Although the vehicle has plenty of space and is very good looking on the inside and out, it was a problem from the start. We bought are vehicle new with 15 miles on it. Within a week we had to take it back to the dealership due to all the lights coming on and major components such as blind spot and POWER STEERING shutting off. The end result, they had to change out the steering rack, which took about 3 weeks while we had a loaner. Once we got it back, we noticed the rear driver's side window continued to try to roll down when trying to roll it up. We took it to the dealer and they basically blamed our kids saying if they push on it, it can throw it out of calibration. They recalibrated it and as soon as we got home it began doing the same thing....without the kids ever being in the car!!! We took it back and they had to change out the window seal. Now we are basically just waiting for something else to go wrong!

As I read with some of the 2021 reviews (sadly not before ordering mine), it is just not ready for “prime time,” and I am heartbroken. On the day I picked it up after waiting impatiently for my dream car to arrive (I ordered a 2021 in Sept, but my 2022 arrive in Jan), so happy!! I am in love with everything about it. The way it looks, the way it drives (I got the hemi), the way the interior looks and feels, all of it. And then, my Summit Reserve’s check engine light came on. Surely it was a fluke, so I brought it to them to look at. Something to do with an “evap leak”. I get it back, so happy! A few weeks later, another check engine light that also went out after a couple of days. Brought it back again. A “kink in the evap hose”. Maybe another fluke? I picked it up in the afternoon. So happy! And then, In the morning, it wouldn’t start. It lit up like a Christmas tree…dash lights, symbols, and everything. I had to have it towed out of my garage and off It went back to the shop. They kept it for a few days. Couldn’t get it to repeat. After they charged the battery, and then replaced it, it worked fine. So now I’m wondering if it’s me? I pick it up, happiness has faded, but I still love it. So I drive it home. The next day, as I’m driving it, the power steering light comes on! Drowsy Driver system disabled. Blind spot system disabled. What. The. Heck!? I still had power steering until I went to park it to get off the road, and then it went out while parking. An hour later, I started it back up. Just fine. No lights. 10 minutes into the drive, back on. Now, I’m just terrified it’ll give out again. It’s currently back at the dealer. I have filed a lemon law claim. Not happy. My roller coaster ride I’m sure is far from over, and this feels like a bad relationship where I love my car, but my trust is so fractured. I asked the dealer’s service department if I was the only one. Nope. Only 1 of the 4 they sold has NOT had issues. (I’m not good at math, but those odds are terrible!) The master technician said there isn’t even any training for them on this thing. Not even sure if it needs some sort of software fix or what because yet again, It won’t repeat the issue for the technicians. I have a toddler, and I don’t even trust driving her to daycare less than 5 minutes away at this point. Not sure how it’ll play out, but save yourself the heartache and wait until they work out the insane amount of bugs.

This vehicle has been broken since day 1. We’ve only put 5000 miles on it and it’s been in the shop 6+ times. Battery dies every other week for no reason. Working to get it purchased back by jeep as a lemon.

I am so disappointed with this car. We had a regular Cherokee and LOVED it and were so excited when the L came out now that we have a family. About 6 weeks after we got it, several of the feature lights came on randomly and the parking sensors completely crapped out. The Apple Car Play regularly cuts in and out which is incredibly frustrating. Took it to the dealership, had to talk to three different people before we were finally able to get a loaner. We got it back and 3 weeks later, the same issues plus both key fobs and all of the memory settings failed. This time, we were told that Chrysler was coming out with a software update that “should hopefully fix things in Q3 or Q3.” What the heck? So I’m just supposed to hang out with this lemon of a car for the rest of the year until a software update maybe comes out that MIGHT fix things? Really unacceptable. Going to try and get out of the lease because this completely sucks.

