Kia has winner in the Sedona
I bought the Kia Sedona EX, all options for $21,500 Everything is perfect. It drives great & is very quiet. As a service to those who are in the market for a minivan, I offer the following to consider: #1. You would have to pay $7,000 to $10,000 extra to get a comparable mini van from Honda, Toyota, Dodge #2. The only real question mark concerns the quality and reliability of the Sedona. To put my mind at ease, I talked to 3 different Kia mechanics, from 3 different dealers, and they all said the same thing The Sedona is the first vehicle Kia has produced that meets the Japanese in initial quality and reliability.
2002 Kia Sedona - Great Value
Purchased Kia Sedona based upon the great price and features it offered. Most other minivans with Rear Air Conditioning (needed for young children) were around $22,000 - $24,000. Only complaint is that on the EX model, it doesn't have keyless entry and the "unlock all door" feature only works on the Driver Side door (which differs from what the owner's manual says). Other than that we have been pleased with the van.

Best van ever
I have owned several mini vans-all GM's.The Kia is way above these in quality and price. The van is exceptional in design in and out and I look forward to spending several years driving this vehicle. Handling and fit/finish are excellent. Gas mileage is so so. Probably because the van is so heavy and has earned 5 stars across the board for crash worthiness!
Like it
Excellent overall value. My wife loves the vehicle. Could use more braking power considering its weight. Lacks get-up-and-go. Fuel efficiency is poor. Handles very well and conveniently converts from passenger vehicle to hauler with minimal strain.
Nice minivan!
I bought my Kia Sedona in November 2001. I did have one problem about two weeks later when the moon roof decided to open on it's own. I took it back to a Kia dealership and it was repaired quickly and I've had no other problems. Oh, the dealer who sold me the Sedona said it had anti-lock brakes and when I got mine home, it was brand new, including the wrapping paper, I found out this EX version did not have anti- lock brakes. Grrr. But, I am still happy with my Kia Sedona.
Great Mini-van
Have had our Sedona EX for 2 weeks and my wife loves it. Compared every mini- van on the market, and except for the bad gas mileage, this was a clear winner for us. Got every option and am impressed with the overall quality of the finish, quality of the leather, smooth power, etc. 10 year warranty was a big selling point as we plan to keep the van for at least six years and the peace of mind of the long warranty is a big factor. Also felt the KIA was a little sportier than other vans, especially with the rear spoiler and sunroof. Find myself wanting to drive it a lot, and I never wanted a mini-van to start with.
What can I say
Purchased our 2002 Kia Sedona new from show room floor. Ran well for first year and then the problems started. Loud humming from front end. Dealer said tires, turned out to bad defective boots. Alternator died at 62,000 during a highway drive at 65 mph. 80,000 miles, car begins to surge forward and loose power. Check engine light came on - dealer has no idea on problem. Been in shop a number of times to diagnose issue. Unsafe vehicle at this time which I would not have my family in anymore. Went out and purchased a Toyota Sienna Limited after owning a Tundra as well. What a world of difference. My 98 Pontiac Montana w/replace transmission was more reliable then this KIA piece of junk!!
Pleasantly surprised
My Sedona has 10,200 miles on it and it is still as smooth and quiet as brand new. I never really liked minivans, but as my kids are getting bigger, the room is needed. I'm glad I purchased this vehicle because it drives well and I can haul lots of goods.I think in anothr couple of years and a few improvements, the Sedona is going to set the standard for minivans.
Buy a Sedona or give your money away...
I waited 3 months before review. Thoroughly pleased. Power is incredible. Gas mileage could be better, but people must understand the box-frame, which will be there to save your lives if you need it - not ound elsewhere & accounts for the weight. Great ride, got everything save for leather & spoiler. $22K even. Pay $25K+ for Honda/Toyota/Ford? Why? More stylish in biased opinion than all others 'cept for maybe the Grand Caravan (at $30K+). Nice wheels. Super body styling. Nice dark privacy glass. Big seats - easy removal. Obscene warranty! GREAT roadside service used once - I missed that one of the boys left the light on and the battery drained.
