Used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Consumer Reviews
Great SUV... but know what you're buying
We bought our 2015 JGC Ltd. 3.6L V6 from a Navy officer who took great care of it in the two years he owned it. In general, our JGC was very reliable and great to drive... until around 140k miles. At that point, the breakdown of major components began and hasn't stopped now that we're around 160k miles. The list: Oil Filter Adapter/Cooler (holds the oil filter--made of incredibly brittle plastic--a part destined to leak frequently), Motor Mounts (filled with hydraulic fluid that eventually leaks), Thermostat (notorious for breaking long before 140k miles), PCV Valve (do yourself a favor and replace at 100k--ours became stuck open and fed oil into the air intake manifold, clogging up a fuel injector and leading to a host of downstream problems, including a fouled catalytic converter), Radiator (leaked), Transfer Case and its Control Module (a bad TCCM makes you consistently slam into second gear and causes weird clicking sounds), and the AC Condenser (leaked). The pernicious thing is that after 140k miles the breakdowns come as a slow dribble, which means the JGC is frequently being repaired. I'm an amateur mechanic and do most repairs myself at a small fraction of the dealership cost. If I'd been stuck going to the dealer, the repair costs would have been prohibitive. If you have one of these JGCs with high mileage (100k+), I would suggest DIY replacing as many failure-prone OEM parts as you can by no later than 120k miles. Buy quality aftermarket parts, then do the work all at once: Motor mounts, oil cooler, thermostat, fuel injectors/ignition coils (definitely replace those if you're getting a major tune-up because access is easy), PCV valve, radiator and AC condenser (always do together), water pump, and radiator hoses. Also, do not believe Jeep when they say the transmission fluid is "lifetime." ZF, the transmission manufacturer, recommends the fluid be changed at 120k miles for normal driving and 60k miles for severe driving. Your transmission will get choppy once you reach 120k miles without a fluid change. In addition, the recommended intervals for transfer case and differential fluid changes are too long. Change those every 60k miles. I’m now at the point where the front suspension is annoyingly creaky and the control arms all need to be replaced. I’ll be replacing the shocks/struts while I’m at it. A big project. It may seem like I'm being very critical of the JGC, but I actually love it. You can feel the Mercedes engineering influence. It's a great size, the Pentastar engine is smooth and powerful. And it handles well. But it's not a Toyota--parts are not designed to last forever. Be aware.

87,000 miles, No problems
I have approx 87,000 miles on my GC Laredo 2WD. I've taken it in a couple of times for recalls, replaced the tires twice and done oil changes and air filters as recommended. No other work needed.

what a ride
I feel the jeep is good and the sale people were top awesome. I would of change the nav unit to a Garmin with life time map and I would of put all the protective devices on the car . That they would not be options. Also I would of installed the full wiring harness in case they wanted to buy the options.
