Went in to buy a Palisade, drove out with Santa Fe
Been waiting to purchase a midsize SUV for sometime. Was pretty much set on a 2022 Palisade Caligraphy loved the way it drove, looked, and interior. But I happen to see a Santa Fe Limited nearby and thought I’d do a comparison. Other than a bit smaller, didn’t need third row seating, had basically all the features, except, glass projected speedometer, air cooled 2nd row seats, special leather, the Sonata Limited Turbo had everything the Palisade had, except for one glaring omission. The price! $10,000 LESS! It drove and handled very similar and had all the bells and whistles! With all the attention going to Genesis, Palisade , and the Tuscan, Hyundai’s best kept secret, I think is the fully loaded Santa Fe Limted or Caligraphy!

Transmission, Cylinder & Gasket Problems, Oh My!
Bought my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.5T Limited in Feb 2022. Nothing but problems from the 3rd month. Engine light would come on, exhaust made a putting noise, but it would go away after turning the car off and back on. Called the Hyundai Service department and they said it was likely due to a recall issue but there ‘wasn’t a fix’ yet and they would call me as soon as there was. The issue was sporadic but started happening more often until the engine light remained on no matter what I did. Took the car in and they had it for 1.5 days (wouldn’t give me a loaner or pay for a rental, so I paid out of pocket). They told me it was a 2nd cylinder issue so they swapped the 2nd cylinder coil to the 4th cylinder and swapped spark plugs. Few weeks later while on the freeway the car lost the ability to accelerate and started shuddering. Took it back in to the shop. They had my car FOUR & A HALF weeks. Had to replace the transmission. Again refused me a loaner or car rental. Top top it off, they broke my windshield (huge crack from bottom to top) and refused to replace it unless I paid. A week later engine light is on again… took it back in… cylinder issue and gasket needed to be replaced. Again they swapped the 2nd cylinder coil to (this time) the 3rd cylinder and swapped spark plugs. Got mad when I questioned why they were doing the same thing as last time if it didn’t work. A week later engine light is back on. Car is shuddering and won’t go past 30mph. I reached out to Hyundai Corporate and requested they buy back the car and they denied my claim…because I made the claim 2 months after the lemon law window even though I’ve had issues since the 3rd month. I now have a lawyer, but the legal process is about a 150 days… that’s 150 days making $620 payments on a car that I can’t drive. Don’t get a Hyundai folks. The car is crap, the dealership and service department are a**holes, and Hyundai corporate are crooks.

Firm ride, noisy, huge disappointment
I own Santa Fe 2022 calligraphy trim for 3 months and 3000miles. I would say it’s a very big disappointment for me. It has too many flaws in design and is a very uncomfortable ride for daily use. Cons: 1. Very firm ride, especially at low speed(below 40mph). 2. Everything vibrates in the car, most probably the car isn’t designed for low-profile tires, but they sell it on top trim. The vibration noise is so loud that makes even short rides extremely uncomfortable. 3. Wireless charger doesn’t work for iPhone 12 and newer, you can find reports about this issue on Reddit. It’s a known problem since Santa Fe 2021 and Hyundai doesn’t care about this. 4. Surround View Monitor has huge blinds spots, you can have a kid in that corner and it won’t be visible. 5. Blindspot cameras are a great feature, but the poor implementation makes them useless. The image on the screen is so small that you won’t use it on the road. 6. The rain sensor doesn’t work at all for me, most probably this is a defect. 7. Wipes don’t clean the windshield properly, they leave a thick huge line on the driver's side, it’s 4” wide. 8. Wind noise is very loud, and it goes from the backseat windows. 9. The seat memory position doesn’t work, it doesn’t memorize the lumbar support position, so you will have to adjust it each time after the second driver. 10. Very limited storage space inside, buttons occupated all useful spaces. Cup holders in the middle and phone space storage are very inconvenient. 11. A lot of false warnings from the safety system, I warn be about keeping a hands-on driving wheel all the time while my hands are on the wheel of course. It’s very annoying, especially when it when to red level and starts to beep. 12. Transmission sometimes behaves unpredictable, a couple of times instead of acceleration it makes the engine go off but there was no work at all. 13. The navigation system startup is slow, it takes ~1minute from the cold start before you can access the map. 14. The ambient light is ridiculous, you will understand that you have it when you will check the user manual only. 15. The assembling quality is far from perfect, the plastic panel near the pedals is not fixed. I have load vibration from the back door on the left side(most probably from the window curtain) 16. No backlit for light buttons. Good luck to turn on the light in the car at night, the buttons are black as another surface and on the same level as it. 17. If you close vent blades you still will have a strong draft from vents, there’s no way to close vents completely. 18. Climate control smells, turn off the a/c and turn it on again in a few minutes and you have a strong disgusting smell from it. It’s a known problem for all cars, but this one really smells disgusting. Prons: 1. Freeway is where the car is shining, silent ride, not noticeable vibration on high speed. A powerful engine allows you to merge and take over easily. 2. Navigation system is very good, I even prefer to use it instead of google maps. (except slow startup that I’ve mentioned before) 3. Entertainment system - very convenient, responsive, and well organized. It’s very easy to switch between phones. And it has relatively good sound quality.

Best SUV for your money
This is my sixth Hyundai, and I am still amazed at all of the technology and features I get for the price. Hyundai financing is the way to go, I can usually get 0%. Hyundai service (usually just oil changes) is always easy and quick. Of all of the Hyundai vehicles I have owned I have never had any major issues that were not covered by their awesome warranty.

Calligraphy all the way.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SUV !!!All the tech you could want and I'm an old guy not very tech oriented but most of the settings are easy to learn. I was a little worried about hearing noise and the ride with the 20" wheels but the ride is smooth and very quiet. This car is a joy to drive with power up the gazoo when you need it. I've gotten so many questions about it from friends and others. A friend just got the limited but I wanted the heads up feature which is on the Calligraphy and the fabric inside is upgraded too. If you look at what you get for the price and test drive it...you're hooked.
