I bought my '17 Accord Hybrid Touring, Blue Sky, on December 30, 2016. This is my 5th Accord in a row and 3rd new one in a row. Performance and comfort have been very good, but I have had persistent and recurring problems with the infotainment system since I bought the vehicle. Today's List, about half way through a 140 mile trip: Voice Recognition failed to work properly 4 times - When I asked it to call my wife, it gave 3 names of people that were nothing like my wife's; twice, after I asked voice command to call a number on my contact list, it dialed an 800 number; 5 times, when I used Voice Command and spoke a phone call request, it responded that no voice command was heard. Radio: Touch screen for volume control is inconsistent. GPS is a nightmare: It is very difficult to get details of a route, including how far it is to the next route or when the next turn is and doesn't give a tone when it is time to make these turns: also, you cannot give route changes while the car is in motion, even if given by the passenger, the car has to come to a complete stop; GPS does not update traffic conditions if there is trouble ahead or suggest alternate routes; it is very difficult to navigate between AM, FM, and Sirius XM. As you can see, I have had persistent and recurring problems with the infotainment system. They are a distraction to me while I am driving and I consider it unsafe when they persist. I purchased this vehicle because I will be traveling 520 miles 3 times a month for 8 months for medical treatments, and I wanted a reliable, pleasurable car. These distractions have seriously contributed to my dissatisfaction...Here are my experiences with trying to have this situation rectified: 4 visits to dealer where I purchased the car, 3 with 2 different salesmen and 1 with the service manager; Several phone calls with the sales and service departments; American Honda which, after having left both a voice mail and an email, took almost a week and a half to respond, only to kick me back to the dealer, where I have gone through more rounds of visits and phone calls; and then this past week, I spoke with the sales manager twice, 3 days apart, requesting that someone at the regional or national level call me about my concerns; both times he said he would call back, but he did not. Today, Tuesday, I spoke at length with the sales manager and once again expressed my concerns, since I had not heard back from him in response to my 2 calls from last week. He spent a short amount of time trying to convince me to return to the dealership once again to see if they could rectify theses problems. I stopped him after a short time and I restated that I was no longer interested in his offers. I have now made a demand that may be unreasonable, but nonetheless, I will not waver on. I am not going to divulge the name of the dealer at this time but once I have been provided a solution to this problem by the dealer or American Honda, I will share it with you.

Update 2: A year later -- I'm still very happy. MPG is a bit lower that EPA estimate -- somewhere around 44.5, maybe 45 on average. Of course, it could be my driving style and/or types of trips I make. Update: six months later I'm still very happy with the car. After the first month, I love the car. It is a family sedan, so don't expect superior sporty driving, but it is responsive, comfortable, sufficiently powerful, extremely fuel efficient. The trunk is on a small side if you compare to conventional cars, but on a large side if you compared to hybrid sedans.

2017 Accord Hybrid Touring just misses. Its confusing at first, but doesn't take long to get it under control. Comfort is adequate but it is sportier handling and pavement irregularities are noticed - drives superb otherwise, even fun. My biggest complaint is the fixed rear seat. The different drive modes are fun to play with at times, Sport is definitely sporty, and Econ mode is best for winter. Drives like a regular car if you forget about it. I'm averaging 45mpg mixed driving per tank, but have seen 60 around town. Everyone that gets in it for the first time is impressed, which for a Honda, is saying something. Fit and finish are what you should expect for near 40k. Sweet car, not perfect, but after 23,000 miles, no big regrets, zero mechanical issues (except the back seat doesn't fold down- a real hindrance at times.

We bought this car used with 20,000 miles on it, it seemed new, and we got an extended warranty. We wanted a 2017 because it had a bigger gas tank than the 2018, and so the range would be longer. And it is, but in town mostly. If we stay in town, we can get consistently over 46mpg, and one tank was 49 mpg. But on the road it is more like the mid to high 30s. We tend to drive a few mph over the speed limit, and have frequent hills to climb here in Coastal California, so that may hurt us. We loved our 2015 Accord EX-L, and the main difference between this car and that one is the excellent hybrid system, so we're even more delighted now. Update: after 20,000 miles of our own driving, we're happy to say that all the above is still true but with a big improvement. We've averaged in the low to mid 40mpg on the highway, instead of the high 30s we said above. So we've averaged 44 to 47mpg overall. Nice! Update 2: Now 40,000 of our own driving, 60,000 overall, and still very happy. No problems, or repairs, just smooth and reliable driving. Just finished our best mileage tank of gas, 730 miles! And 52mpg. Admittedly optimal conditions, average mpg still in the mid 40s.

Don't Go Away

If you leave town, the 12V battery will die while you are away and when you start the car, all lights are flashing and the horn starts beeping continuously. Was definitely not prepared for this. The Service Department will come out and charge your battery, but then advise you a trickle charger is needed ($200) plus installation, and you should plug the car in when you are away. They indicated this was a common problem when the car is not continuously driven. Nowhere in their materials is this mentioned, nor do they know how long you can be away without this occurring. This also causes the battery to wear down faster needing replacement sooner, one more additional expense. If I'd wanted a plug in, I would have gone electric. Drove a Prius for five years and never once had it serviced, plus the mileage was considerably better. Big mistake making a switch. Now we're leaving town again - who knows what to expect. Phase 2. Returned from second trip and same problem again. Car was towed to dealer and the battery was supposedly ok. Only remedy was plug in battery monitor which would make resale quite difficult. Try explaining this to a prospective buyer. Now only remedy is a lemon law lawyer. Don’t buy this car if you travel!
