Excellent Value
We love the Van - its a great volue and after one month would consider buying another KIA Vehicle. We spent a month reviewing the Honda, Toyota and Mazda vans and found them to be as much at $10,000 more in price. So the seats fold down in the back and the sliding doors have auto windows. - this was not worth the difference in price. The van has a lot of power the 3.5L engine moves in a heart beat and with 7 adults it can move. KIA has the best value and van in the market. The warrantees are excellent. I recommend a Buy!
Trouble free luxury
We purchased our two-tone Sedona EX in Spet. 2002 with leather, rear AC and sunroof. My wife has put 8K on it already and we have had zero problems. Very solid build quality an execellent transmission. The ONLY rattle comes from the third row seats on occassions. I had a friend who knows cars sit in it without seeing the name. He looked around, felt the materials and said, "Is this a new Acura minivan or something?"

From Behemoth to Best
I drove a Chevy conversion van and wanted to downsize so searched via internet. Unfortunately, my perfect minivan didn't mesh with my pocketbook. Put off decision until last July I drove by a Kia dealer and saw the Sedona, checked it out and fell in love. It had everything I wanted at an affordable price. We bought it the next day without knowing much about it, but at least I knew what I was comparing it to. After putting 10,000 miles on it to date, I still love it.
Back in Love With It
Bought this Summer '02. In the first month, it broke down 4 times. We were just about to get going on the Lemon Law thing, but Kia really took care of things. They found the problem (finally -- some wire that was shorting out), sent their national customer service guy and mechanic to inspect it (the guys at the dealership were running around cleaning and acting nervous, so I was impressed), and have been in touch with us since to make sure we're happy. Van is running great ever since.
so far, so good
We bought our Kia Sedona EX in July 2002 and have put about 1000 miles on it, both city and highway driving Massachusetts. It has leather interior, ABS, sunroof, homelink and two tone paint. We were amused by the professional reviews saying that the van had sluggish acceleration. We don't know what the reviewers were comparing it to, but compared to our old mini-van this car has plenty of pick up and go. We baby-sit our grandkids and have two carseats to contend with when we pick them up. The dual sliding doors are convenient especially for loading and unloading the toddlers. We're still learning about the van's features but we are pleased so far.
1st Mini Van
I bought this van on 7/27/02 as it currently has 1300 miles on it. I have not had any problems except for a little rattle coming from the drivers side dash area. It's a great van compared to other vans I've drove and researched. The price is great. The gas miledge is poor. I guess I'm use to driving my BMW which I can go 400 miles before I have to refill compared to 200 on the Sedona LX. Hopefully this Kia will hold up. Never thought I would be buying a Kia use to BMW's, Toyota's. But when I saw the KIA SEDONA I know I had to get it based on the price and the standard features!!
Nice Price...Less Problems
We traded our Gr. Caravan for the EX. I enjoy the 5 speed transmission! It is a relief not to hear the whine of our old Caravan's 3.3L, 4-speed going up and down the appalachian mountains around here. Kia has a real winner. I've owned GM and Dodge and neither cruise control would maintain consistent speeds up and down these hills. The Sedona powers up and down without a hitch. My wife loves the loaded interior and our boys love all the neat compartments. No real complaints so far.
Okay, but...
We bought this van new in 02, really like most features. Engine light came on and the dealer can not fix it. Through arbitration with BBB, I am receiving a new one. Factory and dealer had problems following through with their written deadlines. Selling new van when it arrives, not because of the van but because the dealer and factory are hard to work with.
minor things but a GREAT buy!
Hi, Compared to other models, we saved close to $5,000 with $1,000 rebate. The main reasons that we bought Kia Sedona are the followings: Safety (5 stars!), price, and Warranty 10 year/100,00 miles! You just can't beat that. Now the test, my wife is the main driver for the van, and she just LOVES it. Now the minor negatives. Everything was ok until after 3 months there was rust right above the license plate holder. The rust was dripping down from where the bolts were. I think it was coming from the non-stainless bolts. Another thing is the dome light. The light doesn't come on when the wether is cold.
I LOVE MY KIA
I LOVE THE WAY THE FIVE SPEED TRANNY RIPS THREW THE GEARS WHEN I PUNCH IT SOUNDS LIKE A SPORTS CAR. I THINK KIA SHOULD PUT THE FIVE SPEED IN THE NEW SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE THEY ARE INTRODUCING NEXT YEAR (sorrento)
great milage/great value
my 10th new car, best i ever bought. paid 21,000 with tax and still saved $ 4000 from cost of dodge van with v6. tires are heavy duty, 44 PSI rated. WIth 42 PSI i am getting 20 mpg with air conditioning on, even when stuck in traffic jams! would reccommend to anyone that wants a safe ,fun, long term relationship. last van was 1999 GMC Safari. Kia is far more comfortable and just as powerful.
