Pretty Sweet Ride

I said I would never drive a minivan but really needed the space of a van and then boom Kia comes out with this MPV Carnival. If you ask why they decided to call it that its because the kids are the circus thats my thought anyways. This Carnival has lots of leg room for all passengers in the second and third row. The seats will actually slide up and back for more or less room as well. It can hold 8 passengers but the middle second row seat can be removed to have captain seats and make easy access to the 3rd row. All the tech in the front is great. The front could have more storage space but over all I still love it. I am very unpleased with the entertainment system in the second row. The car itself does not have wifi so you can't use it unless you have a Hotspot. I am also currently having some issues with it randomly wanting to turn off while using it and the screen sometimes gives off a fuzzy resolution. There is only YouTube and Netflix on the system which I believe there should be more streaming options or I should be able to stream anything I want from my phone but unfortunately that is not an option. I would have been fine with a DVD player in the back so kids could watch what they want whenever and not hace to worry about connecting the system to wifi. The ride is great and very smooth. Overall great vehicle but there are definitely some things I would change or could have been better from a moms perspective and at the price point its at. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to other moms.

New car with recalls and Kia dropped the ball

In July, I put down a deposit for a new 2022 Kia Carnival. 4 months later on October 27, I picked it up at Safford Kia of Fredericksburg. On November 16, I dropped off our daughter at school, and as I drove out of the parking lot, the side door slid open by itself. It took 2 hours before I could actually get the door to shut and latch. I drove it to Kia of Woodbridge (the closest Kia) so they could look at it. A couple of hours later a service tech says “we were able to replicate what happened and see that the door doesn’t latch. We put in a part order and see that there is a nation wide back order for the part.” I called the dealership I bought it from - left multiple messages. Got a call back from the sales man telling me it wasn’t his fault and he wanted to be sure I knew. I called and emailed Kia headquarters and executives - nothing. Kept calling and emailing- finally heard from Kia that because it was a safety issue, “we’ve escalated it to Jeff”. Not sure who Jeff is because we haven’t heard a word from Jeff and it certainly wasn’t escalated. After another week of reaching out, I got a call from someone who kept telling me she “understood” my concern about the safety of a brand new car that I drove with our 7 year old in, with a door that didn’t secure And could just open. She just kept saying I understand but nothing has really happened. We checked our lemon law and told Kia we wanted them to buy the car back. Safety didn’t seem to be a priority, communication was horrible, and the entire experience has been beyond disappointing. “I understand” is all we have heard for weeks. The lemon law essentially says if a car sits for 30 days unusable that is a reason a car can be bought back by the company. Well surprise - on December 15 (29 days after the door slid open) it’s now a safety recall for the Carnival and fixed. What a miracle - that it can be fixed - 1 day shy of the 30 days. How so very convenient for Kia. We joke now that our problems will just be escalated to Jeff. They won’t get solved but they are escalated so - we’re good. I write this sitting in Kia of Woodbridge as they prepare a check to buy my car for a few hundred dollars less than I paid for it. I know they will flip it today and sell it for $5000 more at least. It’s a rare SX version with a tow hitch - I order exactly what I wanted. This entire process has me tired, sad, and disappointed. Kia didn’t care about safety - if they did they would have owned up right away. Kia didn’t care about us - if they did they would have returned an email or voicemail message. At the least - “Jeff” would have called since it was “escalated to him”. They got their money at one dealership and will manage to get even more at another one. I’m not done with Kia - they still owe me money, but the car is back in their hands and I don’t have to worry about whether a door will open or not when it shouldn’t. The only good out of this was the service department at Kia of Woodbridge who was handed a lemon and did the best they could to make things right - it wasn’t their problem. I will never set foot in a Kia again and I’m still waiting for Kia and “Jeff” to do what is right. I’m sure it will happen soon, it was after all escalated to Jeff.

Attractive Junk

2022 Kia Carnival SX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

This vehicle has some issues, but it's biggest issue is Kia Customer Care. It's brand new and already subject to two recalls. The outlets don't work (minor issue) and there's a faulty fuel pump which makes it a safety hazard to drive. It could have been a simple fix but there are no parts available. Kia blames the dealership. The dealership blames Kia. No one from Kia will call back after NINE days, and there has been no progress made whatsoever. No rental car or loaner vehicle is being provided. Buyer beware! If you do buy it, choose a local dealership you know and trust. Also, there's no Kia tow hitch currently available.

