Used 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Wife only saw car after purchase & she loves it!
We have owned many types of cars over the years from VW, Mazda, Suzuki, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Chrysler, Dodge, & Porsche (and two other Honda's) and this 2017 Honda Accord EX-L Hybrid is one of the best. The exterior & interior are stylish and the fit and finish is impressive. The leather seats are comfortable and very easy to adjust and we use the two pre-set positions. While the front seats are roomy the rear seats are quite large for a mid size car. Visibility is excellent all around. The trunk is still large enough even with the battery. The car is well built and handles the road well. Since we keep our car purchases for a long time the hybrid low fuel use was an important point. But, the hybrid engine system still has plenty of power to merge, climb hills and generally moves the car quickly with great acceleration. I have to get used to how quiet the car is while in Electric Vehicle mode and twice I have forgotten to turn it off after parking! When starting the car (especially noticeable in the garage) it makes this cool Star Trek like sound while in the electric mode. The Honda Sensing safety system works well but needs a few technology improvements, which will probably occur as the technology evolves. I already found these features to be a great safety help. The info/entertainment system could be easier to use and I understand the new 2018 model has been improved. The wife loathes car dealers so I do the shopping and test driving. I told her she needed to drive the new car and she said "if you like it them I will". Lol - I brought it home and she loves the car. The folks at Smail Honda in Greensburg, PA were extremely helpful and I got an excellent price at almost $7,000 off sticker. We are two drivers with three cars (the Porsche will go into storage for the winter soon) so we have only put on 600 miles since purchase one month ago but so far it's a great car. Update - care is now three years old and has 26,000 miles on it. Absolutely no problems with the car. Very comfortable for both around town driving and multi- state trips. Update- now we have had the car 3 years and 7 months but with only 31,000 miles on it. The miles have been reduced due to the pandemic, but we did take it to Florida (from PA) in February and it drove extremely well. Absolutely no problems with this car. Update - It is now November '22 and after 5 years and 44,000 miles we have had no problems with this car. I get the oil changed each year when state inspected & last year I purchased a new set of tires because the original set did not pass inspection. I did receive a small refund from Michelin because the tires wore out early. Probably due to the poor roads and hills here in western PA. We also get about 40 MPG (not what I expected) - probably again due to the hills etc.... I would purchase this car again. Update (November 2023), The car is now 6 years and one month old (purchased October 2017) it only has 51,500 miles because we are both now retired and it sits in the garage some days. Still looks good and rides/drive great. We will keep it. It is now November 2024 and the car only has 57,000 miles on it and drives like new! It has the original battery (starts the car) but I will change it soon. Starts well for a 7 year battery, but do not want to test fate !! Maybe because it is parked in the garage?

Excellent Car, Somewhat Underrated - Few Drawbacks
Having had this car for almost 3 1/2 years, and driven it almost 60,000 miles, I think I'm pretty qualified to give the '17 Accord Hybrid Ex-l a decent review. First off, it's been very reliable, with no downtime in the shop for other than regular maintenance. Mileage has been a little under 40 mpg, and I drive generally faster than average. The car still looks attractive, and I generally enjoy driving the car. It's fun on twisting roads with the instant torque from the hybrid, and it's quick, not super fast, but probably somewhat under 7 seconds 0-60. Two main downsides are the trunk, which is smaller than the standard Accord, but not too small. The 2nd issue is the entertainment system. It works decently, but overall, it's not really intuitive but once you're used to it, it's ok. The sound system on the ex-l is good. Would I buy it again? I don't know. I like the torque and quickness, but I would like something either a little more luxurious like the Lexus Es hybrid or sporty, like the BMW 3 or comparable, which were some of the cars I looked at prior to purchasing the Accord. Maybe full electric on the next go-round.

