$21,000 sold us
As I type this our 2002 EX is on the back of a wrecker to the dealer. Was at a fast-food and the radio went off, then the dash lights got dim, then the abs-engine-seat belt / other lights came on in dash. Turned off AC, dash lights got bright. Turn-off engine, would not start. This is the 4th time in 2 and half years this has occurred. AC compr.,lumbar switch, and radio have been replaced. Kia will charge the battery and find no problem. We will sell once out of shop.
satisfied customer
I will definitly consider buying another Kia.
Poor Reliability
Eight months after we bought the van it had an electrical problem. Five more electrical problems in about two and half years, we sold the van. Dealer would say I left copper pennies in the outlets -- I pay for them to fix. Then within 24 hours, they would have to come get it for the same problem. This time it was the alternator. Less than 24 hours they have to come get it again, say it was the battery (this would be the third battery in this van / had to pay for prorated battery). That was the last straw. Other items replaced on van included air compressor, left fog light bulb, cargo bulb, radio replaced, and lumbar switch.
Love my sedona
It is a great van at a reasonable price. Engine has lots of power, great pickup. Lots of extras are included. I have had it for two years without any problems.
Good van
I love my van. It's comfortable and is a nice looking van. I can travel or just drive around town in comfort and style. I love all the little exstras that the car comes with
bad quality
After 7,000 miles the van started to experience problems, Alternator problems, broken plastics, transmission oil leak, air conditioning(3 times), Speed meter fluctations, driver window fault and now the van is shuting down the engine while runing. In puerto Rico the warranty is 36,000 miles and now I'm stock with a van that is a safety concern
Good Minivan,Eexcellent Value
Interior - quality materials, convenient, well designed, comfortable seats, upscale feel with leather. Excellent stereo. Powertrain - Responsive in spite of 4800 lb weight. Very few warranty issues. Solid, reliable, well-built vehicle. Enjoyable to drive and travel in this vehicle. Smooth and quiet. Fuel economy - we get 20 mpg overall, 22-23 highway @ 75mph, 17 mpg city. Value - outstanding value. Loaded for low $20s Features- Lacks some key features in this segment: foldaway 3rd seat, all wheel drive, power sliding doors, etc. Has some nice features that others lack: moonroof, pwr passenger seat, pwr rear windows, Homelink, etc Excellent warranty & safety ratings.
Disappointed Purchaser
Was very excited to have such an equipped minivan for the price, that is until it proved to be totally unreliable. Had to have service on it around 20 times (no really). Transmission replaced, AC components replaced several occasions and still does not function properly on long road trips (more than 100 miles). We only have 42,000 miles on it. My advice. Stay away from the 2002. Glad to see there are more positive reviews than negative and others are having better luck with their Sedona.
Not happy!
My van is in the shop for the 4th time since I bought it. The A/C went out (fuse) shortly after I bought it, visor mirrors broke easily a couple of times, fog lights blew, check engine light comes on all of the time, Mass Air Flow sensor went out (expensive!) and now the A/C is messing up again, check engine light is on again and it wouldn't start yesterday. The paint is peeling on the side mirrors already (and I have kept it in a carport). Once it left me alongside the road for a wrecker to tow. What is the deal? Can't believe such a new vehicle has so many issues.
DO NOT BUY!
What a piece of @#$%! We bought the vehicle for $25,000 and had $13,000 in warranty work done on it. It was in the shop over 60 days.
Don't Buy KIA
We have had nothing but problems with our Kia. We have had it in the dealership 3 times because the A/C won't blow cold air, not to mention that it moans loudly. Numerous times it has been seen for electrical wiring problems which keep running our battery down. The exterior paint is coming off the chrome which is rusting. The black strip around the windows is fading and it looks really worn. The worst part is that we have to keep dealing with the Kia service department which is less than cooperative.
Dealer Good, Van Lousy
We have had numerous repairs for our 2002 Kia Sedona EX. However, the dealer has been great about doing all repairs under the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. Sometimes repair work is slow, but the dealer always tries, and never charges anything. Biggest problems with the car are bad gas mileage (but the heavy weight makes it a nice interstate cruiser) and weak A/C. Strange problem we have had is bad transmissions. Would not go in reverse at all, two repairs with rebuilt KIA trannys did not work, but the ultimate new KIA tranny at 40,000 seemed to work. However, we are having the knocking again now, at 50,000, so we may be up for another tranny. Great dealer, lousy vehicle.