An okay car

Not much leg room on the passengers side. Some of the controls are in weird locations so you actually have to look for them while you are driving, which means your head is down alot while moving. We have the rear video screens, the Kia ad says it comes with wireless headphones, it doesn't, you have to buy your own. Every time you turn the car off, you need to reconnect them to your Bluetooth, very annoying with little kids. Winter time driving is absolutely horrendous with these piece of crap Continental tires. I give them a -3 on a 1-5 scale rating. No traction at all on the tiniest amount of snow. Less than 1/8" and you are spinning. Get some freezing rain in there and you are not going anywhere. The second row cup holders are in a location where the cups hit the driver and passengers elbows, very annoying. The middle row reclining seats are a cool feature but takes up alot of room to use, not worth it if you have more than four people or are hauling stuff behind this row as the seats are not removable like the lower priced version. I love the interior coloring though. Some of the electronic temperature controls revert back to a factory setting, so once you turn the car off, you need to reselect how you want the airflow. It has some really neat exterior features though, from the driver assisted screen cameras, to how the doors will automatically unlock and open if you are standing next to that door with a key fob.

A great family vehicle with a few shortcomings

Adam Adams, 08/15/2021

Bought ours 3 weeks ago and took it for a 7600 miles coast-to-coast-coast family road trip. I wanted an SUV but my wife prefers a minivan, so this is a great compromise! To keep things in perspective, we've had our Sienna for 15 years with over 200,000 miles so this is a huge upgrade for us. Overall a great vehicle, many great features but there are a few annoying ones. To start with the positives - looks really nice with useful features (the many cameras, safety features etc). - Engine is decent, we got an average of about (per onboard computer: 24 mpg) with mostly highway driving. - Seats are, generally, comfortable for long trips. It fits the 4 adults + 2 teens comfortably. - wish they had an AWD version. On the negative side - They could have done a better job with the touch buttons under the media center that are too sensitive to accidental touches. The app cluster panel seems disorganized. For sure these take time to get used to, I wish it were more intuitive. - The entertainment system sucks big time unless you use Android devices. And why this system isn't made as a stand alone without requiring a wifi connection is difficult to comprehend. - No wireless Apple Carplay!??? Incomprehensible. - The second row seat mechanics are poorly engineered making getting into the 3rd row more difficult than it needs to be. I have had the backrest slammed in my face trying to adjust the seats. - The wireless access through the app (UVO) is nice but I don't understand the delay in command execution. It takes 1-2 minutes for the remote start to execute, lock/unlock etc. - I wish for more door/side storage pockets. I love the Odyssey side storage and shelves and on the sliding doors and I especially love the new Sienna's center console storage. MAJOR GRIPES!! I found these really non-logical trim decisions - No roof rails (only on the SX). And even for SXs with roof rails, no crossbars!! We had to opt for aftermarket products. - The rear bumper could have been made an inch wider to allow for safe stepping onto when we need to reach for the rooftop cargos. It's only about an inch wide when the liftgate is closed so stepping on it can be precarious. - The tow hitch is only 6-7 inches above ground, I've had a few incidents of it grazing the streets on steep bumps. In summary, the car looks good for a minivan that looks and feels like an SUV but it does have a number of shortcomings. Overall, we've been happy with the purchase.

