What's new
The plug-in hybrid RX 450h+ joins the lineup
Part of the fifth RX generation introduced for 2023
Overview
The 2024 Lexus RX is the brand's five-passenger midsize SUV. It's bigger and roomier than the NX but smaller than the three-row LX and new TX SUVs. There are now four versions of the RX: the base RX 350, the hybrid RX 350h, the new plug-in hybrid RX 450h+ and a performance-oriented hybrid, the RX 500h. Overall, you'll certainly like this SUV if comfort and refinement are priorities. Lexus redesigned the RX just last year, improving the way it drives. Inside, the much-maligned infotainment system is gone, replaced by a large and easy-to-use touchscreen that puts it on par with the RX's closest competitors. The interior design has also been updated to match but has lost none of the quality look and feel you expect from a Lexus.

Hybrid Parts Warranty
8 yrs or 100,000 milesHybrid batteries are federally mandated to carry at least 8 years or 100,000 miles of warranty coverage from the manufacturer. Batteries that lose capacity more rapidly than expected should be eligible for replacement under warranty. Coverage of additional hybrid components beyond the battery itself will vary by automaker.
According to GeoTab’s data, if the observed degradation rates are maintained, the vast majority of batteries will outlast the usable life of the vehicle.

Am I Ready for a Plug-In Hybrid?
EV ownership works best if you can charge at home (240V outlet) This typically means a 240V home installation, or other places your car is parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice.
Adding a home charging system is estimated to cost $1,616 in This is an estimate for your area. Using your address and the answers you provide, Treehouse can provide a more accurate price.

The big news for 2024 is the addition of the new RX 450h+, a plug-in hybrid version that delivers some of the benefits of EV driving without the range anxiety. It takes the existing RX 350h and adds a larger battery pack that can be recharged at home or on the road in as little as 2.5 hours. With a full charge, Lexus estimates it will provide up to 37 miles of electric-only propulsion. After that, the RX 450h+ operates much like the standard RX 350h hybrid. It does cost considerably more than a regular 350h, however.
Competitors to consider
You have plenty to pick from if you're shopping for SUVs in the RX's price range. In both price point and feel, the Acura MDX is perhaps its closest rival, but the Genesis GV80 is another option with a stylish flair and represents an excellent value. If you have a bit more money to spend, the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE are both strong choices. To see where the RX's strengths and weaknesses lie, be sure to read our Expert Rating below.
Which RX does Edmunds recommend?
We suggest getting the RX 350h in the Premium+ trim level. It provides an pleasing blend of luxury, efficiency, technology and value. To that, we'd opt for the 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, the panoramic sunroof and the surround-view camera system to make parking even easier.

I have owned my 450h+ for six months and driven it 6,900 miles in and around town and on several long road trips. My 450h+ exceeds my expectations! The car’s computer has apparently learned my driving habits and now estimates my fully charged EV mileage at 43 vice the 37 it estimated when I first got the SUV. This new range appears accurate for my daily driving. I have calculated my … MPGe at almost 90 MPGe. My metered home plug shows I have spent $203 dollars for electricity and my driving records show I have spent only $138 on gasoline ⛽️ @ an average of $3.38 per gallon.
In summary, my 2024 Lexus RX450h+ is the most luxurious, quietest, and comfortable Lexus of all my 4 previous Lexus RX hybrids. It offers the perfect blend comfort, environmental consciousness with absolutely no range anxiety.
Like the Lexus, the Acura offers excellent value for money even when fully optioned. Where Lexus has dropped its V6 engine from the RX, Acura still uses its venerable V6 in the MDX and it's smoother and sounds better than the RX's powerplant. The MDX offers more space than the RX, as well as an optional third row of seats. Performance isn't the strong suit of either SUV, but the Lexus returns better fuel economy than the Acura. Be sure to read Edmunds' long-term road test of the Acura MDX.
Larger and more technologically advanced than ever, the X5 holds the advantage in interior room, cargo capacity and slightly more well-rounded tech than the Lexus. The BMW is also available with optional engines, offering more performance than what the RX offers. But the RX, even when well equipped, undercuts the price of the X5 by quite a lot of money. To learn more about what it's like to live with the BMW X5, read Edmunds' long-term road test of the SUV.
Available with either a turbocharged four- or six-cylinder engine, the GV80 offers a lot of luxury, not to mention loads of style, for not much money. Both the Genesis and Lexus fumble some of their tech features, but the performance edge goes to the GV80, especially when you opt for its turbocharged V6 engine. On the efficiency side, the Lexus returns superior fuel economy numbers with ease.