The Lemon of all Lemons

If you're planning on buying this vehicle stay far far away. For the money you can get a more reliable car. We bought our Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve off the show room floor with 8 miles on it. We have had nothing but problems and issues since day 1. Should've known not to buy it when they couldn't get the car started due to the battery being dead. They finally get it started, check engine light is on. After driving it a bit, it went off. 1st week of having it our massaging seats didn't work, brought it in they fixed it. Week 2 our Bluetooth, Headunit didn't work, black screens all the time, phones not connecting, etc. Brought it in they said they fixed it and updated it. Worked for a week, same problems ever since (have owned the car about 8 months now) Week 3 our Navigation doesn't work on out dashboard screen anymore, it was "Display currently unavailable" our night vision picks and chooses when it wants to work, our Pedestrian Monitoring picks things up when we are driving when there isn't anything there, not longer works anymore. Week 4 our ambient lighting no longer works, our emergency braking system doesn't work, when trying to brake normally by pushing the pedal the car doesn't want to stop sometimes very dangerous. Week 5 my wife goes to turn on the car, all the warning lights pop up, power steering is no longer functioning, gets it out of park, car won't move, puts it back in park, won't comeback out of park. After I check it, I had to start the car on and off a couple times, checked the automatic start as well, it would start for a little bit and automatically turn off after a couple seconds (had a full tank). I finally got the car to work and drive again after a couple of restarts. Long story short, stay far away from this vehicle. I've owned plenty of cars in my lifetime, this is by far the WORST car I've ever owned. It's unsafe and we have children. We have brought it to the dealership and have had it serviced more times than having a car with 200k miles filled with rust and the muffler falling off of it. This has got to be the worst "NEW" SUV on the market. Working on lemon law at the moment. Once completed, I will never ever ever buy another Jeep EVER Again. I hope this helps any potential buyers. To the current owners who are dealing with the same problems we are, I'm sorry that you have to deal with this as well.

Broke Down in less than 12 hours

Both key fobs un-programmed them self from my Jeep leaving me late to work. It had to be towed out of my garage. 7 days later I got it back from the dealer and again, less than 12 hours it was broke again. This time power steering was out. Dealership ended our deal and I gave the car back. I would give 0 stars if I could. Do not buy.

Water leaking in on both sides from b-pillar area. No water stains or moisture on the headliner, trim panels. Water flooded into the center floor pans on both sides. Dropped at dealership. Told them the process I wanted done. Having a water tech expert diag. Has been there for a month now nothing touched on it. Finally having to show my self they agreed to tear it down and see what is going on. Dealership has not taken the proper steps to mitigate damage. Did not add wrap on the roof or use dessicant to remove all moisture inside. All dealership says is yes we have ran water on it... We know it's leaking. Not sure where. No loaners available. And now they agreed to do my steps by having a tear down complete and water tech expert check. Chrysler corporate offered 5 days of rental to start for reimbursement. Complete crap. Then the dealership wanted me to take it back to the dealership I bought it from 4 hrs away. No one will agree to pay for the tow. Will provide update.

While I love my jeep, the water dripping in from the moon's roof is not loveable. I have taken it in, and twice they tell me they can't fix what they can't find. I am taking it in for the third time in less than one month. The jeep is less than a year old.

70 total days in service and they still haven’t been able to repair my car. I called Chrysler as its almost been in service more days than I have actually driven it and they tell me they can’t do anything for me. I need to keep working with the dealership and “give them time” to repair all the issues. Every time I get it back- the old issues aren’t fixed and there are new issues to add to it. Save yourself a lot of headache and review this AND the Wagoneers before you buy!! They rushed the production and there are multiple stories of mechanical and electric failures, leaving people stranded people on the side of the road. It’s a nice car with lots of features but not worth the safety issues!

Picked up my jeep in mid December 2021. It’s got a V8. It has EVERY option offered at the build time. This is my 2nd grand Cherokee… replaced a 2020 grand Cherokee trail hawk with V6. That Had 59k miles on the odometer when I traded it in. Except a flat tire, I had zero issues. Only service was routine oil changes and tire rotation. I currently have little over 15k miles on current model. V8 is absolutely a gem and performance is excellent. I had one issue so far… air conditioning wasn’t working properly and it needed additional Freon. U-connect was updated at same vist as well. I am Completely satisfied with my purchase.