Mostly looks, not convincing in other areas

Overall a nice car, but a number of annoying details that make us regret our choice To start with the positives - looks good, some nice gadgets (like the camera / microphones to talk with the rear passengers). - Engine is decent from a power perspective but not very fuel efficient. On the negative side - Seats (front) are not great for long trips. - Relatively noisy - not the engine but the wheels - The touch buttons under the media center are misplaced and way too sensitive. More than once you will accidentally touch one of these buttons which will take you to a place in the Interface you didn’t want to get to and then you have to use the clumsy interface on the screen itself to get back to where you were / wanted to go. - No wireless Apple Carplay (only the cheapest edition (LX) with the smaller screen has that for some mysterious reason). That is ridiculous in a 2022 car - The second row seat mechanics are poorly engineered. Getting to the third row is not easy. As we use this daily with our family of 7, this is a major frustration. It is easy to have the rails for the seating misaligned if you want to take them out. I have had the back rest slam my face trying to adjust the seat with it being stuck in a certain position. - Iffy electronics. As one example: More than once I have had that the car doesn’t want to lock with a non-comprehensible accessory warning. The only thing that helps is to restart the car and turn it off again. Very annoying. - The wireless access through the app (UVO) is essentially useless. It takes minutes to process a command (e.g remote start). By the time you get to the car, it is still waiting and when you then open the door, it concludes a minute later that it couldn’t do it. In addition to that if you try minutes later something else, it will randomly complain that the “previous command is still being executed”. Compared to my other car (a BMW), this is not ready for prime time Non-logical trim decisions - No roofrails (only on the SX and up). Need to opt for aftermarket solutions as Kia is not willing to help. Weird decision. The rest just need to glue the roofbox to the car? . SX prestige only as 7 seater configuration. Another weird choice as a lot of useful features are only available in the SX Prestige and you can’t get those options in the SX or lower. - Wireless charger is hit and miss - with a standard iPhone it works 50% of the time. It has to be aligned perfectly. - ‘Ceiling panel’ non-illuminated - if you are parked in a dark spot and would like to use the dome light, it is easy to trigger the Uvo service through that same panel instead. Poor choice. As a summary, the car looks good for a van but it does have a number of shortcomings that are really annoying (at least for us) in day to day use and there are better alternatives out there. Not recommended after a month of intense usage.

Spacious and elegant.Too many features to list. I love the huge screen especially for navigation. Plenty of stow areas in rear and every seat has its own USB port. There is a 110 outlet in the very back and on the dash. I wish the center console had a few more pockets on the sides as there's only one big tray on driver and passenger doors. Drives really well. Picks up speed in a snap and very tight turning radius. All the rear doors can be opened and closed from driver's seat. The top view camera is very helpful in parallel parking and in tight parking lots. Overall my wife is very pleased, and I enjoy driving it as well. She refuses to call it a "mini van" and refers to it as a "sports van"

When we bought our Carnival it looked so nice from our first impression. Within a week or so of owning it we started noticing random things. Weather stripping came loose from the inside of the windshield and above the sliding door, door will close on a child with no safety sensors, radio comes on at odd times for no reason, engine shut off on the highway, super loud wind noise on the interstate, most uncomfortable seats ever. After a few weeks the whole care just started feeling cheap. We decided to take the loss and trade it in on a better, higher quality vehicle.

I am a mom of 4 rapidly growing kids. We are a blended family and they are ages 10, 12, 12 and 14. So a third row was obviously needed. I hated the idea of a minivan. Didn't want to make the jump from an SUV to a van. So we started looking at our options. We had an older Mazda CX9. Which I honestly liked but the legroom in the back was starting to become an issue. We looked at the Traverse, Acadia, Pilot and Explorer. The third row just wasn't enough for the kids. I didn't want them to feel like squished sardines back there. Then we looked at the Odyssey and Sienna. They were nice and all but they just felt so overwhelming like...a minivan. Then for the price, you had to really empty the bank to get any of the nicer features on it. So then it was on to the Carnival. It had the best of everything. The room and convenience of a minivan but the style of an SUV. All of which came together without breaking the bank. It's very comfortable inside. The kids absolutely love it and love all of the USB ports everywhere. I also love the safety features and Android Auto. I don't feel like I'm driving around a "mommy mobile". It's a sharp looking and great feeling vehicle. So very happy I bought it!

it took 7 long years to get my wife into a minivan. We first purchased a 2019 Honda Odyssey thinking, "It's a Honda, it'll last forever." Well that couldn't be further from the truth. After 2 disappointing years and almost 20 visits to the dealership, we traded it in for the Carnival (SX). Everything about this "van" has been amazing. The looks, the tech, the comfort and the luxury have been all but disappointing. The only downfall for this van is that if you want a sunroof, you have to opt for the SX Prestige and with two kids, the SX Prestige is not the way to go because it only has the reclining seats in the middle. But overall, it's a great vehicle. UPDATE: we still LOVE this car. Amazing for road trips, great daily driver for hauling kids and stuff!