Great car, great mileage.
ONE YEAR UPDATE: Still love the car. 45MPG for 13K miles since I bought it. Highway is still around 38-40, colder temps make the mileage decrease as the motor has to run for heat. But the car is still amazing. Two screens provide all the data you need or can imagine. This model is selling for at least 5K more than I paid due to high gas prices, with higher miles on them. Car rides well at all speeds. Travels well on the highway and is quiet at all speeds especially when in EV mode. No spare. but use the dead space for plugging kit, tools and Ryobi portable air compressor. Have not had to use them. Battery died at 31K miles, AAA replaced it for 140 bucks, delivered and installed. Honda battery good for about 5 years, plan for it. No other issues. Would certainly buy it again. UPDATE: Owned the car for about 6 months now. Averaging 44 MPG since the purchase, which includes several trips to NC all highway, at about 79 MPH. At expressway speeds, we get about 41MPG, but beats anything else I ever owned. Around town still have trips 50-60 MPG, depending on traffic and how I drive. Did not buy a spare as the rim fit issues for wheels with generators. Use the spare tire area to carry compressor and tool kit. Car travels well. The noise comments from previous reviews are true, but the noise is not excessive and eventually you get used to the quiet of the electric mode. With gas prices now rising under Biden, this was a GREAT purchase. The same car is selling now for 2-5K above my purchase price. Trunk space is still smaller than I would like, wish the rear seat had an opening for longer items. Would certainly buy this car again, we take it for all daily commutes and errands. Still love the two screens and they do not stick up in my field of view like many of the single screen dash designs out now. Buy it, you will love it!! Totaled my 2013 Accord EXL. Safety stuff worked as advertised, hence we decided to shop for another Accord. Stumbled over a 2017 Hybrid Touring traded at the local Lexus dealer. Given the recent increase in gas prices and the "war on oil" made me consider it, although I have always been leary of hybrid technology. Love the car. Read all reviews before we purchased. Agree with the weird lane control, not nearly as effective as our Outback with eyesight. Turned it off. Trunk is small compared to my 2013, but there are two cubbies underneath and a small one on top the batteries (15lb limit) No spare tire bugs me, carry a plug kit and ryobi compressor as well as the one provided. A blowout is a show stopper, so may opt for a donut spare. Technology is great and having owned a 2013 EXL, I love the double screens. Don't miss the volume know, always used the steering wheel controls. Mileage for the previous owner over 2000miles was 49mpg. We are getting the same over my first half tank. Car rides well as expected. Engine is a bit noisy, but if you brake early and maintain it, the regeneration keeps the battery up. Good power and as quick as my 2013. Folded the seat I'm my 2013 twice in the years I owned it. Missing this option was no big deal. Same color as my 2013, pearl white. Black interior. Shopping used, selection is limited, but white was fine. Overall really impressed. Will add IWS warranty in May when the factory expires. Technology can be expensive to repair. Wish it had the 19 inch rims, but overall very pleased with the Accord Hybrid! Great car! Drove the 2017 Camry, it was not even close in quality, ride or mpg.

We traded it after 9 months!
Honestly, loved the car the day we bought it. Just couldn't take it anymore and got rid of it after 9 months. The good: The seats were comfortable, the lots of bells and whistles, good visibility while driving, love the lane assist and smart cruise control. The bad: gas mileage truly stunk we averaged 36.9 miles to the gallon over 19,300 miles: WAY below the advertised mileage, the trunk space is non-existent, one suitcase and one overnight bag is it, we had two warranty related issues where the back deck that holds the speakers had to be removed because it rattled like crazy and the airbag had to be removed and repacked because of an annoying rattle inside of it, the leather seats were looking terrible after 9 months, the radio and Apple Car play glitched out often, no dial on the volume was a real pain, and the engine was really loud when idling.

My least favorite Honda to date
I went for the Accord Hybrid because I thought it looked a little snazzier and handled sportier than the conventional 4-cyl sedan. Not a burner like my old 6-cyl coupe, but fun to drive and who could argue with 49 mpg, even with cheap gas. I liked the updated electronics, with Apple Play eliminating the need for nav., the backup camera is brighter, and the assisted cruise control and lane departure prevention seemed like a good idea. After 5 months of ownership, however, I'm pretty thoroughly disappointed. The biggest letdown is the gas mileage, which despite its 49 mpg rating, averages closer to 35. The best I've ever managed, with every fuel conservation tool in use, was about 39. I understand fuel economy is always overstated, but by 28 percent?! Shame on you Edmunds, for letting Honda get away with it. In other news, the entertainment touchscreen is a hot mess. The menu hierarchies aren't intuitive and the virtual buttons are hard to hit. The volume control is either a touchy thing or the steering wheel, and there's no off switch! You can't turn off the radio. The assisted cruise control slows down so much and so far back that cars behind you start sounding horns for you to get out of the way. The lane assist and other safety features just make driving more complicated and less fun. To top it all off, the interior trim is shiny, high-gloss metal, which catches every ray of sunlight and blasts it into the driver's eyes. Even the fake would in the console is glossy and glarey--and that's with tinted windows. As for the performance, the car is fairly responsive unless you're looking for hard acceleration for passing or merging from a speed of 30-69 mph. In that range, you have to punch it into sport mode, which brings the gas engine to life with a disconcerting belch and whiny roar. The handling is extremely light when accelerating, although I'm starting to get used to that. So, in summary, I hate the car, right? Well, not exactly. It is a Honda and I like Hondas because they seem to fit me well. This one does too, even though I hit my head getting into it. It feels pretty solid and it was marked down a lot--probably due to everything I've written so far. The next generation should be amazing if they learn from all the shortcomings in this one. What are the chances?
