original and in great condition.

Power and excellent take off accelleration. Good car to add performance items if so inclined. Not a winner when it comes to handling in corners and curves due to the softness of the air bag suspension but it does squat and go when you want it to. I am selling a '97 and looking for a low milage '98 in excellent shape. This car looks real good on me!

This car is just a blast to drive. The handling is amazing and the power never stops coming. This car has muscle-car performance and hanling while remaining composed, quiet, comfortable, and luxurious in the interior. With the HID headlamps, side turning lamps, puddle lamps, and neon tail lamps, and optional chrome wheels the exterior looks as good as the interior. The interior is really set off by the leather sport bucket seats. The car has a ton of neat features that you'd only expect to find in a Mercedes.

JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR A GREAT PRICE AND MUST SAY THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT SO FAR! PLENTY OF POWER, RIDE IS VERY PLEASANT EVEN WITH THE 18" RIMS/TIRES I JUST PUT ON. HANDLES SURPRISINGLY WELL FOR A BIG CAR. DEPENDING ON HOW YOU DRIVE THE CAR GAS MILEAGE IS PRETTY GOOD, ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AT CRUISING SPEEDS. HEADLIGHTS ARE AWESOME BUT VERY COSTLY IF THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

The Mark VIIIs are smooth yet quite fast off the line. I love the roomy front interior. The back seating is non-existant. I use it for storage. Gass mileage I get is 24 city 27 highway even in winter months. Excellent highway driving. Came with 10CD changer and JBL stereo which is nice but not great. Handling is very ggod for such a large car. I'd opt for a 98 instead of 97. The 4.6 Ford v8 will run forever under good maintenance.

The title says it all. The car is 27 years old, and one could put it back on the showroom floor without shame. It was a one=owner car and the only thing amiss about the entire vehicle was the remote gas filler cover would not release the cover from the driver's door release button. Fortunately, there is a lanyard release in the trunk that works just fine. Even the air ride suspension was operating as it should, when so many have long since given up the ghost and been replaced with conventional shocks. I could not have been more pleased with my purchase!