I have been leasing my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland for a year now. And although it is beautiful, I highly regret my choice to lease this vehicle. There is no denying the new Grand Cherokees are beautiful. They're sleek, classy, comfortable and packs decent horsepower under the hood. Driving it is comfortable and it offers a ton of very convenient options that makes driving it very nice. But is it comparable to luxury brands that is in the same price point? No. My overland is filled with options. Honestly has more standard options than BMWs that start at the same price. My favorite, the Bluetooth android auto. It connects within seconds, no chords needed and for the most part, has had zero issues. If you opt to save money and not do Sirius XM and want to use your amazon music, this is where I had repetive issues with it not working. Songs playing but there's no noise or it just pauses constantly and never plays. However, even if you choose to have Sirius XM, I have had many issues with my Sirius just not working at all. Start your car and drive and it's just silence. Flip through channels and nothing. Most of the time it doesn't work for several minutes. Although I haven't experienced this in a while (didn't happen during cold months), my headunit would completely freeze and need a hard reset. This happened day one of having the vehicle. My salesman said "it's just happening because it's a new system. Do this to reset it and if it happens again, just do these steps again". Well, it happened several times after that. Almost all of the nice "luxurious" options are OFF from factory so you would have to scroll through the menu and turn on what ever options you'd want on. Some options you have are fold-in mirrors when you lock the vehicle as well as your seat sliding back and steering wheel going up for an easier exit. However, SEVERAL times now, I have unknowingly ventured to my destination with 1 or both of my mirrors still folded in which is beyond dangerous! Alongside of that, there have been many times where my seat and steering wheel don't adjust back to my driver setting. They stay all the way back and up. Keep in mind, these are options that can be turned off, however, it's a $61,000+ car (financed $69,000+) and if I want to have my mirrors fold in so they are not hit, I should be able to do so and have them working as they should. Under the hood boasts a pretty decent 293hp. But where is the torque????? $61,000 vehicle and you have to beg it to go? 257 ft lbs of torque for a vehicle that weighs 5,000lbs?! Total flop. Good luck towing something up to 6,200lbs with not enough power or oomf. I will say the air ride suspension is pretty nifty. I was uneducated on the fact that this is not new to Jeep. So, why is there issues with the air ride if it is not new? The other day in fact, I put my car on 'rock' mode. It jacked itself up and looked awesome! But as I started driving, the car went into that scary "brake!" Mode, slammed on the brakes for no reason, scared me to death and threw up a "service 4wd system" light. It ended up turning off the next day but that was very concerning. I've even had repetive issues with, I'm assuming, the suspension causing a pretty rough vibration throughout the whole car when taking turns. Alongside of that, the suspension is so loose, it makes turning with this thing feel like we're going to tip over. Take a turn, hit a bump and your coffee is splashing everywhere. There is nothing luxurious about the handling of this car. Let's be real; no one is taking this off road. They have clearly been catering to soccer moms and football dad's with these more recent grand cherokees and I don't blame them, but they could've added a nicer handling suspension with these newer models. While we're on the topic of 'underneath the bells and whistles', the brakes are absolutely horrible and dangerous. And I'm learning this is a grand Cherokee issue. But on this new GC L, it is scary. Almost always, the vehicle feels like it does NOT want to stop, forcing me to have to slam on the brakes. I truly can't sit here and comfortably say that if it came down to it, the brakes would allow you to prevent an accident. Another issue I have with the brakes that I have also seen many other owners complain about is that when you're at a stop, the brake system is vibrating the whole car. I do not know why but I still experience this a year later. Obviously, companies can't always make every car flawless. But it surely is infuriating when you're paying $1000 a month and there is just nonstop issues. Some things I absolutely love about the car is that it IS beautiful. Jeep still kept the "when dressed up, it's classy. Dressed down, it's sporty" and I have always loved that about jeep. I am a motor head mom, but I also love the new technology these days. On the inside, I LOVE all of the space. We absolutely stuffed a queen size bed in our L and we were sitting very comfortably in the front. Jeep really thought about every passenger when designing this. The sleek dash and headunit really make the interior just stunning. There's also decent storage, more than most vehicles offer. There is ample "outlets" (USB, usb-c, 12v outlet, etc) from front to 3rd row. As odd as this sounds, I really love the headlights and fog lights. The headlights are very bright but the fog lights provide insane road coverage which makes me feel SO comfortable driving at night. I've seen some people complain about visibility looking outward. This is so inaccurate. This is one of the most comfortable-feeling vehicles I've ever driven to where I can see all around me. I've also seen some complain about the buttons. There isn't even a lot of buttons and whatever buttons there are, it's a similar layout as to what it has been. Go view a Porsche macan or range rover and all their buttons and you'll appreciate the few buttons jeep put in these L's. I'd like to add too, that I dealt with these issues for the past year for 2 reasons: 1, we always chalked up vibrations to the air ride and thought it was common. 2, as we are both working, we simply didn't have the time nor the desire to deal with the dealer. Because of previous experiences, we just knew that the dealer got their money and they were just going to say "we reviewed your car and didn't find any of the issues. Bring it back if the issues arise again". We don't have time for it. We're paying $1,000 a month for a leased vehicle that sucks and something we hate now. Would I recommend one? Not an overland. And certainly not the first gen of these new jeeps. Too much technology that the system clearly can't handle. Which is why I had to give 2 stars. The failure with technology and the horrid brake system is a total fail. And if you experience the same brake issues, please save yourself and upgrade them and especially get a track record of it. And do your research before committing to dropping a lot of money on one of these. However, if you can look passed the issues and/or have the desire to deal with dealers just to get a vehicle that has all of the same options an Escalade has for $30,000 cheaper, then this is your car.