4 years owned and still likin' it
I have owned my Sedona 4 years in October. I have had a good experience with it and would recommend it to any one interested in a minivan at a lower than average price.
Sedona's a good ride
Ran great for 40,000 miles, then had engine hesitation. Needed extensive parts replaced but all covered under plan. Running smooth again.
Pass on Kia
We chose the Sedona due to the warranty. I just didn't know how much we would have to use it. This bucket of junk has been in the shop on average once every 5 months. The Korean made tires have dry-rotted after less than three years of ownership. The gas mileage is horrible. Stay away form KIA.
Watch out Kia Motors does not honor warranty
From the beginning, this van consumed oil excessively. Kia dealers refused to address the problem. Not a lot of space for groceries. Internal pieces are cheap and they fall off.
BIG MISTAKE TO BUY
AFTER 9 TRIPS TO THE DEALER IN 16 MONTHS, I'VE GIVEN UP AND I'M GETTING RID OF THIS PIECE OF JUNK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WORSE, THE DEALER OR THE CAR. 4 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT, I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT CONSTANT PROBLEMS STARTING WITH THE A/C NOT WORKING TWICE, STRESS CRACK IN WINDSHIELD, TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT,COOLING SYSTEM, DRIVER SEAT COMING LOOSE. NEED I SAY MORE!
Bang for your buck
I have owned this for over a year and I can honestly say I have really enjoyed it from the first day. Main purchase reason was more space for trips with the family. The ride is great, the seats are comfortable, and I have only had minor issues (one front wheel bearing and the dealership replaced both under warranty with NO hassles). Great vehicle for the money, but plan on keeping it as the resale value is awful!
Works For Me
Very nice highway and city driver. Just turned 70K, no major problems, but I'll need the major service, timing belt, etc and they hook you for that (who doesn't?). Hankook tires were replaced at 45K and I had it aligned and tires balanced. Luggage rack is actually useful. Easy entrance and exit, solid doors, solid, quiet car.
SMART MONEY
I had no intention of purchasing a Kia Sedona, when visited my local dealership to trade in my 93 Villager. I had test drove many minivans and was not impressed with them including the much acclaimed Chrysler mini-vans. My Kia dealership is also a Honda dealership. They always have a good selection low mileage used vehicles. I tested a 2000 Dodge Caravan for 24 hours, I was not in the least bit impressed. The vehicle was cheap and bland. The dealership offered me a 2000 Kia Sedona demo, my wife and I were impressed with the vehicle. I could not believe that a vehicle could cost thousands of dollars less than it's competitors and be superior in many ways.
Problems - A/C, Engine Light, Defroster
We are extremely disappointed with our Kia Sedona. The AC broke in 2005 - the dealer tried to repair it at least 6 times - unsuccessfully!!. They kept our van for a total of 6 weeks (29 days in a row for one repair). They replaced the condensor, along with almost every other part. In 2007, the AC did not work again. The van is slightly out of warranty and the dealer expected us to pay for another condensor after only 2 years !! The check engine light has been on constantly for 2 years - the service dept at the dealer could not fix it. The defroster is not working properly. The van has been stalling. We definitely would not recommend the Kia Sedona!!
A Fun Family Car to drive
My wife and I were looking for a family car that would be comfortable for the three of us (have a 2 year old daughter), plus our baby close to arrive. After looking to some SUVs and some other mini Vans we knew this Kia was the one because the three of us (including my daughter), loved it since we went in to our test drive. It is a fun vehicle to drive with the standard CD player and cassete player. Its ride is very smooth, with its dual air conditioning controls we can easily accomodate my wife's and myself use.
NOT a good minivan option
First warning if you are researching here: The only reason the average rating for this van is 8.0 is because the vast majority of the ratings are from '02 and '03. That said, I bought my Sedona about 1 year ago, with 50k miles. I am trading it in for an '07 Town & Country. Why? 1. Alternator died 2. bearings and axle on passenger side died 3. Tension pulley for serpentine belt fell off 4. Tranny is beginning to shift wierd (see other ecent reviews about the tranny issues with Sedonas) 5. Several squeaks and rattles that drive me nuts. 6. sticky difficult sliding doors Overall, I cannot own it any longer as I do not trust that it will serve any better than it has in the first year.
