IT is a very nice car if you are looking for smaller SUV. there are lots of competition from Medz, Lex, BMW, Volvo, Acura ect. But the price is very fair for what you get. It is more like a truck than the other car- based. But still rides nice. Eventhough it is the lowest end Land Rover, it has the look and feel of the more e xpensive one, like the Sport.

My new LR2 has 230 miles on it.I knew the day after I purchased it that it was ergonomically all wrong for me. The arm rest is very thin and cuts the circulation no matter what height or arm position. If you put the arm rest up there is no where to put your arm. What is worse is that in the up position, the metal adjustment screw, (about 2" x 3")sits inches from the right temple area of your head. Scary. The seat positions are limited, inability to angle front of drivers seat cuts leg circulation. It rattles alot and "ka-thunks" in several areas, over every little bump. I sure hope it has good off road ability to make up for the lack of comfort and road noise.

I recently purchase a 2009 LR2. I was impressed at what the car was able to do off road. I also understand that the same characteristics that make it a superior off road vehicle will relate to on road performance and safety. The LR2 has power leather seats, two sunroofs and a very nice sound system. It was a wonderful buying experience.

I have a 2009 LR2. I was initially hesitant to buy it because I have owned a County and an older defender in the past. The County was an absolute BEAST. I used to jokingly say, it could easily win a tractor pull. Provided it didn't break down on the way to the tractor pull. Mechanically it was good. Electrically, it was an unmitigated disaster. Gas guzzling, (if you need to ask, you can't afford it) plush leather and loaded with features tank, for it's time. So, the good; power, gobs and gobs of power and torque. Comfortable and spacious. I could stuff it with my climbing gear and 2 other guys climbing gear. The defender. Oh the the "so ugly and simple it's beautiful, defender." I had virtually no issues whatsoever with my older defender. It was an early 80s. Electrically, well, it was wired like a flashlight, so it didn't have any electrical problems whatsoever when I owned it. There's just nothing to them to go wrong. Mechanically, also fantastic. Simple, reliable diesel that has virtually no issues. The bad, there's just nothing to them. I mean, NOTHING. it has power steering! Thank the gods for that. But that was the only comfort amenity it had. The "air conditioning" was 2 flaps you could open under the wind shield. The heat was ok, but not quite enough. On the road, calling it anemic at best is a glowing recommendation. It struggled to keep up with regular traffic speeds. Heh, I get it, not what's it's DNA was intended to do. I had a suspension lift and 33"s on it, which didn't help it's on road performance at all. It was noisy at highway speeds and at times a bit scary in aggressive traffic. Now, the LR2. I've been extraordinarily impressed with this beast from the first time I drove it. I was hesitant to buy given my previous experiences with LR/RR products. Not so with the LR2. I have a mid level 1. It's comfortable, plenty of power for me ( I do understand what people are saying that it struggles at higher speeds on the highway. I love the A post speakers, something which most other luxury brands don't have. The mileage, not so great. I think 16 mpg is somewhat hopeful. Mine gets about 8 mpg. It's thirsty. Yes you can run 89 in it. But the mileage and power are affected. Trade off I suppose? My experience with all LR/RR products regarding off road abilities, is in 1 word. Astounding. I have offroad and rock crawling experience. Admittedly not with rovers. Comparatively speaking however. They never cease to amaze me. The newer ones, very much are still off rosders disguised as mall crawlers. With a standard factory set up, and not very aggressive tires, my LR2 is an absolute billy goat. I recently was driving it thru @ 1" of snow on unplowed roads in the first special program position. It had NO TROUBLE getting me around. The bad. This might be just me but the fob and the locks DRIVE ME CRAZY. the fob works fine, usually. I do on occasion have to disassemble the darn thing in parking lots to kind of push the battery around, and then it will work. Maybe that's just me? I understand other people saying it's anemic at higher speeds on the roads. I don't really speed, I am a very patient and careful driver, so I don't mind. Last couple things I promise. I love it so much I am in the process of looking around the country for another one with lower mileage on it because I wanna keep it for a while. I LOVE the 3.2 liter and how it "growls". It doesn't roar like a supercharged Benz, but it has a badass growl and I love it. I have something of an inside track with access to luxury vehicles. I get to drive many. I have even driven the newer range rovers in the snow and mud. Again, astounding! Despite being a mall crawlers, it handled mud and snow with the greatest of easy that many other brands could not. That's been the 1 consistent underlying theme of all their products in my op. They are more than capable offroad for 95% of us. Please please please. Don't ever change that Land Rover! Oh, 1 last thing. I can't scroll back up to insert this point where it belongs. My inside track knowledge has informed me that many of these motors are actually made by volvo. Which could explain the reliability I have with mine. Also in the bad. I cannot emphasize enough, the need for REGULAR maintenance. They all burn oil. Whether brand new or not. I guess it's a trade off for more power with a smaller engine? IDK? I can't wait to buy another one. I hope I can find another 3.2 liter and not be "stuck with" buying a 2.0.

I drove a 2008 LR2 for 100,000 miles, then traded for a used 2013 with around 15,000 miles. Batteries, belts, oil, tires, and one power steering pump. The 2013 is now at 96,000 miles. Long drives, short commutes, Montana snow, Arizona heat, and driving off-road to avoid a crash and two mile backup: NEVER failed me. Putting off trading it, and will likely give/sell to one of my grown kids when I secure another working vehicle this year. It’s ‘too truck-like’, according to a review some years ago. So, buy a CAR. Looks have aged well. Mileage is mediocre. Stability in Idaho and Utah snowstorms was reassuring. I don’t care for the newer models, and I don’t need the mass of a Range Rover. Would buy a very low mileage ‘15 in a heartbeat.