Reading reviews, we were skeptical but really love our 3 row Jeep GC overland. We did purchase the 6yr 85k mile Mopar extended warranty just in case but we are 4,000 miles into 2022 model year and it’s been great. We previously owned a 2013 Mercedes GL 450 with 3 rows and like the Jeep even better. Quality of interior is very good and $20k less than BMW X7 or new GLS 450.

Ordered 2022 grand Cherokee limited L, 0 miles. Loved it. Beautiful, best ride and seat comfort for my back. Less than 5,000 miles dash lifted, steering went. Had to tow to dealer. Get it back transmission leaking. Towed to dealer, not sure how much fluid was gone and takes fluid no part store has. Replaced transmission pan. Little bit layer, pan leaking again. Take to the dealer , transmission casing cracked. New transmission. Rattles like crazy and I mean like crazy all under the car. Radio doesn’t work , been programmed 5 times. High beams don’t work. Hear and a/c blow like it’s on 7 on 1 can’t slow it down. Have to turn it off and on all the time. Right front strut is bad. Had a drive train noise from day one needs a drive shaft and complete exhaust. Long story short I’m heart broken, I love this car. The comfort is 100 % but that’s not good enough. So I’m in a lemon law suit now and I will be losing it soon. I wish Chrysler was smart enough to make a vehicle that was good and dependable because this was my dream car. My grandkids love it and so don’t I. 🥲

2 months now with my 2022 L Altitud. I bought it even after reading all the issues. Coming from a 2020 Highlander and 1st year production. My Highlander had also a few. Problems down the road. took my chance with the Jeep. The ride quality and looks are far better than the Highlander and the infontament system uconnect 5 with wireless car play is way better than the cheap looking and slow responsive 8 inch in the Highlander. Maybe I’ll get some problems down the roads. With the Jeep. But I’m not scare. The vehicle is just great. To take the chance.

I've read about 5 other reviews and very similar things with a little less severe. Everything from motor mounts, about 3 recalls, infotainment screen super glitchy goes black turns off restarts whenever. Android auto disconnects all the time. Night vision randomly shows a deer in front and alarms you when nothing is there. Vehicle from a dead stop to attempt acceleration was losing power and hesitation throughout acceleration. I'm contemplating filing lemon. Oh and side mirrors fold in and sometimes they get stuck or one folds in and one doesn't. Panoramic roof, please don't get that if u even risk this beautiful looking hunk of junk it seems. Newer vehicles all this techy stuff is never a good risk.

Bad Service

My 2022, Jeep Grand Cherokee L with 3,500 miles just stopped working and it was in the shop for two months. It was hard to get someone on the phone when I called for the status. I had to go there and they couldn't tell me what was wrong. I got corporate involved and they wasn't much help. I like the vehicle but customer service is bad and I will never purchase another Jeep. My wife and I both own new Jeeps so you lost a loyal customer.

Good enough. 2.5 stars. Wonky Bluetooth, engine v6 and transmission not a great match for such a large car. 2021 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4. For all the options safety and sunroof and upgraded stereo in a large suv with Leather. Great price and Feels like a Jeep. Will it last 5 years-nope. Leased it for 3. Not a keeper but more than good looking and hits all I wanted. V8 was just out of my price range. Oh, gas sucker but regular unleaded for the v6. All good. The Bluetooth and ‘smart’ car part has bugs and is not smooth but also, is not 90k. Worth consideration IMO

Road Trip from SF Bay Area to Phoenix

Troy, 10/13/2023
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Altitude 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)

We drove a 22' Jeep Grand Cherokee L Altitude ~24 Hours Round Trip (2 adults and 1-70 lbs German Shepard). We were all comfortable and miles were easy. Positives were comfort, Appearance, & performance. The 3.6 liter is a good motor. I got decent gas mailage and performance from it during the entire trip. My only complaint was the Apple CarPlay is not reliable, constant glitches & crashes made it necessary to have 2 phones running google maps at all times because it inevitably would crash at the worst time. We had to run one phone connected via CarPlay and one stand alone as a back up just in case the Car Nav failed which it did early and often. For me it was irritating, but not a deal breaker as I usually know where I'm going and how to get there. Overall, I look forward to taking another Road Trip in this vehicle.