Great car, iffy service
Overall, we are happy with our purchase. The mini van is comfortable and fun to drive, especially with the leather package and sun roof. We have had a bad experience with the dealership. The radio broke the day after we got it and they made us wait a long time for a new one. (Do not jump start a Sedona without disconnecting the radio from the circuit panel!! Apparently the dealer jumped the car the night before we bought it and it ruined the stereo) Now the privacy glass is bubbling and we need a new window. A few inconvieniences, but we are pleased with our decision to buy the Sedona.
KIA SEDONA
THE PRICE IS RIGHT AND THE QUALITY IS ON THE MONEY
I Lied
After owning Kia Sportage & finding out the depreciation I said "I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER KIA". 3 yrs old, 60K miles and worth only $3.5K to $4K on trade at 6 dealers. I found this out after falling for the SEDONA. Tax, tag, title, out the door for $14,500 & my 1999 Sportage. May have done better with more time (had to leave for daughters wedding in 1 hr). 1,800 miles since purchase 11 days ago. We Love It. Highway 75-85mph 19.75mpg and climbing. 1st tank 16.3mpg.
New Sedona for family of five
My husband and I just bought a Kia Sedona EXb(2002) with ABS,leather,two- tone(black/BR.Platinum),homelink,and rear spoiler. We paid 22449 before taxes. The van is gorgeous and functional especially for a family with a five yr old, a three yr. old, and a 10 month old. And a dog. We look forward to traveling many miles in our van and plan God willing to keep it until its 100000 mile warranty is gone .
Best Value
Good Van, great price. Lots of power.
Sedona
Definitely the best buy for the features offered! Comfortable ride, spacious, versatile!
Great buy for the money
Only had it for about 2 1/2 weeks, but like it so far. Have a couple of problems still trying to get resolved with dealer. One being the keyless remote works sporadically and you have to be right on top of the van for it to work. Anyone else experience this? Please email me if so. Got this van for 22,500 fully loaded! I mean fully loaded, not another option was available.
Great Ride for the money
Compared to other mini vans out there, the Kia Sedona is a lot of van for the money. There are a lot of items that come standard in the kia, such as the rear air and power locks, that is optional in many other mini vans. I was really surprised at how well the van travels on the highway. It was a smoothe fast ride. The breaks have squeaked from the first few months. We had them checked and we were told that it is nothing to worry about. The trunk is a little hard to pull down. Other than that, we are very pleased.
great van
The best mini van at any price, and i have tried them all,i reaaly love it.
Flimsy accelerator
Every this about this van is very good except the gas peddal. It is very light and should be replaced.
2002 EX
I purchased a 2002 EX with a $1000 rebate. The rebate made this deal to tempting. The Sedona rides well and has a ton of creature comforts. Everything from auto head-lights to power seats. The LX is nice too but the EX had to many extra's for a small difference in price.
My Sedona
A lot of "bang for your buck". I test drove the Windstar, Montana, Venture and the Caravan. None were as attractive as the Sedona in looks or in price. I purchased the EX Luxury model. (with leather an sunroof). Most standard features on the Sedona were optional on all other vehicles, which, of course drove the cost out of reach. A very smooth ride and with the ABS feature and front wheel drive, made for some easy handling in snow and ice conditions.
Do Not Buy a Kia
This van has been a complete piece of junk from day one. Gas mileage is horrible. Transmission went at 15,000 miles. Front Brakes need to be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. A/C system has been completely replaced and still does not cool well and is extremely noisy. The following also have been replaced: Alternator, Front Hub Bearings (twice), front struts, front stabilizer links, rear heater lines, accelerator cable and battery. Do not buy this van unless you like visiting the service department very often. Worst automobile purchase I have ever made. A PIECE OF JUNK!!!
