Stepped up the family vehicle!

Great ride, so comfortable! Features in this car typically reserved for top tier trims on comparable vehicles. Some competitors don’t offer ALL of these features at all. Arguably the best value in this segment. Add the crazy manufacturer warranty on top of this package and it’s near impossible to beat.

Tech is Inconsistent and Ridiculously Annoying

It would seem that we've reached a time where people are either too lazy or too distracted to drive their car on their own?? I feel like this is the car companies way of prepping us all for self driving cars. "Hey let's make it so annoying for people to drive that they'll welcome self driving cars". Is it working? Perhaps. This is our 3rd Santa Fe. We loved the last two we had because they were done right. This one is just down right annoying. First I'll say that we didn't have a choice on options. It was like these are the 6 we have coming in, which color do you want. My last one was a turbo with a 5 or 6 speed transmission. This one is a plain old 4 cyl. with 8 speeds. The car goes into such a high gear to save fuel while your put-zing around, then when you want to go a little faster, you have to keep pushing on the pedal until it finally realizes you want to go faster then downshifts 4 gears and starts this roaring under powered 4 cyl. noise that they make. 8 speed transmissions aren't necessary since they're always in the higher gears anyway. Also, they may as well take 1st gear out because the car shifts into second gear at .5 mile an hour unless you put it in sport mode. The tech in this car is just stupid. The computer is constantly trying to outsmart you or should I say failing to determine what you're trying to do. If you leave all of the tech turned on, the car will literally be beeping so often that you have no idea what it's beeping about. Here's a list of a few things that were annoying. Some can be turned off, some cannot. - Lane assist tries to pull you back in the lane when you're trying to go around a jogger or the mail man that's stopped on the side of the road. Well that's not very safe, turn that one off in the menu. - There were times when turning the corner that the steering wheel would start fighting you half way into the turn. Better have two hands tight on the wheel when that happens. Who needs that crap? - Departure assist or whatever they call it was worthless. The car in front of you moves up in line a little bit and it starts beeping at you even though you can't go anywhere. - The auto parking brake engages when you're on a flat surface but not when you're parked on a hill. Obviously this is not consistent so occasionally it does what it's supposed to do. - Auto start-stop technology is really stupid. Pull into the garage, car stops running, hit "Park" car has to start up before it can go into park, then you can hit "Stop". Can't turn this one off permanently, you have to do it every time you get into the car. If we keep this any longer, I'm going to have to buy that chip you plug into the diagnostic reader port that virtually pushes that button every time you start the car. I shouldn't have to pay for that. That should be a setting in the menu as well, we know it's possible, it's just a software setting that can be added to the menu. - On my 2013 Sante Fe, I could hit the unlock button on one side of the car if my wife was standing on the other side with the fob and her hands full, not this one. - The remote start is through an app on your phone so hope you don't mind losing that feature when you don't renew your Blue Link subscription. - And finally, my pet peeve. The transmission buttons that replaced the gear shift are slow to respond and without my reading glasses, I can't see which button is which. This is about the dumbest thing I've see manufacturer's screw up in the last 20 years. The buttons take up as much room as a gear shift so they can't claim they did it for space savings reasons like articles keep claiming. With a shifter, I can climb into any car and put the car in reverse, drive, or park without looking down. With this car, I have to stare at them to figure out which is the correct button. Wonder what happens when one of those gets bumped while driving??? - These are just the main gripes with the tech, there are many more, I just don't want to sound negative, huh, too late? Sorry. OK, so after all of that, here's what really ticked me off. We pay $35,000.00 for a car with a technology package. We get the car home and realize that it doesn't even have a garage door button to program our garage door opener into. Are you even serious Hyundai?? I guess that's not considered technology, or something we need? I wish they would stop piling unnecessary tech on these cars. I pity the fools that buy these cars used in 6 or 7 years and start getting hit with failing computers that cost thousands to replace just to get the car back on the road. Also, my brother-in-law works for an auto-insurance company and they claim some of this tech actually has been proven to cause accidents, like lane assist, because when the car starts to turn the wheel, people over compensate and end up going in a ditch, or worse. Reliability wise, of all the 40 some cars I've owned in my life, I would take Hyundai and Kia any day of the week. I say that with first hand experience. These have all been the most reliable cars I've owned, including my 2014 Kia Cadenza which now has 96K miles on it and has never cost me any out of pocket expenses in repairs.

Better than the 2020 I got rid of.

Decided to trade in my 2020 for 2022 because the dealer gave me $1000 over what I originally paid, plus I got way better financing. The ‘22 is a definite improvement in terms of quality. The ‘20 had a quiet/smooth ride but the plastics on the inside would squeak and rattle all the time, which really irritated me. The ‘22 fixed all that and added some new features like a push-button gear selector, digital gauges, and more storage space. My only issue is the infotainment system. Mine is a SEL+Premium so it came with leather, sunroof, and the upgraded infotainment…which sucks. It’s painfully slow, cumbersome, and not user-friendly. My usual go around is Apply CarPlay, which takes 10-30 seconds for the car to recognize the connection and make it available on screen. Other than the slow speed it does alright when connected. Drawback to that is that it HAS to be a wired connection. Premium system and they do not offer wireless CarPlay/Android Auto in 2022. The base system does offer it. I’ve tried to use wireless and using Hyundai’s built-in nav, but my phone often won’t connect (iPhone 13 ProMax) and the system is so clunky it’s not worth the hassle. Additionally, the wireless charger won’t work. I slide my phone into the charging compartment and my phone does is repeatedly make the charging connected noise. Because I CarPlay seems to work decently I can overlook the infotainment issues. Hoping for an update to fix the buggy software next oil change. Other than that it has been a fabulous vehicle. I’ve been using it lately to run items to and from my storage facility and it can handle several large Costco bins (the black and yellow ones). Gas mileage highway has exceeded the sticker estimate and it drives like a more expensive car than a Hyundai. Would definitely recommend this as a daily driver with the added utility of storage space it provides. Get an extended warranty for the electronics…I think I will be using mine on the infotainment before long.

Best Car I’ve Owned!!!

I have owned a LOT of cars and this is my favorite of all of them. Decided to downsize to one car so I sold our Lexus GX460 and our BMW 330Xi to purchase a 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy. It is as fun to drive as the BMW and as handy as the GX460. I had a 2022 Tesla Model Y on order and decided that the Santa Fe was a better overall vehicle. >Has Heads Up Display >Gorgeous well laid out interior >Exterior looks great from every angle If you are looking for a Great SUV drive the new Santa Fe Calligraphy before buying, you’ll be happy you did.

I love everything about this car except for the lack of cup holders, the ones in the door are useless, so that leaves only 2 in the front. The transmission has a tendency to roll back on a hill as in a standard transmission and you have to treat it as such. I'm not sure if that is in all models or just mine. The sound system is good, love the ability to use a USB. The seats could have a little more cushion but all in all a great car. I love the look and the drive.
