Getting it right the first time never happens

2024 Honda Prologue Touring 4dr SUV (electric DD)

I test drove every electric SUV in this price range and the Prologue stands out for cabin comfort, quiet and smooth ride and stylish exterior looks. Thre color options are fun, I chose the blue exterior and two tone leather interior with the touring trim. With that said, there are some issues. The first is the electric rear lift gate. The foot sensor is too sensitive and it will close on you when you’re loading groceries which feels like a safety issue. I called Honda and they said they noted my concerns and recommended I take it to the dealer to inspect the sensor. Who wants to spend their day at a repair center? The range in the vehicle is not properly calibrated, I got the FWD and it’s showing me the AWD range right out the gate and after charging it twice it still shows the same range as the AWD. I have taken it on a road trip but not long enough to test the real world range so it might recalibrate on its own like most electric cars do when they learn your driving habits. Driver assist is a letdown coming from driving a Tesla (non FSD version), the adaptive cruise control works great on the freeway but if you’re on a curvy road it does NOT slow down automatically for the curves which to me is a huge safety hazard. You have to manually apply the brakes and then it shuts off the cruise once you’ve changed to your new freeway. The lane keep assist is really nothing more than a gentle nudge back into your lane, it does not keep you centered or help you drive the car in any way. The backup camera sucks on the touring model, it’s about 10 plus years behind its time. You have to pay extra for the elite edition and then you get the full surround view. What’s really annoying is that the Equinox 2LT comes with the full surround view on the base 2LT trim. I found that the cross traffic alert for pedestrians and cars is adequate and helps with those dangerous trips to Costco where everyone else parked around you are driving massive trucks and SUVs and your visibility can be limited pulling out of parking spaces. The Bose audio is excellent but if you know Bose you know that they aren’t known for the crisp high range sound. The bass is excellent. Definitely pair your iPhone and use Apple Music to get the best sound quality on your test drive, the Sirius XM is tinny as is the FM radio due to HD radio being compressed. I found the Bose in this car one of the best of all the SUV, better than the Sonos in the Audi Q4 and better than the Bose in the Ioniq but not as good as the Tesla system or the Harmon Kardon in the Volvo C40. The interior lighting is pretty good at night on the touring although you have to buy the elite edition to get lighted floor boards and cup holders. Come on Honda this is 2024 not 1990! The remote app on your phone SUCKS. If you want to use your phone as a car key this is NOT the car for you! The app will unlock doors and turn on climate control but you CAN NOT start the car with the app, and most of the time the app doesn’t work or is very slow to respond. Honda needs to fix this quickly as it’s a huge embarrassment trying to show your friends look, I can open my car with my phone and it doesn’t work! I heard some concerning things about the charging. You must go to a 350Kw charger to get the full 150kw charge rate. Otherwise if you go to standard electrify America fast chargers or Tesla or EV go it will be more like 75-100kw which can be a bit annoying if it’s a long road trip. Apparently this is due to the architecture in the Chevy Ultium EV platform that is shared with the Blazer and the Cadillac as well as the Equinox EV. As much title says, getting an EV right on the first try never happens. If you’re looking for a stylish and comfortable EV and you can strike up an amazing lease deal like I did then get this car. If you’re paying full price and don’t get a great deal I think there are better options in the Ioniq or the Volvo.

BEWARE!

I'm currently leasing this vehicle, the Touring model, and after only 3,000 miles the heating system started to trigger a "service high voltage system" warning. Once a service light comes on, you are no longer able to charge the vehicle without first bringing it to a dealership, and it takes them 2-3 hours just to communicate with the vehicle to clear the code. I've now been there 4 times and am currently waiting on a part that will hopefully fix the issue. Despite losing all these days of being able to use the vehicle, and thousands of dollars in lost income because of it, Honda refuses to provide any financial relief. Do not ever but this vehicle, and do not ever lease from Honda financial.

Never again

2024 Honda Prologue Elite 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)

I am posting with hopes of helping others, especially other Honda loyalists/drivers considering an EV. The TLDR: After only 3 months and just 2000 miles, our Prologue requires a new lithium ion battery and both front axles have to be replaced. Additionally, the auto-breaking and collision warning is overly sensitive at best, dangerous at worst. We leased our Prologue at the end of September. By late December we noticed a popping/thumping noise that occurred when we turned, especially in the cold weather . Then, a week later, we received an error message that the lithium-ion battery was unable to charge. We took it to Honda for service; after 3 days they determined that the battery needed to be replaced as do both front axles. The parts are not in stock, and the dealership has no timeline for the parts. Additionally, the auto-braking is overly sensitive and has stopped the car suddenly, without there being a threat. It occurred once when a car simply passed alongside us (not particularly close) and another time while parallel parking. The auto-breaking also engages when backing up on our driveway, we believe due to the incline of the driveway. Other owners have reported similar issues with backing up. In none of these instances was there a collision risk. Ironically, the unexpected braking nearly caused a collision as other drivers had no way of anticipating the car would break. Regrettably we are stuck with this car for another 33 months. I'm already counting down.