Better Than Decent Van
Quite pleased, especially for the price. Looks nice, rides well, feels safe. Fit and finish better than imagined it would be.
The 2002 Kia Sedona
This minivan offers more value than any other on the market. Fully loaded, the Sedona does not exceed $24,000. Yet, it has a 5 star crash test rating, leather seats, abs, sunroof and more. The build quality is very impressive. And, the warranty is the best on the market. If you can do without the power doors and fold down seats, you should give it a test drive. Do, and you will buy it.
One happy owner
We bought our van 4 months ago. I have been driving a five speead for 5 years. I was worried about switching to an automatic. BUt this van is great. the pickup is excellent. I am never worried about not having enough power. I drove other vans, like the Odessey and Town & Country. I like the Sedona better hands down. The Odessey which has 240 hp feels much more sluggush than the Sedona. The interior is very nice we have an EX with leather. We got such a great price on it also. It is very comfortable!! I am now looking forward to the Sorrento. I can't wait to check it out. I would highly recommend this van.
Good Van
Have 15K on it. Milege improved after 10K. Wife loves it. Plenty of Zip and smooth tranny. We like the tray between seats. Very well designed
Don't Do It
I purchased this vehicle because of the price & now know I would have been WAY better off to pay more for a better brand. A/C has been fixed 2 times & it took 3 trips to dealer to diagnose bad evaporator. It made horrible noises & needed a crank shaft pulley replaced. Also, the windshield cracked with no sign of impact...another complaint I've seen in other reviews. Worst of all, it has begun to rust. It was repaired once & now is rusting again in another spot. When I called Kia to request help getting rid of my lemon, they told me to use the state lemon law...in other words, they wouldn't do anything on their own, it had to be legally.
Sedone Saved Our Lives!
My husband and I were traveling to New Hampshire from Pennsylvania and were bumped off the road by a tractor trailer hauling a flatbed full of lumber! Our Sedona was up to the challenge, and took the blow from the steel of the flatbed extremely well. We also took out 60 feet of guardrail, and though the exterior was obviously smashed, the engine actually kept running for a short while--long enough for us to move the car to safety. It was totaled, and we're going out to buy another Sedona!
Great Mini-Van ! Small Problem
This van is awesome and fun to drive. It has all the features of vans 6K more. We have 4k miles on it and no problems yet except a stress cracked windshield. We were driving on the road and heard a sound like a rock hitting the windshield. The problem is that there was no car or truck in front of us. Two 8 inch cracks appeared toward the bottom of the windshield where the defrosters lays. I am taking it to the dealer monday to see if they belive me. There is no nick or any evidence of a rock chipping where the crack starts. I have seen other reports of this problem. Beside's the windshield the van is a great buy.
Using the Warranty a Lot!!
We bought this van when due with our second child. We have had a lot of challenges with it so far, and are currently working on getting out of it. I've used the roadside assistance 3 times for a dead battery and had it in for service to replace the cam seals. The darned thing was leaking oil at 5000 miles! The car has not started on 3 separate occasions, which stinks when you're pregnant and relying on it! I would not buy one again, nor would I recommend it to friends. When it runs it's a nice enough van. A bit loud, but basically a nice, albeit unreliable van.
Great for a minivan
I bought the Sedona because we needed the practical family vehicle. It came fully loaded with leather seats for under $23,000. It fits the five us nicely, but is lacking in the trunk space dept. like all other minivans. It has a very smooth ride and I like the pickup and handling. Sleek style too! Used it to go on a road trip, and logged in 1200 miles within the first week, nice and comfortable.
Good Value
Owning the Kia just over a year now, I've found it to be a good choice for the value. The Van has performed well and has been a pleasure to drive on long trips. The Van suffered a broken timing belt at 12000 miles, because of a plastic cover breaking in the timing belt housing. Kia's roadside assistance and reimbursement program worked flawlessly.
Buy a Sedona or give your money away...
I waited 3 months before review. Thoroughly pleased. Power is incredible. Gas mileage could be better, but people must understand the box-frame, which will be there to save your lives if you need it - not ound elsewhere & accounts for the weight. Great ride, got everything save for leather & spoiler. $22K even. Pay $25K+ for Honda/Toyota/Ford? Why? More stylish in biased opinion than all others 'cept for maybe the Grand Caravan (at $30K+). Nice wheels. Super body styling. Nice dark privacy glass. Big seats - easy removal. Obscene warranty! GREAT roadside service used once - I missed that one of the boys left the light on and the battery drained.