Stop Looking and Buy
I love this Van. My husband and I bought this Van last year and we still love it. No regrets!! Even with the other new Vans we see on the road, it still feels new to us. When we see other people driving Sedona's, they even stop and talk to us. they say things like " Don't you love it" and "Isn't this a great Van" TRUE!! It's all TRUE. That's how wonderful this Van is!!
Love It!
The Sedona is a joy to drive. The first weekend I drove it, I got a speeding ticket -- my first one in ten years. Drove from St.Louis to Florida last summer and the cruise control had no problem maintaining speed over the mountains. The windshield cracked due to the heat and it took awhile to get a new windshield installed (it was back ordered). However, the service department was great when the parts actually came in. The Sedona does have many many blind spots. We had to remove the headrests in the back to be able to see out of the back window.
Best Mini out there period.
This car is the quintessential, fully functional, total comfort and with all the bells and whistles. Guys.. and Mothers or soon to be parents... THIS IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK! Kia's SEDONA Mini van stands apart from the over priced tins out there period. With a totally fully equipted one you still walk away with enough money saved or in my opion enough money for the Plasma 40" flat screen or a down payment on a cool sexy Mercedes SLK, CLK
sedona ex
only had 6 weeks. got a good buy on this van. very comfortable seating, fairly quite ride, a lot of standard features. rear climate control doesn't have a temp. selector, it is either hot or cold.(very poor design) engine runs well (3.5 L) but has a inherent vibration which is a bit disapointing. overall rating 8
Great Vehicle !
This is a great vehicle. Priced well built good and has a great warranty. Check out the safety ratings...reconsider that Windstar with the swaying suspension and noisy V6. Whoever said this "van" is underpowered is crazy. The 5 speed automatic is smoother and the 3.5L is more responsive than than the Ford or Chrylser product. I am pleased with the new wave of KIAS.
3 months and 6400 miles
Can't say enough good about it. Bought in FL on trip. Don't like to buy cars away from home. Dealers tend to give better service if bought from them. Will see if KIA like that tomorrow. Have a "stress crack" in windshield. No, not a rock hitting it. Will see if the dealer tries to say road harzard for my insurance company to handle.
Kia's First van is a sucess
This van has been such a blessing. We needed to get an affordable van that was able to have a wheelchair lift installed, we had no idea that it was going to be such a great van. It was very comfortable, great visibility. We have only had 1 problem in the 6 years that we have had it, and it was still under warranty when the A/C went bad. Oh great Warranty too. We have a lot of experience with Kia since the sedona, would recommend any of the 10 models to people.
Kia Sedona, love it
I just bought my 2002 Sedona EX a couple of days ago and absolutely LOVE it! I got all the goodies except the moon roof. It handles great, very comfortable, and the kids think I hit the lottery. Granted, its only been in my possession for 3 days but I have no complaints. No way I could afford any of the other minivans on the market, even if it included just the bare minimum. The best vehicle I have ever owned!!
i saved 8,000 dollars of a dodge
my kia sedona does not burn rice and kimchi,it really burns gasoline just like the cavavan i traded in.Get up and go is excellent.smooth transmission.i like the shift on the console.it even has a full size spare,cd system is ok it needs a subwoofer..great deal for the money..this is a keeper car not a lease
love it but hate it
Love our new kia, drives great , and rides great, love to upgrades it has also,, hate it because i have a rattle from the rear seats that no one seems to know how to fix it??? any opinions? if so please email me,, max2000here@aol.com when we brought it home we loved it, no we are starting to hate it
so far, so good
I bought mine with the leather, moonroof, homelink and ABS options for 22,400. I probably could have got it for less if I had started the negotiating at a lower price, because the salesman sold it to me almost right away. The NBC Dateline report on the Insurance Institutes crash test results are a little troubling, but I believe those are only used to test the cost of the damage to the car, and do not conflict with the government's 5-star crash ratings. But I am worried that the report will result in increased insurance costs. Friends and neighbors who have looked at it have all been impressed. I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a van
Best bang for your buck
I researched the minivan market for months, and there is nothing that even comes close to what you get from KIA. I saved thousands, and got every feature standard on the LX that others wanted big dollars for. On top of all the standard features, I got the security of the 10 yr 100,000 mi warranty. That was key for me, because if I'm going to drop $20,000 I want security that after 3 years the dealer will stand by any potential problems I may incur. KIA must be very confident in their product because of the warranty that noone else comes close to matching.
no regrets
I HAVE A VOYAGER, I LIKE THE SEDONA ALOT BETTER
sedona
Two days after purchase, noise when air conditioner is on. Sounds like compressor. We'll see how good that warranty is when we have it checked. Lots of extras included in price.