Great car with minor hiccups

I got my car on June 1st. I have been on a 906 mile road trip. I have had the time of my life. There are minor issues some of which should be expected in a first of its kind car. The memory seat entry does not work as advertised. There is an option titled Valet which I cannot even get to. The EA credits have yet to show up. Told by a Honda rep that they should show up in August. I did have an occasion where the Service Now light came on (similar to an Engine Warning light in an ICE I guess). It did go off on its own without any intervention. It charges slower than advertised but I got different experiences at different families of chargers. It may be a charger problem or it may be the thing is too new for its capabilities to be known to every system. I love the instant acceleration. Where some controls are slightly different, I had no problems adjusting to the ACC. It is more like an ICE car in its setup than any other EV that I have driven. I cannot believe that I haven’t had more problems than I have. The memory seat can be put in position by holding the seat button so it is a minor inconvenience. The Valet selection may never have been intended to be a part of it. I don’t think that I would trust the car to a Valet. The EA credits are coming eventually. Update: still love the car. Now have learned the problem with charging. The battery platform is a 288V system versus a 400V or higher in other cars meaning that the car needs to charge at a 350kW station or better to get decent charging. The EA credits are yet to be added to anyone’s account. Systemically, there seems to be battery pack failures, issues with the AC which contributes to some of the battery pack issues and faulty front axles. My car currently has the axle issue. They will be replaced under warranty. Just waiting for the parts but continuing to drive. Despite its warts, it is a great car. I wish Honda would update the software to correct lingering issues such as those mentioned in the original post. Would I buy again? Certainly!

No complaints overall. Love the quality compared to the Chevy Equinox which was about the same to lease. It has so many more features than the Equinox like the double sunroof, Bose stereo, leather seats, bigger rear cargo space and ride/comfort level. Also the dash looked much higher end than the sparse and rather cheap looking dash on the Equinox. I do find its width a couple of inches wider than I'm used to and would prefer. But it's about the same as the Odyssey I used to own. Buy.

Canary in Colemine? Car in Service 24h After Sold

Yesterday, I got a new Honda Prologue Elite and drove it 200 hundred miles from LA to San Diego. I've had the car for less than 24h and it's already is at the service center at a Honda dealer, they are unable to lend me a car nor tell me when my car will be ready. Here are the issue I've noticed: Charging: The sales rep was also not able to change any of the charging settings during the final sales walk-through so that we could charge above 80% to help with my long drive. I thought that perhaps the sales person was unfamiliar with EVs and that I would figure it out later. However, It doesn't seem like any of the charging settings (including the maximum charge % or Prep for Fast Charge Settings) can be updated, the screen shows "Unable to Update Settings. Please Try Again." When I arrived in San Diego, the car was at 10% battery, I charged at a fast charger with 150kw, it initially started charging at 100kw until approximate 20%, but soon reduced to 25kw and did not move from there. Infotainment: On the drive down, I paired my iPhone 14 Pro Max and used the built in Google Maps to navigate home. At least 4 times on my drive down, the Infotainment system reset itself so that I had to re-pair my phone and re-enter navigation. I tried to adjust the ambient lighting, but I keep getting a prompt to turn on the car to make adjustments, even though the car is already on. When the sales rep in LA helped me "set up" the car for me after the purchase, they had to escalate to a senior engineer (who will get back to us within 5 business days) to set up OnStar. I am surprised that Honda would have released a car with so many software problems despite the same GM platform had similar problems late last year. It seems that both sales and service centers are not properly trained to understand how to address them. Until now I've held Honda at high regards for reliability with other cars, this is truly disappointing.