A gamble that is still paying off
We bought the Sedona because it was about $10K less than what I was going to pay for an Odyssey. People warned me about poor build quality and other things. The build quality is pretty good. You simply get a very good car for the price. Its engine is powerful enough if you don't go over 85 mph very often. The handling sucks, it feel like the suspension is well too soft or the van is too heavy. Still, we have not experienced a single problem, so I guess the gambling is paying off.
First VAN
I got this van in unreliable price with lot's option. This is my first van. I had FL trip. No problems found. Running smooth & fuel average is 21 miles on highway. Don't miss to buy this van with low price & more option. don't spend more money towards other van.
Worth the savings??
Price over all else was the the deciding factor in this purchase. The moment we drove the van off the dealer lot the "check engine" light was on. After three trips and three weeks in their service department, the problem was fixed. There have been other problems as well including: Oil leaks, intermittent A/C clutch noise, loose rear-view mirror and numerous squeeks and rattles (nine months of ownership and six trips to the service department). I would gladly add $50-$100 to my monthly payment to be driving a Honda or Toyota. remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!.
Move over Honda!
The features that you get for the money cannot be beaten! Great ride and very family friendly. Smooth solid and quiet ride which offers many extra features at no cost. All in all go for it you won't be disappointed.
doug's kia sedona review
my friend from denver was impressed when we wheeled into the airport with our new sedona. he raved about the ride, handling, and styling both inside and out. couldn't believe the price. excellent. figured it would be at least 5,000 more than we spent for it.
KIA SEDONA
THE PRICE IS RIGHT AND THE QUALITY IS ON THE MONEY
Good, But Could Be Improved
Called Kia Roadside Assistance 3 times for dead battery, finally the dealer replaced the lumbar switch. Battery would go dead if vehicle sat more than 5 days; I don't know if the problem is fixed yet. Windshield cracked and was replaced promptly. No hassels with roadside assistance and dealer warrranty work. Rear glove box door keeps popping open. Took cross-country trip Dec 2003, MPG averaged O/A 21 MPG @ 62 MPH average; ride was comfortable, handeled well. Rear seats are hard to get into. Interior componets seem durable. Since corporate America is sending jobs overseas, this retired 20- year Army veteran tries to avoid purchasing from American companies.
I Lied
After owning Kia Sportage & finding out the depreciation I said "I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER KIA". 3 yrs old, 60K miles and worth only $3.5K to $4K on trade at 6 dealers. I found this out after falling for the SEDONA. Tax, tag, title, out the door for $14,500 & my 1999 Sportage. May have done better with more time (had to leave for daughters wedding in 1 hr). 1,800 miles since purchase 11 days ago. We Love It. Highway 75-85mph 19.75mpg and climbing. 1st tank 16.3mpg.
I like it
We bought our Kia brand new in May 2002 (EX model with leather, moonroof, rear spoiler, the works). The price was excellent!! The Van runs great and we've had very few problems which only includes the check engine light coming on twice in 2 years. But it was for very minor problems. We also recently bought another one (used 2002 LX). I love that one too! The LX is mine and the EX belongs to my husband. The Sedona is just a great value.
New Sedona for family of five
My husband and I just bought a Kia Sedona EXb(2002) with ABS,leather,two- tone(black/BR.Platinum),homelink,and rear spoiler. We paid 22449 before taxes. The van is gorgeous and functional especially for a family with a five yr old, a three yr. old, and a 10 month old. And a dog. We look forward to traveling many miles in our van and plan God willing to keep it until its 100000 mile warranty is gone .
18 trips/2yrs/"the little things"
Love the power of the engine, hate all the little things. Kia is not open on Saturday...duh, this really makes you angry when you have to take off work to get all of the little things fixed. List of things: battery (2x) , visor, wipers (3x), broken seat, window off track, door slider broken, (just to name the ones I can think of immedietley!
Best Value
Good Van, great price. Lots of power.
poor engine quality
we didn't expect it to perform like a Honda, but we were hoping for atleast Winstar quality...we got yugo! To date, we have replaced: a #2 engine cylinder 2 (TWO) catalytic converters the drivers seat belt/airbag system an oxygen sensor the driver's cup holder (TWICE) (which is insult to injury b/c they brag about their cup holders) and the factory stereo each fix requires 2 trips to the dealer...with a long wait in between for the part to arrive This vehicle has only 33,000 miles on it DO NOT PURCHASE this vehicle (check milage of vehicles people gave high ratings...everything fell apart at 20,000 miles)
Sedona
Definitely the best buy for the features offered! Comfortable ride, spacious, versatile!