Awesome Van
Not only is thsi van fun to drive, good looking and powerful - it is one of teh safest minivans made! I am VERY happy having bought this Van, and am having LOTS of fun with it! I iwsh it were a little more fuel efficient, but then I may not be able to tow. LOVE my Kia Sedona!
Great deal
We just bought our new Sedona and are delighted with it. We paid 22k for an EX with leather, sunroof, homelink and ABS. We got the 0% financing for 3 years so that's an added bonus.
so far, so good
We bought our Kia Sedona EX in July 2002 and have put about 1000 miles on it, both city and highway driving Massachusetts. It has leather interior, ABS, sunroof, homelink and two tone paint. We were amused by the professional reviews saying that the van had sluggish acceleration. We don't know what the reviewers were comparing it to, but compared to our old mini-van this car has plenty of pick up and go. We baby-sit our grandkids and have two carseats to contend with when we pick them up. The dual sliding doors are convenient especially for loading and unloading the toddlers. We're still learning about the van's features but we are pleased so far.
Excellent Value
We love the Van - its a great volue and after one month would consider buying another KIA Vehicle. We spent a month reviewing the Honda, Toyota and Mazda vans and found them to be as much at $10,000 more in price. So the seats fold down in the back and the sliding doors have auto windows. - this was not worth the difference in price. The van has a lot of power the 3.5L engine moves in a heart beat and with 7 adults it can move. KIA has the best value and van in the market. The warrantees are excellent. I recommend a Buy!
Could this be a GREAT minivan?
An interesting vehicle. Very heavy, and drives smoothly and comfortably as befits a heavy. Gas mileage suffers a bit as a result (a real 20). Drivetrain is outstandingly smooth and powerful - surprisingly so. 195 horses and a FIVE speed automatic contribute to that. ABS brakes feel a bit spongy but work fine. Handling is quite neutral, with pronounced torque steer only when accelerating hard. Interior is well laid out and comfortable and only a bit cramped for very big drivers. It's an enormous amount of van for the money.
Kia Sedona is worth looking at
This is a great family van. We just recently purchased this van and we could not be happier. Luxury interior and lots of special features have surprised everyone we have shown this van to. Dont' shy away from this van because of the reasonable price. It is just a great van at a great price. We now own 2 Kia's (the other is a Sportage) and we're very happy.
Wait and see
I bought a 2002 Sedona EX in May 2002. I love the way it drives. It handles well and is tight and solid. However in the last five months the dealer has had the car almost as much as I have. For several different evelectrical problems. So far they have replaced the alternater, radio, keyless entry receiver, and the power seat switch. It took three visits to the dealer and a total of 8 weeks. They provided a rental car so I didn't loose anything. But at this point its going to take a while to build any kind of confidence in the car. I hope I don't have anymore problems becuase I really like the car, and don't want to get rid of it.
Sedona
I Have 13000 miles on it with no problems. My grill has a spot that is pealing the black paint away. I have driven from DC to Texas with no problems. I think it has good acceleration. Just wish the gas malage was better.
Great Mini Van
We were thinking of buying a new van and on the first day out we drove the Kia and signed the papers that evening. I had already gone out on the web and investicated the different vans and prices. The ride and comfort of the Sedona was great and made our decision for us. It was also nice that it had a five star crash rating. Also the factory warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles was a great incentive.
Happy with the van but...
Has anyone had a stress crack on the windshield? We are testing this warranty, and so far, the dealer says it's a rock, which didn't leave a mark, and hit in just the right spot. We will see if the dealer replaces the windshield. Thus far, the van has been great. The after market DVD has worked well, but has some noise.
Pleased with our Sedona
Solid, Runs Great, It's my wifes, and she loves it too, EX model, leather, sun roof, CD player etc. and still paid just over $20,000 , Great warranty, biggest complaint is gas mileage, but at least it runs on regular, when I was checking on Toyota and Honda they both had to have premium, Honda has changed that since. Could not deal with overpriced Honda also hearing more and more complaints about Odyssey anyway. Might have considered a Sienna if price was right.