I’ve had Jeeps for 15 years and they did a great job with the L. I previously had 4door wranglers but with children on the way I needed a smoother ride and more cargo room. The L has delivered on all of that and some with the luxury feel

This is my 3rd Grand Cherokee limited. The L is so great and doesn’t feel like a tank. I packed so much into the back section for a 2 month trip…3 huge suitcases a carry on, 2 huge duffels and many household items and a lot of food…the 2 standard poodles had their own heated captain chairs. My previous 2 jeeps had the self park feature and it really came in handy in our town with parallel parking on Main Street. However with all the cameras, I do just fine. I’ve had it 1 1/2 years and have 25000 miles with nothing but oil changes and tire rotations covered by Jeep Wave. There have been 3 safety recalls.

I've been driving my used 2022 JGC L for about 6 months now around 48k miles on it so far. It's been solid, with no issues whatsoever and I have been driving it to Houston Texas to OKC and Back 4 times a month. Took it in for the recall thing and everything checked out ok with mine and didn't need any repairs. Love it

Brakes failed spontaneously

Trenna Buchanan , 11/14/2024
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Laredo 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
0 of 0 people found this review helpful

My jeeps brakes failed while I was driving. I was approaching an intersection so I was fortunately already traveling at a very low speed to begin but when I pushed the brakes they were not stopping the car. I quickly released and pushed again and the brake pedal became extremely hard as it would be if the vehicle were not running. The car continued to move forward and I swerved into the left hand lane to barely avoid hitting a car that was in front of me in the middle lane. My jeep continued to go forward in the left turn lane and the whole time I am pushing on the brakes as hard as I possibly can and now knowing for sure that my jeep isn’t going to stop. I hit the back of an 18 wheeler which was the only vehicle in that turn lane stopped at the red light and this brought my jeep to a complete stop. This was so terrifying. I cannot even put into words how horrific this feeling was. There was nowhere to go to avoid collision and coast to a stop. If the 18 wheeler had not been stopped at the light I would have rolled into the intersection and possibly been in a major collision. I had both of my children in the car with me and this was not a place on the road where I could stay safely in the vehicle. I put the car into park and then back into drive and this seemed to reset everything. I slowly drove thru the intersection and pulled immediately off of the road. I called the dealership where I had bought the car and had it towed to them. I have tried to be patient and follow the warranty process and give both Chrysler Jeep and the dealership an opportunity to address this but they are not taking it seriously. I realize how my claim may sound to someone that wasn't driving the vehicle when it happened but it did happen so I am left with the reality that it will happen again. This is not a risk that I am willing to take with my safety, my children's safety or the safety of other drivers on the road. I have a spotless driving record. No moving violations or accidents of any kind. I want to also mention that my car has full insurance coverage and the body damage to the jeep is not substantial. If this were a case of me having made a driving error I would simply call my insurance, pay my deductible, have the body damage repaired and move on with my life. I definitely would not choose to go through the hardship of filing a warranty claim (which has been pointless by the way) and not having my vehicle indefinitely. I am 100% convinced that there is a defect be it electrical or mechanical that caused my brakes to spontaneously fail so I am reaching out on this forum and on others to ask if there is anyone else out there that is going thru this? The dealership called me today saying that they cannot replicate the issue and that Chrysler is instructing them to “release the vehicle” back to me but neither party the dealership and Chrysler care are both trying to avoid any liability. They will not guarantee that the vehicle is free of defect nor that it is safe to drive. They are basically just saying “Come drive it and see what happens” which is unbelievably gross negligence. I am obviously not going to drive it again. I have asked Chrysler customer care to escalate my claim but they will not provide a supervisors contact information and the dealership is pointing back at Chrysler so it’s basically a huge circle and I’m sure that they are all hoping that I will just go away quietly but I can’t do that if they are not willing to provide a reasonable solution. Simply refusing to address a problem or claiming inability to find the problem is not a solution. It is 2024 and we all know that the manufacturer's of these high tech cars have the capabilities to view in great detail anything and everything on a car. I have provided them the exact time and date that the brake failure occurred and yet I am being asked to believe and accept that since the dealership’s service tech couldn’t replicate the issue in the dealerships parking lot that it can’t be diagnosed.