Great buy for the money
Only had it for about 2 1/2 weeks, but like it so far. Have a couple of problems still trying to get resolved with dealer. One being the keyless remote works sporadically and you have to be right on top of the van for it to work. Anyone else experience this? Please email me if so. Got this van for 22,500 fully loaded! I mean fully loaded, not another option was available.
Great Ride for the money
Compared to other mini vans out there, the Kia Sedona is a lot of van for the money. There are a lot of items that come standard in the kia, such as the rear air and power locks, that is optional in many other mini vans. I was really surprised at how well the van travels on the highway. It was a smoothe fast ride. The breaks have squeaked from the first few months. We had them checked and we were told that it is nothing to worry about. The trunk is a little hard to pull down. Other than that, we are very pleased.
Alaska Highway Ready!
I bought a Kia Sedona EX, leather, sunroof, ABS included, in May 2002. That summer I drove it from Wisconsin to my home in Alaska. The following year I drove it down to Iowa and back to AK again. On both trips I was towing a small cargo trailer and the Kia had plenty of power. My wife and I, along with two teenage girls and a dog made each trip. Believe me the Alaska Highway will test any road vehicle and the Sedona performed great. I have had ZERO PROBLEMS with the vehicle.I would make the same purchase again without hesitation.
Flimsy accelerator
Every this about this van is very good except the gas peddal. It is very light and should be replaced.
David vs. Goliath
Any moron who is willing to pay 15K+ or more for a comparable equipped Dodge, Ford, Pontiac, or Honda should deserve to pay for the name. David beats Goliath - no contest.
great van
The best mini van at any price, and i have tried them all,i reaaly love it.
I think I made a mistake
Like others - we purchased the Sedona because of the price. My wife and I have had it in the shop at least 3 times for the air conditioner. Now, the steering column makes a clunky noise. They ordered a "new steering column". Then... THEY SOLD OFF KIA - the next nearest dealer is about 90 minutes away. I'm not feeling too good about the purchase. Also, the windshield cracked and cracked quickly.
A Really Great Van
This van was purchased in August of 2002, because my grandmother needed to get a wheelchair lift for her cart for the back of the van. They were a little unhappy that they had to buy this van though, because they were the kind of people that would only buy GM or Ford. But Kia had the best price. 6 years later, they would easily buy another Sedona. They love and so do I. This van has such a great ride, looks cool, a strong engine, and very comfortable seats. I was only 10 when they bought this and didn't know much about cars then, but I fell in love with this van so much that I started doing research on Kia, and know, all that I will ever buy is a Kia.
RoadTrip
We have had our van since July 27,2001. It has been a great van and we love it. We have made three trips to Arizona with absolutely no problems. We had been looking for a new van for 6 months or so and we were getting frustrated with dealerships. I was getting the oil changed on my 2001 Rio when I saw the Sedona. I called my wife and had her meet me at the dealership. Lake Manawa Kia in Council Bluffs IA was the best to deal with. They gave us exactly what we needed for our trade in(that was the problem with the other dealers) and we also got the 1.9% financing for 5 years. We were out the door for only $23,000 with a full loaded van.
Kia Sedona
After visiting all the other Minivan dealers and looking at what they were offering compared to the Kia Sedona, their was no doubt in mine and my wifes mind that the Sedona was our first choice.
Great Car for Great Price
This is a good car! We had a suburban and had to down size -- that's what we thought. Of course we gave up room, but this car made up for that in so many ways. I love the warranty. In the Suburban we were spending thousands a year to fix it -- it was a 1999 too. Now we've got a 2003 Sedona with a great warranty. After trading in the suburban, we only had to borrow a few thousand dollars for a new car. It's a great buy.
One Great Van
I love my new van. I used to own a '00 Ford Expedition. It was a gas guzzling nuisance. I test drove the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Crysler T&C, Ford Windstar and the Mazda MPV and was pretty close to buying one of those but was never enthused about any of them. I cam across Kia because my mother bought a Volvo and Kia was right next to it. I figured what the hech and went to test drive one, I signed the dotted line that day. Loved it the first time I rode in it. Price was never the reason I purchased since my two previous vehicles were at the 38K mark. I just loved it!
great van!!
I've had little problems with my van at all - and I've put it through some serious testing. I've had great service at the service dept. and they have done way more than I ever expected. I have friends that have more problems with their Toyota Camry and GMC truck than I have with my Kia. It's our first new car and we couldn't be happier!