Amazing amount of cargo space. Plenty of room inside even in 3rd row for our 6’3” son. Love the features and the look. In a 100 mile trip averaged 30.8 mpg with 5 adults a large dog and cat and many cubic feet of cargo. We test drove the Telluride which we liked and then the Carnival which we both loved at first drive. We are very happy with this purchase. Thank you Kia.

This is our 5th Kia. We love Kia and loved our 2015 Sedona we traded in for the carnival. This was the biggest mistake I made. The car is complete junk, you can tell or is cheaply made. Within the first 2 weeks my dashboard was coming apart. I had to take in it 3 separate times to get fixed, pay for a rental car. The tires seem to skip when you drive-no traction in any weather. The button to change a song/station is backwards. My bumper already looks like its coming apart for no reason. We got the rear entertainment system and even though the price is the same in all the carnivals-the LXS has the crappier model tvs that are useless. The seatbelts also on the bucket seats worry me because they look like they are going to tear out of the seats. We’ve reached out to Kia corporate MULTIPLE times and they do not respond. Stay away! We were loyal Kia customers and after this purchase I think I have to rethink Kia.

Bought the top of the line Carnival from Bridgewater Kia in Bridgewater, NJ approximately 10 days ago and at first it was just cosmetic stuff the dealer didn't to the detailing work they should have, the car was dirty and had scratches on it. Now on two separate occasions when my wife pulled into our driveway I was blown away by the smell of burning antifreeze. I know from the detailing issue they couldn't give me a Carnival as a loaner because the one they had needed a new engine. This is a 2022 car and in the trim level that I purchased is nearly $50k. Already beside myself, but glad I bought in New Jersey with their lemon laws instead of Pennsylvania where I live. The good news for you is after reading this review there is really only 3 minivans to consider and none of them are Kia. Soooo... Since writing this review those issues were resolved roughly 13 months ago. Since then we haven't had any issues, and my wife loves the car. I wish we had gone with a lower trim assuming I still could have gotten the sunroof. The fancy middle seats need to be pushed to the center to fully recline and you can't have anybody in 3rd row. It's a useless party trick. But other than that it's been reliable since the early issues, it's comfortable, and we got the black on black rims which makes it the closest to "sexy" that any minivan will ever get.

This 'MPV' is exceeding expectations...not perfect, though no vehicle is. Drives like a dream and gets decent mpg for such a large vehicle. The tech integration is pretty incredible and far better than competitors and at a much better value. Safety features all work as intended, though the auto brake assist is a little over-eager when cars are turning in front of you. Seat comfort and flexibility is great, but middle captain chairs could be a little easier to slide. Only real compliant is the design and placement of the entertainment screens, which takes up some aisle space and almost interferes with the function of the seats sliding forward. Love having the 360 camera and power folding mirrors available on the SX (not the top model) too. Drive is very quiet and refined and this thing definitely gets some looks. Hoping for at least 10 great years!

I've had the LXS for 6 months and 2600 miles so cant comment yet on longevity. Have had no issues so far. The LXS is a base model with fake leather seats. It has wireless carplay that works flawlessly. I walk in start the car my google maps open on screen and my music starts playing. The interior is really nice with matte panel with huge buttons. Very easy to use. It has remote start in the base model. Personally I love the manual tailgate. Engine is powerful and gets the car up to highway speed quickly and quietly. The best feature is cargo space. I've used it occasionally as a pickup truck with 2nd row easily removed and a tarp to cover the floor. We've been on a mini road trip and fit 3 suitcases, 4 beach chairs, and a beach wagon with all 3 rows up. The biggest surprise is the handling. It drives a lot better than my mazda cx9. Downsides are wind noise at highway speeds, cheap paint has minor nicks from flying debris on hood, and having to deal with Kia dealerships. MPG has been around 19 in city and 24 highway. Update after 2 years. The car had one issue. It had a check engine light because the gascap wasnt screwed in while filing. The dealership reset the light and I now turn off my engine when filling up. I haven't seen an issue since. My mileage is 10k so hard to tell how it will perform down the road. The car feels new. Seats are amazing. No real complaints.