No Honda Sensing on a $60K car is it's first fail

HPD, 12/29/2024
2024 Honda Prologue Elite 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)

Love how it drives and it's far quieter on the highway than any Honda because Honda doesn't have any idea how to keep out wind noise on their own designs. However I'm genuinely angry that Honda claims this has Honda Sensing when it's actually just rudimentary GM sourced lane keeping assist that doesn't do lane centering. It's next to useless and if you come from another modern Honda like we did with our CR-V you'll be in for a rude awakening if you take it for granted that it's the real deal and don't test and verify during your dealer drive time. It is going to grind on me for the 3 years I'm locked into this lease that I made such a major downgrade in driver comfort by blindly trusting Honda to not engage in such a deception. They could fix the issue with software, the hardware is in place but they won't. No software updates have been issued of any kind since it was released and there are major computer gremlins that need addressed as well. Top it off with no dealer support of any kind. We took delivery without being able to complete Onstar registration and thus the ability to have route planning because it couldn't connect. The dealer claimed the antennae was faulty and told us to get it fixed under warranty when we got home. Fixed it myself in 2 minutes by doing a factory reset procedure I found on Reddit because it's a very common issue. Nobody in that whole dealership from sales to service had a clue about the issue and were totally happy to send me off to eventually leave my brand new car at a dealer for 2 weeks to wait for parts it didn't need at all. This level of indifference seems to be widespread, Honda seemingly does not want to have anything to do with this car and is doing everything they can to sabotage it and ensure it fails to continue their narrative that electric cars are not viable the same as Toyota and Subaru. I'd hoped that being a GM under the skin would ensure the product got some level of support, training and software updating but alas that is not the case. I'm terrified we'll have a real issue because I know Honda has done zero training on this car for dealer service techs.

Looks nice just hope doesn't need repair

Looks nice and drives fine. Makes a loud humming sound while driving. And hope you don't need a repair or part. Looks like Chevy is stingy with their Blazer parts and don't want to give to Honda. If your looking to buy a Honda, don't get a prologue. It is a Chevy blazer with a Honda emblem. That is what the Honda service guy told me, and not a lot of Honda know how to service it because it is a Chevy car. I had to bring my car in at a specific time because the one guys who knew what to do was only there at that time. I have been waiting for a bumper for 7 months and now they just told me next eta for my bumper is feb. I can't wait to get rid of this car.

I have had my Prologue for a month now and love it. Looks great, minimal learning curve, regular buttons where they make sense, nice tech on top of that. I am exceeding the range by a bit in regular bay area commute. It is not the fastest, but to me the car looks so much better inside and out than most others on the market. And it has tons of passenger room front and back.

Really enjoying it - well worth the look

I'm a dedicated Honda guy, so for that reason maybe I am biased. I bought the Touring AWD (the Elite made no sense to me given the few extra amenities I didn't value for the cost). I know it's underpinnings are GM, but the design is distinctly Honda. It drives more like a GM, but I was actually looking for a more forgiving ride that is more luxurious without having to spend that kind of money, which I really like in the Prologue. It also feels HUGE inside. It is wider than most in the class, which really makes it roomier for sure, and it does make a big difference. It also rides higher, making it feel bigger than it actually is, which gives it great sight lines and presence on the road. I read a lot of reviews, and I really don't understand why the Ioniq5 is and a few others are rated so much higher. The acceleration is great for the size of the SUV, it charges perfectly fine, drives great, and has a nice balance between electronics and real knobs. Given Honda's reputation, my instinct is that they weren't going to partner with GM unless they felt that the underlying quality would meet their expectations. I traded in a Tesla3 (for an array of reasons, mostly because I wanted an SUV), and I don't regret it. The only reason I give it a 4 is because I do find the cargo space a bit snug given the class of the car. I rate it a 4 instead of 5 for these reasons: a) the cargo space is definitely smaller than others in the class, b) they really should start offering a 5yr/60K bumper-to-bumper to help differentiate more and compete with Hyundai, and c) the HondaLink app really is horrible. I mean, come on Honda, you can get that right, no? That said, if you love Hondas, like we do, you'll like this a lot I think.

Nice EV, but some kinks to still work out

Overall this vehicle is a nice addition to the EV field. The car is basic, but loaded with technology, and space for your comfort. However with the technology, some features were difficult to find, and if you live in a cold weather area the heating can be an issue. The technology is a great highlight of the vehicle. There are tons of features from to play around with. You can customize certain applications for features to your specific liking. The issue with all this technology is that it can be difficult to find features, such as the handsfree lift gate(Touring and Elite trims). The drive itself is enjoyable and it has plenty of space for your comfort. With that comfort factor is the heating of the cabin. If you live in colder climates, heating can be a problem as the cabin does not get hot, even on HI. This seems to be a problem for all EVs. Other than that, the Honda Prologue is a nice EV. If I had the opportunity again, I would not buy his EV again, unless I lived in a warmer location.

We went to dealer looking for used CRV and took one drive of Prologue and the solid sturdy smoothness totally changed our interest totally, then the look style and color combo was so tempting. We never had electric before so that’s the biggest learning curve along with charging.