So Far an Excellent Choice
We bought our first Kia this month. What a great vehicle. The quality of the vehicle and the options make this van a great package for the money. We have only put about 500 miles on the van to date but so far it's a keeper.
Sooooo Glad
I am a new owner and I must say, I love this Minivan. It's comfort can only be compared to the top sellers. It's look is very impressive to the eye, it's price is the best part of all. I hated driving my 2000 Ford Expedition. It is huge and cumbersome to drive, ya should have seen me trying to put my baby in the car seat, had to get in the truck. The Sedona is easy access from both sides. I could easily afford all of the top brand and I test drove them all, I even put a $1000 deposit on a Honda and changed my mind at the last minute after driving the Kia
Value A++
In comparison, being that you can't touch a minivan from one of the BIG 3 for under 34K, makes a loaded EX a great value! We got everything that was offered except two-tone paint and the rear spoiler, and we paid $32,100.00 including tax and all.
Excellent Value
We were determined to by a domestic van when we heard about Kia's 5 year warrantee. Having not seen a Sedona, our curiousity lead us to our local Kia dealer. We liked the look so I proceeded to take a deeper look. The underbody is much 'beefier' and the quality finish and feel, inside & out, was most impressive; as good as any other we seen out there. And to top it all a fully loaded unit at several thousands of dollars less than a competitor's equivalently loaded unit! We purchased our EX 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it. It is comfortable, roomy, handles well and the engine powerful. Surprisingly, we achieved 22.5 mpusg, 50/50 city and highway in our 1st 650 miles of engine breakin!
New Kia Customer
Have about 700 miles on our new Sedona and are very pleased. The price was unbeatable. Only problems so far are a low "moaning" noise on occasion when AC is on and the motor is idling, and the remote lock system sometimes requires shutting one or two doors several times before getting an "all shut" signal. Have yet to return to the dealer to have these looked after.
1st Mini Van
I bought this van on 7/27/02 as it currently has 1300 miles on it. I have not had any problems except for a little rattle coming from the drivers side dash area. It's a great van compared to other vans I've drove and researched. The price is great. The gas miledge is poor. I guess I'm use to driving my BMW which I can go 400 miles before I have to refill compared to 200 on the Sedona LX. Hopefully this Kia will hold up. Never thought I would be buying a Kia use to BMW's, Toyota's. But when I saw the KIA SEDONA I know I had to get it based on the price and the standard features!!
Best Budget Minivan
Uninformed reviews say this is Sedonas first year. It has been manufactured in Korea as the Carnival for over five years. Most kinks are gone. A lot of research went into this one. We bought a Blue 2002 EX with ABS, Moonroof, Cloth seats, and one-tone finish for $21.8K. We took it from Omaha to St Louis for a week and back and loved it the whole way.
Great deal
Just picked up my new Kia Sedona EX yesterday. We love it. We got ABS, Leather and Homelink for 21,500 + tax. Has many nice features. Rides well, easily power enough for minivan drivers. Unlike several other comments I read, we got 2 keyless remotes w/o even asking. Leather is sufficient, not like a Cadillac but very nice. We also got two-tone paint which makes the car look much more expensive. Not quite as roomy as some vans you can find, but for us (and for the $8,000 in savings) it's fine. I would definitely recommend this vehicle. Hopefully we won't have to use the great warranty.
My vans better than your van!
Can't believe that anyone would pay more money for a Chrysler, Honda, or Ford minivan.Have had my Kia since July, put on over 6,000 miles. My friends who drive Lexuses are envious! Drives like a dream, very pwrfl A/C and heater.Great sndsystm, very comfy seats etc.The Kia didnt offer a DVD systm at time I bought mine. For about $1200 we had screens inst. in the headrests, a dvd player inst. under the driver seat, cordless headsets for the back put in using infrared sensor.I can control the systm from the front with our hand- held cntrl. We get the luxury of driving a Kia, having a sunroof, and a dvd system and I paid less than I could of with any other minivan!