This Carnival has it all...looks, ride, quietness, comfort and roominess. We came from a great Nissan Quest, and this Carnival beats it, and all others we tested, including the Odyssey. 9-15-2022 -- It's been 19,000 miles and this van is a thrill to use and zip around. The comfort level is absolutely amazing, and we find our selves driving it more than our Chevy sedan. Upkeep has been simple, with 3 oil changes, and tire rotations. Just love it. Update, 3-18-2023: Nothing here to add, except that the Carnival keeps rolling with every pleasurable mile. Again, we've had 4 vans over the years, and the Carnival is the BEST.

I purchased the SX prestige On 4/6/21. Beautiful ride feels like the car is on rails when it is driving on all roads. Loaded with tech, and many safety features that you would not expect. I went with this model because it doesn’t look like the other boring minivans in it’s class.

Don't call it a minivan

If you hate minivans but need one out of convenience, this is the one for you. Stylish. Looks like an SUV but is roomier and has sliding doors. Feature packed. Smooth driving and ample power. It's gotten quite a few compliments from complete strangers (not that it matters but if that's your thing, cool). You can't go wing with going with a Honda or Toyota minivan. But if you are absolutely against buying a minivan but you have kids that love to ding doors parked next to your car, THIS Multi-Purpose Vehicle is the one to buy.

Not Gonna Pay That Much

I test drove and loved the Kia Carnival EX; unfortunately, with poor vehicle availability and this vehicle being new on the scene, some of these vehicles had sold near to my home for as much as 14% above MSRP! All the ones in my near area sold for MSRP or above. I decided I didn't love it enough to pay that much and even possibly get into a bidding war! Maybe some day, some year.........but not even at MSRP!

Took our brand new LXS on a 3k mile trip. Cargo area is very spacious, and interior was spacious enough for 4 adults, 1 teenager and a child with car seat on our 3k mile trip. Third row has lots of room for vehicle of its class. On cruise control we got avg 33 mpg and just over 500 miles to a tank of gas. A few cons that need to be addressed are apple car play constantly disconnects. Doesnt matter how many different cables I tried with Genuine apple cable, or which Iphone was connected. Car play would constantly disconnect. Radio would also turn completely black and flicker. Very unreliable when you are using your carplay with GPS. Another issue is when both front drivers and passenger windows are down just a few inches, windows would have a slight rattle. Extremely annoying when you are driving. If you have a hitch, there is not alot of ground clearance. Hitch will graze the pavement. I can deal with the grazing of pavement from the hitch, but issues with radio and window will have to be looked into. Other than that, great vehicle and great features for the price if the dealer does not charge you a insane markup over the MSRP

I have had this MPV for two years. I like the design, tech, and style of it. My favorite feature is the style, surround camera view, and sensors. Some cons are: sometimes it beeps at you while driving, but does not display why it beeped, which is very odd. Other times it does show a display and beep if temperatures are close to freezing. It lacks adequate size of storage areas, especially on the doors. It cannot fit a bottle of water or 20oz pop in door. The storage behind seats barely stretch to accommodate anything. It runs well but sometimes it lags with driving around 25 mph uphill and the shifting gets weird. One of the second row seats can only be adjusted when you are not sitting in it. Another super annoying thing on the second row seats is that if someone came out from the third row and did not put the second row seat in an upright position, it does not latch on the track and clunks back and forth while driving. Then you have to reach back and put second row seat’s back upright to lock it in place, if you cannot reach it you have to pull over and go to back seat to put it in an upright position. The service department with issues is just okay. The wait time is extreme. I’ve had issues with radar sensors and an extreme smell coming from A/C. My sensors did get fixed after the second visit. I was told you have to bring vehicle in for an issue more than one time before they can replace anything under warranty. That is ridiculous. After having sensor issue looked at sensor light came one two hours after appointment. So I had to wait 7 weeks to get back in for same issue. Finally it is fixed. Now I can use cruise control and automatic breaking/breaking warning system again. The smell with AC was not really fixed but it’s cold now. All in all it’s just okay. It does not do well in snow, tires wear out quickly. I replaced them after 25k miles. But it did not do well in snow even when tires were new. The sliding doors start to close and then always pause and restart from beginning while starting the car while someone is opening sliding doors.