Need Morw Knowledgeable Technicians

I leased a vehicle in September 2024, it was running fine until I got these warning lights -Battery Fault Light, Propulsion Power is Limited Light and Service Vehicle Soon Light (Propulsion System Failure) on November 16 2024. The technician didn't know why those lights appeared, and my vehicle has since been in the shop with no ETA of when I will be getting it back. They replaced a temp sensor part that was backordered, but after getting the vehicle, 20 minutes into the drive, and all the lights came back on. Honda has allowed only one technician to learn these Prologues for all their dealerships. They have to keep going back to the corporate tech to get answers. There's a bunch of other individuals experiencing the same im going through. Especially with their Prologues being in the shop for over 4 months. The car design is nice and roomie. The sunroof is great and the drive is smooth. Going up hills are easy. But with the current issue I'm going through, this car isn't worth it. Honda should have not pushed this vehicle, especially without knowing all the ins and outs. Working with GM to create a Honda version of the blazer was a terrible idea. Unfortunately I don't think I will be enjoying this vehicle as I hoped. More thoughts should have been put into this vehicle. The design is good but needs improvement. Like fully charge doesn't reach to 300 miles, waze doesn't work on the dash, the fluid comes out through the wipers, the HondaLink App isn't working with the Prologues, Android Auto stops out of no where sometimes, and twice I've had my dash screen and main screen go black while driving. Like I said, the design is nice, but the technicalities need to improve greatly.

Good starting point for an EV

The ride comfort with the 19 in wheels is very good. The real world range is really good for everyday driving and long trips (Charging to 80% on temperatures above 45 degrees has given me 265 plus miles Above 70 degrees, I have seen 288 miles at 80%). The physical controls are a plus, the graphics are crisp and clean, and the availability of Apple Car play is commendable and very useful to have. The Google built-in system is very good, and does a good job in helping plan for charging stops during a trip. The power in the awd version is sufficient and confidence-inspiring. However, the wireless charging is disappointing as it constantly stops working, the charging speeds on level 3 chargers are slow (unless you can find a 350 kw charger, at which point you will see the full 150 kw of charging speed--A 150 kw dc fast charger will give you at most 60-70 kw as the electrical architecture of the vehicle is designed for battery longevity with low voltage for charging). At this price point (EX awd 47k), not having a heated steering wheel and; at least leatherette seats, and standard ambient lighting, seems like a glaring omission on what could have been a perfect package. Overall, I really like this vehicle as a first EV and highly recommend it.

I enjoy the car, and it is comfortable to drive on long trips. However, planning the trip requires a proper charge before and after. I thought switching from a gas vehicle to an EV would require a lot of work, but I highly recommend doing your research to understand the undertaking.

A great design, spacious, great leg room for back seat and cargo. Many wonderful features, but after ddriving for 45 days a warning came on the screen "Warning, High Voltage Battery needs to be checked, ASAP, Not verbatim but close. I called the dealership where I purchased it and they said have it towed to nearest dealership. It has now been 35 days and it is still there. Originally told repairs would not be completed until the first of April. Due to some decisions I made, I was notified it would be the middle of March. So overwhelmed and disappointed, as there are many owners reporting the same type of issues.

A Mixed Blessing

I purchased a Honda Prologue less than two weeks ago, and I think it is much too soon to draw any conclusions. Nevertheless, I offer the following tentative perceptions. The car drives beautifully. Despite high winds that knocked over signs and regrettably caused power outages that prevented charging stations from functioning, the car held the road with ease. It is spacious and easily accommodates car seats for children. The car is quiet. The sound system is superior to anything I have driven in the past. The infotainment center is less than intuitive (for me), but I enjoy the learning curve to become more proficient in using it. The safety features are impressive and proved persuasive to me. Indeed, they convinced me to buy the car. The installation of a home charger was another adventure. Honda tried diligently, though unsuccessfully, to convince me that I should use them as a conduit to an electrician. I have worked with an electrician for years and I had decided a priori that I was going to collaborate with him on the installation project. The range, purported to be 280 miles on a full charge, is mythic - unless one is only driving downhill. Rural Vermont is not proliferated with fast charging stations, and therefore, just to charge the car required driving > 30 miles. I decided to lease the vehicle - a first for me - for several reasons, first and foremost because electric cars constitute a particularly volatile market, and I reasoned that it is possible that three years from now, electric vehicles may have made great strides, and rather than be saddled with a car that is considered obsolete, I would be able to hand in the ridiculously expensive keys and make a different choice moving forward. In the meantime, I hope to learn more about the car as a drive it believing that I am moving slowly into the 21st century.

