Ioniq is unique ION Tech

The visual feedback from the mileage and what is driving the car - the electric battery or the engine or both, encourages you to drive efficiently to get the 51 or 52 miles per gallon. The power and acceleration with that double clutch electric/gas engine gives you all you need to get on the freeway and around a popup target. Don't listen to those that say it has wind and road noise. You are supposed to drive this puppy with the windows closed for fuel efficiency. You have to have the satellite radio station service for 24/7 commercial free talk shows, music, etc. The blue tooth is excellent for streaming phone and music devices to the radio & speakers. My wife drives this car more than I do as she likes it better then or fancy SUV. You have to get the Tech package - especially the auto-stop feature, lane-assist, rear backup cross traffic sensors. If you're not buying that in any new car, you need to ask yourself why you're buying a new car.

Not in Toyota's Pocket

I own an Ioniq SEL. I could not be happier. I have driven a Prius a few times and found it just too anemic entering a highway or passing. I found the Ioniq far superior in this regard. I love the way this car drives it is comfortable and quiet; I could not be happier. As to steering, the reviewer is spitting hairs. If you want sports car handling buy a sports car like my spider 124. As to mileage, it really depends on where and how you drive. I live in the hills in Tennessee and there I average around 46 miles per gal. But when I am in FL or some place flat I average just over 50. Do not underestimate the value of the life time warranty on the battery. This insures your lower cost of ownership will not evaporate with a battery replacement. How a car looks to you is subjective but really I have to believe with most people the nod has to go to the Ioniq---by a long shot. Cargo space is very good. I traded my 2018 CRV in on the Ioniq. Before I did, I measured the the actual floor space with the seats down, in it and the Ioniq. Both the floor space, and the hatch opening width, were within an inch. Obviously because of height and body shape, the Civic beat the Ioniq in overall cubic feet (around 10 cubic feet greater). But the point is in most type of loads the Ioniq fares pretty well in cargo space. Unless I would need to pack a load to the ceiling I can carry pretty much what I did with my 2018 CRV (also a great vehicle). Bottom line: more bang for your buck with a Ioniq compared to Prius. The above was written as a comment on the Car Gurus review. I did not agree with the assessment in total but they did give the nod to Ioniq over the Prius. I thought the Edmunds' review was further off the mark. The Edmunds' reviewer mentioned the Ioniq as having tepid acceleration. All hybrids in this class have tepid acceleration. But the Ioniq has much better pickup than many and certainly the Prius. Do yourself a favor and drive both the Prius and Ioniq for a true assessment. Make sure you get on and off a major highway a few times and judge which car would be safer entering a busy highway. The Ioniq has a dual clutch automatic transmission as opposed to the Prius which has a CVT. A note on Continuously Variable Transmissons: Reviewers love them, but they do not mention their effect on pickup which they generally impact negatively. I have driven many, I am a Honda Guy. But there are tradeoffs. I also believe the Edmunds reviewer exaggerated the harshness of the shifting. As a matter of fact I thought it has performed very well for a vehicle of this type. Is the transmission as smooth as a Luxury Hybrid like a Lexus? No. But do you have 60,000 to blow on a car? --Then by all means....

I had several test in Hybrid Cars, Hyundia, Toyota, Chevy and Ford. It really came down to 3 cars Hyundia,Chevy and Ford. I test drove all 3 again. The way i made up my mind was to compare Price, Waranty, and how much i liks the car. Price and Waranty left out Ford and Chevy. That left Hyundia, Hyundai, Hyundia. I read all the reviews on Hyundia Consumer Report , Edmunds, ETC. If i had not read the actual customer reviews i may not have bought the car. It seemed 100% of owners loved the car. I have noticed almost none of the problems brought out by the Professionals reviewers. No body brings up the warranty maybe because Hyundia has the best one and the only one that gives a life time warranty on The Hybrid battery. Have you priced one of those babys. I have LTD. Package the seats are very comfortable I'm only 5'5" and that may have a lot to do with it. I love my Ioniq and actually look for excues to drive it.

I do get great gas mileage with this car and love that. HOWEVER, the electronics are an issue. I had the car less that a year and had to have it towed in for service because it would not start. Now the various electronics are giving me issues (had the car just one year as of last month). I keep the auto option selected for the lights. This morning the lights came on when I started the car. I assumed they would go off once I got out on the road - but no. Even after turning the car off, the lights stayed on. And the method of connected my phone to the car has disappeared, no longer even an option. This happened previously so I bought a new phone. When my phone upgraded, the system stopped working again. The fob keeps falling off. Service is difficult because they do not return your car or respond to web requests for service.

