Used 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 9A) Consumer Reviews
Watch what you're buying
Watch if the alignment of the door. My odyssey has passenger side door mis-aligned. Ask the salesman if the gas meter has correct reading.

FEEL CHEATED
No compass. Really! We wrote a check for more than $41,000 to own a 2018 Odyssey minivan that Honda purposely put on the market with no compass, a simple tool standard in every decent vehicle since about the dawn of internal combustion. Shame on them. We wouldn't have bought this van if we had known it didn't have a compass. Some people writing online say Honda is manipulative, trying to force people to pay thousands more for the most expensive trims to get a simple, cheap feature found on every car but low-end fleet vehicles. Honda may be manipulative, or have no regard for customers, or just plain stupid. The people at my Honda dealership were as shocked as me at the absence of a compass. I would trade the moon roof, which I'll probably never open, or leather seats for a compass. I really wanted to feel good about owning a new minivan with many electronic and safety features, but now I simply seen a large gray machine in the garage with no compass. I'm sure Honda could retrofit this minivan to include a compass if they cared. In the meantime I'll use my old Boy Scout compass and wish I had bought a Toyota.

Far and Away the Worst Car I Have Ever Owned
I've had the Odyssey for 4 months now and have driven it 14,000+ miles. First the positives: great on the highway, engine is smooth, transmission is mostly smooth (occasional hiccup here and there), and Honda Sensing seems to work fairly well. The Lane Keeping Assist ping pongs and isn't always reliable...not a big deal because you should be driving your car. Now the negatives: The infotainment is just horrible. If you're on your phone when you get in the bluetooth will connect, but it mutes you and the person you're talking to. There is no way out of this. If you plug your phone into the USB first it sometimes mitigates this, but not always. Also sometimes the infotainment shows volume and nothing comes out of the speakers no matter what you do. The only fix seems to be to turn off the car and get out so it resets. Also the interface is terrible and doesn't work well with the display in the gauge cluster. Like they were designed by two different teams. Sometimes the screen is just black and will not come on at all and I have to turn the car off to again reset it. It plain sucks. The car beeps constantly at everything you do, and it gets really old really quickly. Walking away after parking, the self locking rarely works so it beeps really fast and loud about 6 times to remind you of your poor decision to purchase the Odyssey. The doors are another hassle, they only work if the car is happy about other things being in the right place. I've had people trapped in the middle row because the sliders won't open until I open the driver's door. What?!? The rear door is more of the same, why can't I decide how I open my doors? The interior is awful. Tons of hard plastics that are misaligned. Not even ok in a car costing half as much. Molded stitching on the door panel, couldn't they use a soft vinyl or fabric at this price point? There isn't any rubber in the cupholders so everything rattles. ...and the engine is quiet and smooth, but Honda really can't use a timing chain on their V6's? It's 2019, get with the program. My fourth Honda and definitely my last. So disappointed I bought this vehicle. Update: Traded it in. Dealerships said my issues are a known problem and they couldn’t fix them. Arrogant manager also said it wasn’t their problem, it was a Honda problem. They also said they were doing me a favor by taking that lemon in on trade because they couldn’t sell it. Awful dealership and ownership experience. Stay very far away. Update: Still the worst car I’ve ever owned, reduced my rating to one star from two.

Very good van. Great on long trips
Have owned a new 2018 EX-L for over six years. Very quiet interior. No compass at all. Major mistake by Honda. With 9 gears it shifts a lot and I'm still not use to that. Adaptive cruise control is a nice feature. Keeps you up to your selected speed and you never have to tap the brake. The steering wheel vibration on the lane departure takes some getting used to, but a very nice safety feature. A very solid van with a great ride. And my wife loves it so all is good. Now that we have owned the van for a few years I can add a few comments. RPM's rev high when shifting in first and second gear. downshifting on lower gears is not good. On cold days in Michigan, there seems to be cold air coming in from somewhere even with the heater on?? Cruise control just shut down and the radio by itself and neither would come back until I stopped and turned engine off and on. If there is an ice or snow build up on front of car, the radar cannot work properly so it shuts down some operator assisted features. Transmission still rough shifts at lower speeds both up and down. The 9 speed is just a mistake by Honda. The unofficial word from the service manager is its just not a good transmission. My wife always says the car shifts with a jerk both up and downshifting in lower gears.. Still a great highway car. Am on my 3rd battery for the car. Honda batteries do not last maybe a little over 3 years.