Extremely Disappointed with the 2024 Honda Prologu

I purchased the 2024 Honda Prologue with high expectations for a reliable and safe vehicle, but my experience has been extremely disappointing. I've encountered several major issues, and while some have been addressed, the overall experience has been frustrating. Heating Issue - Fixed After 46 Days: The heater initially failed to blow warm air, making driving in cold weather unbearable. Although this issue was eventually resolved, it took 46 days for Honda to fix it. While they provided a loaner car, this was a major inconvenience, especially considering I hadn’t even had the car for 30 days before the issue arose. Cell Phone Charging Station Doesn't Work: The built-in charging station has been non-functional since I purchased the car. Despite trying to troubleshoot and ensure everything was correctly set up, the charging station still fails to charge my phone, making this a major inconvenience. Extremely Dangerous Braking Issue: One of the more serious concerns is the car's unpredictable braking behavior. When backing out of the driveway, the car suddenly slams on the brakes multiple times with a notification reading "Auto Braking System Active." You have to hit the brakes to release the locked brakes. This is not only annoying but dangerous—especially with my child in the car. This issue could easily lead to a serious accident if it happens at the wrong time, and it raises serious safety concerns about the vehicle’s reliability. The dealership told me that this is normal behavior and it's in the user manual and cannot be turned off. I did locate a setting and tried turning it off, but the setting seems to reset every time I start the car. I have never driven a car that cannot back out of a driveway without interruption. Transmission Shifting into Neutral - A Major Safety Risk: The most concerning issue is the car’s transmission unexpectedly shifting into neutral while driving. This makes the car impossible to accelerate until I manually shift it back into drive. Again, this is a serious safety hazard—especially when driving on busy roads or highways. I’ve never felt more unsafe in a vehicle, and this problem has not been resolved. I reached out to the dealership but despite their attempts to resolve the issues, these critical safety problems remain. The ongoing disruptions and safety risks have made this car completely unreliable, and I would NOT recommend the 2024 Honda Prologue to anyone—especially those with young children. I am hoping that Honda takes these serious concerns to heart, but as of now, I deeply regret purchasing this vehicle. I have filed for lemon law at this point.

2024 Honda Prologue Features

Some features in my opinion supposedly have to have the universal remote in the easily accessible place within the car not on the info system. Setting ACC is harder to set not like the Honda accord's.

Love the handling, super cushy interior, seat warmers all that jazz. Cameras and pretty damn handy , gonna have a hard time wrecking it. Took I minute to get used to the engine breaking but love it now. Got the Elite mostly for the leather seats, has a bunch of other features I could care less about.

OK I guess I'll start with the positives because it's a shorter list. This thing is fun to drive. I don't know if it's the one pedal driving or it's just a nice ride but I really like the ride in this vehicle. Charging is kind of a pain. Obviously it depends on how much you drive whether you have a 220 charger at your house and how far it is from the fast charger. A lot of people say, don't get one without the 220 charger at your house, however, getting away for 45 minutes a week and chilling out by myself is kind of nice. So, here are the real problems. I would say it around 5000 miles I started getting a clicking noise when I made a right turn. I told the dealer about it when I went in to get the tires rotated and they said they would look into it fast forward to the next tire rotation and they said it was a known issue and they didn't have a fix for it yet. After about four months, I started getting a warning that said the charge door was open. So I opened it and re-closed it just to make sure it wasn't a glitch, but it is consistently giving me this error with it being closed. This will notify you as you're driving fairly regularly and it is very annoying. I am now getting an error that says service high voltage charging system. Sometimes these errors will pop up back to back and that is very annoying. I have also had it not charge at the charging station, it would start to charge and then about 10 minutes later, it would say cannot charge there may be an issue with the charge station or cord. Personally, I believe it's a problem with the car not the charging station. I am so ready to get out of this I know it's only a three year lease but with this many problems and six months and 10,000 miles I don't imagine it's gonna get better with use. Honda said they ordered the part that they believe is needed to fix the charging door but I don't think they have a fix for the other stuff yet. I've already taken it to the dealership twice which requires me to take a day off work so it looks like all of my vacation time is gonna be spent dealing with this car. I hope they have a buyback and I can get out of it before the three-year lease. I understand that a lot of this is made by GM but I bought a Honda not a GM if I have to ride this lease out and hope that the prologue doesn't leave me stranded I don't think I'll be getting another Honda for a while.

Smooth, quiet. Feels very “normal”. Horrible rearward visibility though. Like the 360 cameras.

It is really great in all its details. My only point was that I prefer bigger subs.