It’s just fun to drive! Braking and handling is very responsive. Interior comfort is good for front seat passengers. Back seat room is limited. Plenty of storage and mileage is consistently between 58-62 mph. Mileage does suffer after 70 mph and drops back to the advertised mpg. Updated 3/19: this winter took its toll on mileage but it's not surprising with record cold, the engine had to run much more than normal to maintain operating and interior temperatures. Now that it's warming up again outside, the mileage is returning to normal. Update 3/20: Still a happy customer, no issues and consistent performance. Update 9/20: still happy, nothing new to report.

I've had my Ioniq for a month now. Before the lease I had an 2017 Elantra and a 2008 Prius. There were things that I loved about each. Never did I ever think I would find it all in one car. The first thing that attracted me to the Ioniq was a $4800 rebate. Sweet since I will probably be doing a lease to buy! I don't like what Toyota has done with the design of the new Prius. And it is very cost prohibitive. The Ioniq has the classic look of the older Prius which I love. I'm getting 44 mpg which I believe it's really good for cold New England weather. I know it will be higher in the summer. Plus the car is still breaking in. It has a very comfortable driver's seat with lumbar support. Love the flat bottom steering wheel since I drive with the seat up high not having to move the seat to get in or out is great. With the 6 speed tranny I keep forgetting that I'm driving a hybrid. And it has much more power than my old Prius. Like having the Android Auto but it has the tendency to disconnect when using Google Maps. Love being able to do voice to text. One thing that I find weird for a hatchback is there is no rear wiper. What's up with that Hyundai? Also with the hatch design, i wish it was flat access and not well style. Is much more difficult having to lift stuff out of the back instead of being able to pull it straight out. The only thing I miss about the Prius is the numerous storage compartments. I loved the double gloveboxes in the Prius. The center consultant is way too small in the Ioniq. My criticisms of the Ioniq are minor. I'm in love with the car. Extremely happy with my decision to get this car.

The Hyundai Ionic SEL gives you the most bang for your buck if you pick up the Technology package. The car rides very smoothly. This trim has all the safety features you could want on a car at a most reasonable price. The only negative is the split rear window makes it hard to see traffic behind you. This car even gives you Blind Spot Monitoring across all trim levels. How many other cars do that? If you're looking for a vehicle loaded with features you can't beat the Iionic!

This is by far the best hybrid value out there. If you're into drag racing this car is not for you. Pro reviewers assume we all want "performance" cars. This is not a powerhouse. It gets you there in style and comfort and for less money. 60 mpg is good enough for me.

I really wanted to get a Chevy Cruze diesel, but availability and owners reviews really turned me off, especially when ALL the owners complained about the auto start/stop. And i am getting 58 mpg in town, which is better than the Chevy diesel, and i get about 55 mpg on the highway at 75. The ride and interior noise is about the same on all the small cars I tested, but the safety equipment and electronics with the 10 year warranty really sold me! I LOVE this car!!!

U can not lay any electronics on the passenger seat. Tire literally, fell off the rim. Fuzzy back up camera. It’s a hatchback with no wipers. Mpg not close to 60. The car get stuck in park. The car accelerates unevenly. FYI i have contacted Hyundai for almost one year no return call.

I test drove this car and felt real uncomfortable with rear visibility, especially through the rear window, which was too small for my taste and had that wide bar going through the middle of it. It is impossible to back up without using the camera. In my opinion, this car is too dangerous because of the blind spots.

Good gas mileage particularly in summer 55-57. Drops 5-10 mpg in winter, gas engine needs to work. Using seat heat helps a lot. Drive in sports mode to heat engine faster and shift to auto if need more heat. To drive in sports mode accelerate responds good in freeway speeds and merge. Breaking in sports mode not very responsive, need increased distance to stop. fuel smell with sports mode driving at times. Had issues with backup camera screen will go blank, found radio was issue and replaced with warranty. Brake response is very bad compared to this segment of other cars, could be related to less weight of the vehicle and it feels like poor friction between tires and road-will definitely screech if break faster even 35-45 speed. It’s a compromise for mileage.

Our Ionic Hybrid Hatchback has been trouble free from day 1. It cruises nicely at 80mph and the tech is good with CarPlay and Android. While it could have more acceleration power and acoustical insulation in back could be better, it’s very efficient getting 42-52mi/gal depending on the season and driving style, and has an incredible range of >625mi/tank. Definitely a good purchase for us.