This car is Unreal
This car is unbelievable for the price. We have had this car for almost a month and we love it. My wife drives it the most, but if I didn't work at a chemical plant I would drive it all the time. I am a large individual and the seat are comfortable and roomy. My kids love the easy access and once I put the T.V. in they may not leave the van. The sound system is great. I agree with the one reviewer that there is a rattling noise that comes from the third seat but I think its from the heat rest or not being locked in completely. The magic seat is great, but for $5000 dollars more I can do without it.
Front end knock that wont stop knocking
This is 2001 Sedona. The car has had the following problems: winshield washer tank leaking, faulty gas gauge, air leakage/whistling sound from the moon roof area and worst yet we have a prevalent knock in the front suspension. The dealer's technician played dumb with suspension knock and moonrooof leak. The car was back for an entire day, they didn't have either part (fuel send unit not winshield wash tank) and the technician said there was no problem w/ moonroof and front end knock. That is until I insisted we go for a test drive. Then all of a sudden his ears starting working. Two more service dates corrected all the problems except front end knock. They have no answer for it.
Very bad van
The motor is very bad. I was in and out if the dealer ship most of the time.same for the transmission

Our 1st Minivan
After extensive research the Kia Sedona was the obviuos choice for my family. The look and ride are excellent. We got a fully loaded van for $23,600. The dealer, at no charge, also threw in the cargo net, sunroof deflector and pin striped the van to match the two tone. Only have 600 miles on it but we love it anyways. Time will tell if it's reliable. But the 60,000 bumper to bumper and the 100,000 mile powertrain warranties will help.
Well Pleased
It's too early to give a realistic review but I wanted to say for the first 500 miles in the 2 days I have had it it it is great.I traded in a 99 Pontiac Montana loaded with 65,000 highway miles. It was falling apart. The Kia is tight, rides better and drives better thus far. Time will tell. Seems to be well worth the money.
Surprise, surprise!
I looked at all the vans on the market before deciding on a Kia. Never thought I would buy a Kia but was impressed by the overall value and quality of this van. Since we bought the van I have not changed my impression a bit. The van rides great and looks good too (for a van). The interior features and quality are outstanding. Comfortable and functional, this van is hard to beat.
A great minivan for the money
This minivan offers almost all of the features standard as it's competitors for thousands less. The ride is smooth and quiet. It has a very heavy build. Quality and power are very acceptable.
a must buy
this is the most likeable van i have over owned and i am going to trade this one in for a newer one so i can keep on taking my kids places they need to be and i just love it
Kia Lemon
I purchased one of the first off the assembly line and have hated it every day since. This vehicle has been nothing but problems since the beginning. I would not recommend even my worst enemy to purchase a Kia!
Hoped for More
This has been an average van. I knew going in that gas mileage would be bad, and it is ... about 16-17 mpg in mixed driving. Highway we get about 19. Interior is okay; my wife bought it because of leather seats and cheap price. Flexibility, however, is compromised because of very heavy third-row seats that do not fold flat. Reliability has been okay. Check engine light has come on a few times and the alternator went out at 42,000 miles. I think the transmission is starting to go. When colder than about 25, it hesitates before going into gear ... revs like it was in neutral. A/C fixed twice. All except the transmission have been fixed under warranty. We'll keep it to 100k as long as repairs are free.
LOVE IT
I absolutely love this van. Funny thing is, I never looked at a Kia van before I walked in and bought this one. I have the EX model. Nicely well equipped. This has so many options, I guarantee I still haven't found some. One of the options that blew me away was the "heated windshield wipers"! I was told that these are an awesome feature for winter (which is horrible in Ohio) because they keep your wipers from sticking to the window! Awesome. I love my Sedona and will definitely be buying the new and updated version that was just displayed at the 2005 auto show. (LOVE the middle windows that roll down!) In summation: BUY ONE! (you won't regret it!).