Great car, spacious, comfortable and fun tech. The intelligent cruise control blew my mind! On a long trip, the seats a comfortable - maybe a little stiff, but I suspect they will break in. Love the passenger view and talk - handy feature for a carload. The wired Apple Carplay is a little annoying, but nothing detrimental. Driving this van is smooth and quiet. The stow away 3rd row is a really nice feature, but even with the seats up, the storage behind is ample.

Like it's look, rich in tech and features (bought the top trim), however, after driving 4 months, experienced issues : 1) fuel indicator not accurate when below the last quarter. While driving it shows 150-ish to empty, but after parking it over night, the distance to empty became 30-ish. 2) lack of low end torque 3) check engine light came on twice in cold weather (-18c) . the light went off next day, dealer cant find out why 4) infotainment system was completely unresponsive in cold weather after a cold start but went back to normal after the car warms up.

We have the Carnival LX. Road noise. Driver seat is average comfort. Gauges/speedometer difficult to see behind steering wheel. No Sirus XM Radio option or navigation. Can stream music when mirroring phone but if you hit area with poor cell service you lose maps and streaming music. Will reconnect sometimes but often goes to black screen. To reconnect when service improves, you have to shut the car down / engine off and start all over. It is roomy and navigates heavy rain/water better than or Chrysler Pacifica but Pacifica was more responsive and easier to navigate entertainment system. Why no satellite radio option or back up navigation? I just don’t understand. Oh well, we are stuck with it for a long time.

Everything feels and looks very modern and of high quality. I have already driven 20,000 miles without any problems. Very happy with the reliability so far.

Finally-Sliding Doors on a SUV

Finally a car manufacturer did what all moms have been asking for. We love the look of SUVs but needed sliding doors like a minivan, without it being a minivan. Thank you Kia for designing the very cool, stylish, and super safe Carnival that checks off everything on my must have list. I am a previous Telluride driver and I loved all the cool technology in that vehicle, but desperately needed sliding doors and more storage/carrying capacity. The Carnival has two captains chairs that can be put at any spot on the track and they not only slide back and forth on the track, but out width-wise as well. Now any height adult can easily walk into the third functional row. If a family has three or more kids, this vehicle is a must! The captains chairs are full loungers where again anyone over 6ft tall can actually recline, with feet elevated and not even come close to touching the driver or passenger seat. I am so looking forward to taking another adult couple out with our captain chair loungers. The kids love the built in TVs on the back of the driver/passenger seat and this will make our next long drive more enjoyable for mommy too. There is a passenger camera which is super cool so at any time from the driver view point I can see behind me without having to take my eyes off the road. Other really cool new features are that both the skylight windows open in the front and the back. The passenger windows open which is nothing I have seen in a minivan-hence this is a Multi Purpose Vehicle or I like to call it the Super Utility Vehicle! I am one impressed Kia repeat owner and I look forward to showing off the Carnival to all my mom friends!

Other than UVO not available in my state is the only issue at this time. Only 2400 miles so I will report later. Not a minivan edmunds. It is a MVP. 3/16/22: KIA does not allow MA 2022 model year owners to have UVO. Oil change (full synthetic ) required at 8,000 miles and then every 4,000. ???? Overheard dealer telling 22,000 mile customer that KIA may not be responsible for "cause of engine noise" because customer could not prove all oil changes done. Bought the top off the line carnival MPV (not minivan according to KIA) and still finding new things to play with. Changed backlight for buttons from blue to purple and can not figure out how to change. No one at KIA dealerships know.

Close but no match for Chevy Astro Van

I’m still driving my 2004 Chevy Astro Van in search of a replacement. I thought I found it with this KIA. Alas, as I did the build I could not add a roof rack on the model with the removable/flattened seats. You could only get the roof rack with jumbo premium seat package. Nuts!! Anyway my search continues for a van with maximum vertical interior storage, maximum length storage (i.e., no bulky console) so I can run 10’ lumber right up middle, AWD so I don’t launch van along with boat I tow with great tow package and lastly can pack kids in it when I need to. KIA, wake up!! You need to allow your van to be configured to allow maximum interior and exterior storage like the Astro.