Got a Sedona 1
I just picked up our new blue/beige Sedona EX today with 24 mile on the ticker. I was worried about getting a Kia because of their past history of building unremarkable cars. I bought the Sedona because I was impressed by the content per dollar vs the other vans we were considering and my positive first impression. We looked at vans from Honda, Mazda, Chrysler, Toyota. Everybody wanted too much money for a van with any kind of options. Even with some rebates on the others the Kia still won out. Now the big question is, will we have to USE that fantastic warranty Kia has or will the van be reasonably trouble free. I will keep you posted.
I LOVE MY KIA
I LOVE THE WAY THE FIVE SPEED TRANNY RIPS THREW THE GEARS WHEN I PUNCH IT SOUNDS LIKE A SPORTS CAR. I THINK KIA SHOULD PUT THE FIVE SPEED IN THE NEW SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE THEY ARE INTRODUCING NEXT YEAR (sorrento)
great milage/great value
my 10th new car, best i ever bought. paid 21,000 with tax and still saved $ 4000 from cost of dodge van with v6. tires are heavy duty, 44 PSI rated. WIth 42 PSI i am getting 20 mpg with air conditioning on, even when stuck in traffic jams! would reccommend to anyone that wants a safe ,fun, long term relationship. last van was 1999 GMC Safari. Kia is far more comfortable and just as powerful.
One happy owner
We bought our van 4 months ago. I have been driving a five speead for 5 years. I was worried about switching to an automatic. BUt this van is great. the pickup is excellent. I am never worried about not having enough power. I drove other vans, like the Odessey and Town & Country. I like the Sedona better hands down. The Odessey which has 240 hp feels much more sluggush than the Sedona. The interior is very nice we have an EX with leather. We got such a great price on it also. It is very comfortable!! I am now looking forward to the Sorrento. I can't wait to check it out. I would highly recommend this van.
Sedone Saved Our Lives!
My husband and I were traveling to New Hampshire from Pennsylvania and were bumped off the road by a tractor trailer hauling a flatbed full of lumber! Our Sedona was up to the challenge, and took the blow from the steel of the flatbed extremely well. We also took out 60 feet of guardrail, and though the exterior was obviously smashed, the engine actually kept running for a short while--long enough for us to move the car to safety. It was totaled, and we're going out to buy another Sedona!
Great Mini-Van ! Small Problem
This van is awesome and fun to drive. It has all the features of vans 6K more. We have 4k miles on it and no problems yet except a stress cracked windshield. We were driving on the road and heard a sound like a rock hitting the windshield. The problem is that there was no car or truck in front of us. Two 8 inch cracks appeared toward the bottom of the windshield where the defrosters lays. I am taking it to the dealer monday to see if they belive me. There is no nick or any evidence of a rock chipping where the crack starts. I have seen other reports of this problem. Beside's the windshield the van is a great buy.
Great for a minivan
I bought the Sedona because we needed the practical family vehicle. It came fully loaded with leather seats for under $23,000. It fits the five us nicely, but is lacking in the trunk space dept. like all other minivans. It has a very smooth ride and I like the pickup and handling. Sleek style too! Used it to go on a road trip, and logged in 1200 miles within the first week, nice and comfortable.
RoadTrip
We have had our van since July 27,2001. It has been a great van and we love it. We have made three trips to Arizona with absolutely no problems. We had been looking for a new van for 6 months or so and we were getting frustrated with dealerships. I was getting the oil changed on my 2001 Rio when I saw the Sedona. I called my wife and had her meet me at the dealership. Lake Manawa Kia in Council Bluffs IA was the best to deal with. They gave us exactly what we needed for our trade in(that was the problem with the other dealers) and we also got the 1.9% financing for 5 years. We were out the door for only $23,000 with a full loaded van.
